The Dream is beautiful but avoid these rooms

Just back from 10/15 Dream Med cruise. The ship was beautiful and we enjoyed the food and the staff and the itinerary without complaints. Just a heads up to those of you picking a cabin or if you have a balcony guarantee. We had a balcony guarantee so were pleasantly surprised when we were given and "upgrade" to an 8E balcony on deck 9 Vista. It is just below the lido deck and our room 9354 was directly under the pizza bar which is by the pool and has tables and chairs that are frequented with people who get pizza or overflow from the buffet. This area is also a smoking area so unfortunately 24/7 we heard very loud screeching of chairs as people slid their chairs out then scooted themselves up to the table. I would guess the staff also used this as a break area in the middle of the night as the noise continued constantly. After 2 days my husband and I both agreed not to mention it again to keep ourselves out of a negative complaining mood. I would imagine the rooms directly opposite on the starboard side would be the same as the burger bar is there and they have the same table and chairs. Our neighbors went to Guest Relations to complain. If I had paid 8E price for that room I would not have been a happy camper. On the comment card at the end I gave my view that these rooms should come with a caveat explanation (like an obstructed view would) and recommended putting felt on the bottom of the chairs. Let's hope they do something. Otherwise the Dream is a real dream.

A lot of reviews say the one place NOT to be is right below the pool deck, because it isnt carpeted and the go and clean it about 3 am and shove the chairs around. Sounds like aft pool is the same deal as the main pool, a place to be avoided. Doesnt surprise me.

When that part of the ship was revealed there were many discussions about how noisy these rooms may be and if they should be avoided. I'm glad it didn't ruin your cruise and even though you received the room as an upgrade you are just as important as a booked passenger :)

We were on starboard side and had cabin 9343. I believe we also got an upgrade. We also heard scraping all day but fortunately, when we went to sleep almost never heard it. Next time, I will pay more attention to where the cabin is.

I think it's great the attitude you have deciding to not mention it again after day two and be positive.....Attitude can make or break one....so kudos to you!:D

My DS took a IS guarantee and ended up with the highest CAT inside cabin, 9437. When I looked almost all the cabins around him were open at that time. I think they know these cabins are going to give problems, but by up-grading hope not to have as many problems. Not going to tell him there might be a problem will see what he says in December.

Dh and I went on the carnival freedom in May for our

30th anniversary cruise and when we went back to our cabin after dinner on the first night we were Horrified when we entered our babin only to feel the rom shaking and the base thumping music blaring from below , long story short. our cabin was right above the casino where the band played every night, Complain? You better believe it because our only request when we booked was something quiet, , We were told the ship was booked so we were gonna get off the first port in San Jaun but Carnival ended up finding us an inside AND let us keep the balcony for during the day, not to mention alot of other perks that we didnt even ask for, They really went above and beyond

We booked 9472, port side aft cabin. Do you think the same will apply? I am a pretty heavy sleeper, but that aft cabin balcony is amazing....I guess there is always some give and take. I know the cabin size is more cramped because its sort of an oval room. Never did think about sliding chairs.

Our Rule:

Always, Always, Always select a cabin between decks of cabins, on the Dream that's Decks 7 & 8.:)

Never, Never, Never, book a GUARANTEE! You're GUARANTEED to be aggravated!

We are booked on the 2/27 Dream sailing on the Lido deck (10th deck) with cabins above and below us.:D

Oh no! And the sales guy at Carnival recommended this cabin to my (9472, L shaped cabin in the back) to my parents. Then my aunt and uncle are right across from them in 9475. I really hope they don't have any problems. It's 368 days away...thats a lot of days to worry :p

The Carnival reps want to get you to book the most expensive cabin possible.

Do you research ahead of time. Do NOT take their recommendations!

With so much info available online these days, there's really no reason to get "stuck" in a cabin that may have noise issues. That's one of the best fuctions of these boards - the sharing of this sort of information.

Of course, with a new ship, one can only "guess" at where the problems might lie, but under any part of the pool area or above clubs, etc., it would be expected that there could be noise.

I understand that and I normally give them the advice. I told them to try to get an aft and that they did. They just didn't think of looking what was above them. Live and learn. I'm sure it won't ruin their cruise because they will have an awesome balcony! Me on the other hand, I have a cove :D

Since it's a year away, why not have them change their cabin to Deck 7 or 8? I'm sure there are lots of available cabins at this early date.

where did you get the cool business card size counter

Not to Hijack the thread, but if you click on their count down clock it should take you to the site where they got it :p

And to stay on topic, thank you all for the information, my sister and I have a Gar. IS for Feb, and are going to take our chances. We will have audio books and head phones, in case of noisy nights, but I am sure we will be to tired to even have to worry about it, We are with a crazy CC Group and I know we will only be getting a couple hours a night with this gang.

Anyone want to come with us, there is still room, and good rates, and lots of fun to be had on the Dream :p

Seems like a lot of negative comments about the 9th floor on The Dream have been surfacing on CC.

We'll be in 2309-Cove balcony on 12/3, just to try one out. I don't think we'll have any noise, unless it is fish who have flipped themselves up on our balcony and want in!!!!

We have 9472 booked in March, with the inlaws across the hall in 9475. I will give you an update, in 5 months:)
