Jane Russell on the Queen Mary II

Just got back from the Autumn Voyage (10/29-11/5.) Anyway, after a lucky break for me, my cabin was one of the penthouse suites. On the last night my butler informed me that Jane Russell had occupied my cabin on the prior voyage. I didn't believe him for thought she was no longer with us. I was very much wrong and she is now 88 and obviously still enjoying the good life as we do when traveling on Cunard!

On a transatlantic back in 2006, Jane Russell was aboard, and introduced a showing of the movie "Guys and Dolls" one night. I saw her a number of times in the Queens Grill (a waiter pointed her out). If I recall correctly, she was traveling with her cousin.

My wife spotted Ms Russell checking in at Southampton (shes an old movie buff) on our Oct 23rd crossing, i must say she for 88 years old she looked fit and well.

While not a movie star one of the UKs well known soap stars Liz Dawn (Vera Duckworth..Coronation Street for our overseas friends) was on the table next to us in the Golden Lion listening to the pianist.

On our b2b last year (May 08) we had Rod Stewart onboard to Southampton who we saw often in the casino. My wife always tells friends how when she went to the casino "loo" then had Penny Lancaster sit in the "loo" next to her, with her entourage outside, but no secrets told!

Jane Russell appeared on stage during the October 9 TA cruise discussing old days in Hollywood. Standing room only. She was quite entertaining recalling old times with Clark Gable and others. She was quite for feisty for her age...88.

Cinema if you read the posts correctly you will see that Ms Russell was on the Oct 9th crossing to Southampton (even on stage sharing anecdotes) then returned to New York on our trip Oct23rd leaving her cabin free for original poster jax on Oct29th. No imposter and carried herself very well.

As my wife said to me she had an indefinable prescence about her.

Nov. 8 --- on board the Queen Mary 2 mid-ocean. I have been told by a staff member that Miss Jane Russell was doing "poorly" on the October 23rd TA to New York and stayed in her 10133 penthouse stateroom. I do have the distinction of having the same manicurist on the Queen Mary 2 that Miss Russell uses on her two round-trips from NYC to Southampton annually. She serves me in the Canyon Ranch Salon, but she goes to Miss Russell's stateroom, especially when said movie star is not well.

By the way, we have had several lectures from Christopher Buckley, full of himself, but have yet to hear from Rex Reed. Today's Divine Services ----the Remembrance Day service ---- was conducted by Captain Nick Bates and was most moving and traditional, no kissing or hugging for the greater glory of God and no happy-clappy carrying-on. LOL.

We too were on the 10/29 sailing and we constantly saw a passenger who appeared to "think" she was Jane Russell or at least a leading lady from Hollywood's golden era!

I believe I know the lady to whom you are referring. She was elegantly dressed at all times. She ate near us in the dining room and I looked forward to seeing what she was wearing each evening. She was the most elegantly dressed passenger, both during the day and in the evenings, I have seen on a ship in many years. The gown that she wore on the night of the Black and White Ball was absolutely gorgeous. I had the opportunity to talk with her and she seemed delightful. Her beautiful gowns and elegant daytime wardrobe certainly did remind one of the golden era of sailing.

Sorry we did not meet on the cruise.

If you cant dress up and feel good on QM2 where can you, so bravo to that lady for dressing elegantly...there is nothing wrong with that.

Better a peacock for a day than a sparrow for a lifetime (sorry changed that a bit ;)). Nice post Beth.

Yes...I realize Ms. Russell was on the cruise before mine. My comment was referring to a passenger who dressed as if she was from the era of a Ms. Jane Russell while on the 10/29 sailing

I was also on the 10/29 sailing and remember the lady you are referring to. I saw her most days - she was hard to miss - especially her sail away outfit.
