Price Protection - New Casino Deal

Hello Everyone!

Long time lurker, first time poster :)

I am booked with the Glory for Feb 16 2019 for a 12 day journeys cruise. I booked this cruise within 2 weeks of my last cruise, and I don't recall the name of the 'deal'. I think it was Past Guest, which I believe is also the Early Saver...? I have $50 OBC with this rate. The notes on my booking email is 1 and 2.

I got a Casino Deal email today, that gives me 50 OBC...but when I run through a mock booking, this deal is 120 cheaper than what I paid; however, it does not list the $50 Casino Credit in the deal description. It says:

  • Exclusive Casino Offer
  • Choose your room location
  • Reserve your cruise for $99 per person
  • Offer ends October 18, 2018
  • Great Vacation Guarantee

I have looked at the Price Protection form and the 'Terms and Conditions' make me a bit leery: By selecting yes, guest assumes all terms and conditions of the new promotion and may forfeit any or all features associated with the original fare, such as cabin assignment, onboard credit, an upgrade, special deposit and payment terms, etc.

I do not want to lose the cabin location that I have chosen.

My questions are:

1) Am I eligible for Price Protection?

2) Is the $50 Casino Credit supposed to show up in the 'booking' before confirming?

3) Is it better to discuss with Customer Service, vs filling out the form? If I am missing something, would they mention that in the call (ie 'Welp, you get the room we give you if you want the lower price'), or no?

Thanks for everyone's help!

1) Am I eligible for Price Protection?

Sorry, I guess this question wasn't clear. I wasn't looking for the 'new deal' to be price protected, I was wondering about my current booking.

I cannot seem to tell from my original booking email if it was booked under ES or Past Guest.

Dear Electricx,

IMHO your best way is to call your Travel Agent/Travel Agency you have boked with.

They as Professionals do this all the time in finding out what clients (Youall) ask them.

If you call the Cruise Line I wager if you speak to nine people eight will have a different answer..

I just called Carnival, and it was booked on a early saver. So I would get 119 and some change, and the 50 casino cash. They could keep me in the same room, but I would no longer be under an 'early saver' and could not request OBC for additional price drops.

Is there a reason not to do this? I don't expect the price to drop more than it has....as I have never seen the price go down on any of my bookings before.

I appreciate everyone's time!

You want to switch to a casino rate and are asking others if you should bet on odd or even?

Once early saver always early saver---I always book early saver then price match to the casino offer, I was still considered early saver and continued to get price drops. Casino offers are usually the lowest offers. I'm sure there are exceptions. I think you would lose your initial OBC that you got for booking within 2 weeks though. You will have to go to the casino cashier and get your $50 in casino cash there.

Thanks for this. I did some digging and found what I booked under, which was the 'Welcome Home' Promo, which includes Price Protection.

In the Early Saver terms it says: Early Saver price protection does not apply to group rates, membership programs, charters, select promotional fares, travel agent rebates, or other travel agent promotions not offered by Carnival to the general public. When re-pricing to a new promotion, guest assumes all terms and conditions of the new promotion and may forfeit any or all features associated with the original fare, such as cabin assignment, onboard credit, an upgrade, special deposit and payment terms, etc.

Does this mean I do or do not forfeit the price protection? I have no problem calling again, but as another poster mentioned, I'll end up with 9 different answers lol. My only concern at this point is losing the cabin I have chosen. I've had 4 different upsell offers for it in 6 months (not good upsell offers lol)...so I don't want to lose it with messing with the booking.

I also received a Casino Rate on a cruise we wanted to take, We booked the cruise at early saver rate, and then used the Casino rate as a price match. I explained to the Carnival agent that this was what we wanted to do, and he said it couldn't. I asked him to check with a manager, he did and said he didn't know that could be done, but now he did. We were prepared to just call back and speak to another agent until we got the answer we were looking for, but that was no necessary. We also had a cruise booked which was not early saver rate, but then got another casino offer. We cancelled the cruise and re booked at early savor rate and kept the same room. We lost the $100 deposit but picked up $100 OBC with the casino rate which we also saved money on. We are not big gamblers that get the really great (free) cruises, but we do get some deals. We will always book early saver to be able to add any Casino rate the could apply to our booking. Hope this helps.

Update:

So after almost an hour on the phone with Carnival...

I called Global sales, who transferred me somewhere else, who then transferred me to the casino people.

In the end, I lost the 50 OBC for booking the 'Welcome Home' Promo. However, I received 120 OBC for the price difference between what I booked, and what the Casino Deal was. The Casino Rep also told me that my husband and I were both eligible for $50 in casino cash each....and we kept the same room, and still have the early saver price protection.

So, in the end we received $170! I have never used the price protection before, so I really appreciate everyone helping me muddle my way through it!

Thanks again :)

The casino bookings are limited in both the # of bookings and the # of each cabin category within that total allotment. Sometimes you can lose an original cabin, or be denied the casino fare due to the cabin type if you insist on retaining say, a spa balcony on the Horizon.

The OP did the right thing by calling Carnival and getting a satisfactory answer. The suggestion to call several times, as well as to call different answer desks, is also welcome, since we all know how varied the answers we get can be.

Hi there, a few of you mentioned that if you get $50 casino credit, you pick it up at the cashier. Is there anywhere in any of the documents where this is listed for proof? Just in case they we don't have any

Thanks

I have never seen it listed on my cruise documents, but I have printed out emails that say I will get it. Take them with you on the cruise just in case. I have never had a problem or had to prove it to the casino cage to get my chips/cash.
