Rare silentbob007 Posted September 15, 2009 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2009 Hi everyone, I've posted this a few other places as I keep forgetting there's a "saving money" section on this board. :) Anyway, I've been invited the last couple of years to give travel talks to student organizations at my University. I've put together this 11-page guide to trying to save money on conference travel. While it doesn't talk about cruises specifically, it offers a few websites and information about finding deals with ground transportation, airfare, hotels, etc. I hope someone can find it useful. http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~cmong/trip/conference_travel.pdf

MrsPete Posted September 15, 2009 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2009 Very nice write-up! I'd like to think I'm pretty good at finding travel bargains, and you have most of my secrets wrapped up neatly in one document!
travelingfools Posted September 15, 2009 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2009 Bob, That's great. Many of my favorites too. I would have loved this information when we first started traveling. It would have been much easier on us rather than learning as you went along. It's a great way to start Students out on their traveling adventures. Thanks! Rare silentbob007 Posted September 16, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted September 16, 2009 The only problem is ... they hear about my travel expenses and all of my cruises so everyone comes to me to make sure they are getting the best deal ... perhaps I'll have to start charging a commission. ;)

Rare silentbob007 Posted September 23, 2009 Author #9 Share Posted September 23, 2009 (edited) I'm going to see if I can scrape together some free time to make a cruise-specific version as the response seems to be pretty decent on this one. jnsparky Posted September 23, 2009 #10 Share Posted September 23, 2009 Carnival said that they are continuing to look at Fuel Surcharges in the Conference call yesterday....only one place guaranteeing to pay fuel surcharges for you if the cruise lines reinstate them for cruises all the way out through 2011 - - Google 'Fuel Surcharge Guarantee' - -
