Too Warm Temps in Cabins

Has anyone other than me noticed that the temperatures in the cabins seems to be getting much warmer. Even though we turned the thermostat all the way down the cabin stays warm. We have thermometers on our travel clocks and many times the temps will not go below 75 degrees. I find this too warm expecially for sleeping. We have had to call someone to try to get the temps down on our last 5 cruises. This is done after keeping out curtains closed and the thermostat at the lowest setting. Many times nothing is done until my 3rd or 4th call. I'm starting to get a little frustrated. We have been in a balcony cabin every time and can not figure out if it is a bad design (warm air coming through the sliding glass doors) or another attempt by the cruise line to save money. This has happened to us on the Emerald, Grand and twice on the Crown.

I agree. I do not recall our trip on the Grand, but the last trip on the Crown I was complaining to my wife the entire time. Some of it had to do with the balcony door but there were days when I closed the curtains and left the cabin for severeal hours and it was still warm.

I hope this won't be the case on my sailing on the Crown in Dec. I like it cool when I sleep. Has anybody had ability to make room cool, esp at night ?

my wife and I were on the Emerald last week and woke up in a sweat at least twice. it was warm all over the ship. next time we'll be taking a small fan.

I thought the exact same thing when I read they woke up in a sweat. lol Those duvets can cause that for almost anyone.

 

Our last few cruises, we have found our staterooms to be on the cool side, and I like it very cold to sleep.

One thing that can come into play here is if you happen to have neighbors that sleep with their balcony doors open, it can effect how the AC works in the surrounding staterooms. There isn't much that Princess can do about this. I have noticed on our last cruise that the Patter asked passengers to please keep their balcony doors closed unless they were out enjoying their balcony as it does burdon the ships AC when a lot of doors are left open.

Every ship I have been on with Princess --it has been warm-8 in the last couple of years-all balconies. I put that in my feedback everytime. I do have a top sheet on my bed & the duvet on the floor. I think the Princess ships quite warm in many locations-bars/princess Theatre plus the Casino! Seems about 2/3am really gets stuffy in the cabins & stays that way until about 7 or so. We try to shut the balcony door quickly coming in/out during the day but we do not leave it open at night, at all. On the Island in February-I will have someone check to see what can be done for more cool air. Was glad to see I am not the only one that thinks the cabins are warm/ whole ship!

I totally agree. We have a hard time keeping our cabin cool enough. Closing the big, heavy curtains does help when the sun is shining on our side of the ship, but it's still not enough. We're used to having the A/C on all year-round at 72 degrees. The cabins are nowhere near that cool.

All of my other cruises in the past, we were able to keep the room cool regardless of curtians open or closed during the day. It seems that this complaint is with Princess only. This is unaceptable.

I have never found it too warm. There have been occasions when it is too darned cold though! Adjusting the thermostat seems to work well if it is done incrementally and not put to freezing cold to try to dramatically lower the temperature.

They could install an AC cutoff switch on the sliding doors to ease the burden on the system. If those who need to sleep with the door open, let them do it without any air conditioning.

I did have a problem and called three times to see if I could get it fixed. Don't know if it ever was fixed. You really don't know if they come while you are gone.

 

One thing that helped - keeping the curtains closed all day - so the sun wouldn't get in the room and heat things up worse.

 

At night, I would try the sheet only - still too hot for me. Next time I will bring a small fan - they have some that are about 8 inches wide. I'll try that.

 

And no - I didn't have the door open - it was just plain hot - I heard several people complaining right along with me. I personally think they have jacked up the temperature to save - whether it is on electricity, costs, or whatever.

Unlike others, I've found the cabin temperatures to be too cool and have had to set the thermostat above average.

 

It really boils down to what you're used to. What's warm for one person could be cold for another. When I lived in the Boston area, I kept my home between 62 - 66 degrees in the winter, depending on the time of the day. Here in Southern CA, I have it between 68 - 72 degrees (in the winter.) Today, it's 75 degrees out and I have a sweater on. If it were 75 degrees in Boston, people would be in t-shirts and shorts.

Just returned from the Ruby transatlantic and had a similiar situation. Room was too warm. Steward put on a top sheet so I did not have to use the comforter. I asked him to see if air could be adjusted. Maintenance came in and adjusted it and a BIG difference. They left a card on the desk stating they were in the stateroom and to call if not satisfied. I was very satisfied.

We had an inside room across the hall from friends that had a balcony room. Our room was nice and cool and they complained often that theirs was too warm. I think in part that it may be from the hot sun shining on the doors all day. Either way, it would be nice if Princess could fix this problem, it would sure make people happy.

So glad to see I am not alone with this. I keep the curtains closed and always ask for a top sheet. I reall think it would be nice if the thermostat was really adjustable. Then those that feel cool can turn it up and those of us that thing it is warm can turn it down. I really wish they would allow us thise adjustment. Unfortunately, I do feel like it is another move to save money.

 

The worst part is when I call to complain it takes 3-4 times before anyone actually does anything. By that time I am quite mad and have had a few nights of uncomfortable sleeping.

I have to agree, last week on the CB we had the temp turned all the way down all week and it was warm. :(

Me too, Billet. I usually sail balconiesand they can get warm but I have found if I lower the thermostat I have been fine and I like it really cool I guess I have been lucky

Over the past couple of years, both in hotel rooms and on cruise ships, I have found that thermostats don't work well. I'm used to at home if I turn it up, the heat comes on and we warm up quickly. We don't have air conditioning, so in the summer it can take a while to cool off our house at night, but in the winter if we turn it down, the heat goes off and the house cools down. On the other hand, it seems like when we travel, changing the thermostat causes air to blow around, but not change the temp too much, if at all. What's really weird is that you might be in the same room for more than 1 day, and all of a sudden, sometime during your stay, it starts to work.

63 degrees??? YIKES! :eek: I'm freezing just thinking about it. When the house temps fall to 68 we need to turn on the heat. I like my A/C same as everyone else, but we live all year round in a climate controlled environment of 74-75.

The thermostat was all the way down for the entire cruise. next time, I'll call to see if they can make an adjustment, AND bring a fan. It was warm to us, but it wasn't a dealbreaker.. we managed, and we thought it was our best vacation ever, so we're coming back!

I've never had a problem, I just turn the thermostat down and it's lovely and cool
