Laundry room - Is there a way to "get in line" to use washer/dryer

I had a interesting encounter on the Ruby a couple of weeks ago. I was next in line for a washer, one of them finished, and no one had been in the laundry room except for a lady that had the other machine. After a few minutes, I moved the load to the dryer, PUT IN MY MONEY, and started it. I left a note that the fellow traveler could put $1.50 in my laundry bag if they chose, and returned to the room (That defines a run-on sentence). When I got back from our cabin, the lady chewed me out like I had stolen her unmentionables rather than moving them to the dryer.

I heard that once someone took out the clothes that had sat for about 20 minutes and put them on top of a dryer. The woman finally returned got mad at the guy who moved them and slapped him. They stared pushing and screaming. Security was called and escorted them to their cabins. They we told not to come out until dinner. They came out right after security left. Got into in again. Next morning they were seen on the dock with all their luggage.

Had that been me, I would have thanked you for your thoughtfulness and paid you back the $1.50, however I would have cringed on the inside because I have a lot of things that I really can't stand to be dried in the dryer.

Maybe she didn't want things dried, but didn't have enough class to realize you were only trying to be kind.

Washer & dryers on the ships wehave been on were each a $1 per load. They took US quarters. You could get quarters from the Purser's desk.

They have those new purex laundry sheets that are great. Thye are detergent, softner and static all in a sheet. Very lightweight and would be easy to pack.

Do they sell those in all the supermarkets in America. We will be doing some shopping in fort Lauderdale before our cruise. Is there a place in Sawgrass Mills to buy them? We will be spending the day there the day before we leave......

WOW! Thank you all so much for the info! Aloha and Mahalo to all! Any of you been on the Golden since it came out of dry dock? I hear it's just wonderful!

Since so many of you seem to know Princess quite well, do any of you know if there are lounge chairs....like poolside loungers on the Caribe Deck BA catagory rooms, I'm in C514 and wonder if the balcony is large enough for one. The only reason I cruise is for the time on the balcony in a deck chair!;)

I took the Purex Laundry sheets and they are great and easy to pack. You should be able to find in grocery stores or discount stores.

They should have them in the Supermarkets. I sent some to my daughter who is in college in Denmark and she loves them.

Thank you, EXCELLENT tip, just ran to the mkt. and got them. They come in 3 "flavors".....tropical, pure, and spring. Well, I couldn't resist the tropical since we are headed for the Islands.......what a great thing to be able to carry laundry detergent, softener, and cling free all in a tiny sheet in a zip lock!

Thanks again.

What???

Fill me in Colo Cruiser, does your WHAT???? mean that you always have a lounge chair? On all the cruises I've been on, if there hasn't been one on the balcony when we get to our cabin, we ask the steward to see if one is available (nice tip to him $ ) and it always happens by the time we return. Have you been in a BA catagory on the Golden, I thought I saw your name on the current Hawaii cruise? Thanks in advance. Most of our cruises have been with Celebrity, RCL, and other lines, we're just not sure how big this balcony might be.

We've found the best time to do laundry is mid-afternoon on sea days,

believe it or not. Also, the first day right after getting into your cabin

is good. In our case, we were traveling from someplace else and some

of our clothes were already dirty upon embarkation, so day one is ideal.

LOL

What we always do is bring Post-it notes and put the time that we

put the laundry in with the expected finish time, our cabin number and

name. that way it makes the laundry load more personal to us and

people are less likely to mess with it IMHO ---

We have also been annoyed with those who wash their clothes and do not return

to put them in the dryer, because that has been problematic sometimes

when we would like to commence washing, but we've never removed

other peoples' laundry. We just hop from floor to floor until we

find availability.

Formal night is also a great time to do laundry if you don't partake of

the formal nights.
