Laundry room - Is there a way to "get in line" to use washer/dryer

LMAO! To make it worse, I even gave them my left over detergent that I obviously wasn't going to get to finish using. My DH had a few choice words for me and couldn't believe I let them bully me like they did.

If I was in that situation and thinking quickly, I might have said, "oh, the person who was using that machine gave me money for the dryer and asked if I would switch their stuff over for them, and then I can use that washer." The only way they would know it's not true is if they see you wearing the same clothes later on in the cruise.:)

Had that been me, I would have thanked you for your thoughtfulness and paid you back the $1.50, however I would have cringed on the inside because I have a lot of things that I really can't stand to be dried in the dryer.

Maybe she didn't want things dried, but didn't have enough class to realize you were only trying to be kind.

Not every thing I have gets put in the dryer (how many men know not to put bras or bathing suits in the dryer?).

On our last cruise, hubby and I were putting our load in the washer. I must have stepped out for a moment or went to talk with our daughter in the hallway as when I came back, my hubby was loading in some detergent into the washer that someone gave him. He had forgotten that one member of our family is allergic to regular detergent (I had packed enough allergen-free detergent for our cruise) and it was too late to remove the detergent by the time I found out. Daughter got skin rash from her washed clothing (I didn't say "I told you so"). When we got home from our cruise, I put all of her clothes from the suitcase, dirty or not, into the washer to redo with our detergent. Next cruise, I'll just remind hubby while walking to the laundry room.

WOW! Thank you all so much for the info! Aloha and Mahalo to all! Any of you been on the Golden since it came out of dry dock? I hear it's just wonderful!

Since so many of you seem to know Princess quite well, do any of you know if there are lounge chairs....like poolside loungers on the Caribe Deck BA catagory rooms, I'm in C514 and wonder if the balcony is large enough for one. The only reason I cruise is for the time on the balcony in a deck chair!;)

You may want to be prepared for cool weather the first couple of days on your cruise. It may only get into the 60s until you get closer to Hawaii. Per the weather cast, tomorrow (Sunday) isn't going to be warm at all in San Pedro and once you are out on the Pacific, it will be cool too.

We are planning on packing light for our 7 night cruise and using the laundry facilities on board which are very close to our cabin. From previous posts, the best time to do this is during port days which is great since there is a couple of ports we plan on just staying on board and enjoying the ship.

Is there a way to get in line to use the washer/dryer if they are being used when you go to the laundry room or do you just have to keep checking back? Can we leave our laundry to create a line?

Thanks!!

Silly me, I have never seen a line in the laundry room. Even on the formal evening (early evening)going to freshen up my DH Shirt, no line. One man peeked in to use the Iron and I told him I was almost finished. I would say that most cruisers don't do a lot of laundry. Maybe those with children need to, but, 7 pairs of underwear don't take up too much room to pack.

We usually take longer cruises, and I always do some laundry. I have to use fragrance free detergent or I'd just send it out. On our TA after the 4th sea day the laundry room seemed busy all the time.

I really like the idea of the post-it notes with the time on them. I'll be putting them in my cruise box.

I heard that once someone took out the clothes that had sat for about 20 minutes and put them on top of a dryer. The woman finally returned got mad at the guy who moved them and slapped him. They stared pushing and screaming. Security was called and escorted them to their cabins. They we told not to come out until dinner. They came out right after security left. Got into in again. Next morning they were seen on the dock with all their luggage.

Go to your room, Charlie Brown!!! :D

Was that security, or the ship's "Mom"?

We have never had to wait for a washer but have had to wait for a dryer.

On our last (Carnival) cruise the washers and dryers were $3 each. I had two washers. Waited for the wash to get done to find one didn't cycle, just got wet. Grrrr....threw me off schedule, having to wait for it to wash again in another washer. Then I had time on my dryer and while I was putting clothes back in the cabin I told DH NOT to leave the laundry room, to keep my dryer. What does he do? Leaves and someone took my dryer with my time left. Grrrr...... I have no more quarters, money in the safe on a different floor. Grrrr.....

I have never had a problem doing the laundry on any of our Princess cruises. (I do the laundry, not DH!) Occasionally, the washers are taken so I just go to another laundry room or wait until later. I have met some nice ladies while waiting for my laundry to finish and everyone has always been very civil. I have yet to see any fighting or cross words exchanged.

I do laundry at least two times during a 7 day cruise as I can't stand salty, sandy beach clothes. Early morning and afternoons on port days are my favorite times. To all the new cruisers, the laundry rooms have big sinks that are great for washing out snorkeling gear and water shoes.

That's a great idea. Thank you for the suggestion.

There's not nearly enough space in the tiny cabin shower for both me and snorkel gear.

I checked Grand's deck plan and there's a self service laundromat conveniently nearby. :D
