mickym Posted December 10, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 10, 2009 There will be twelve of us and our luggage departing from our hotel (Quality Inn Airport Sea World Area) in SanDiego. The hotel shuttle is $20 a person. What would be our best/cheapest way to get ourselves and our luggage from the hotel to the port?
yogi2929 Posted December 11, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 11, 2009 I cannot see 4-6 Taxis being $240 even with tip.
mickym Posted December 11, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted December 11, 2009 That's what I was thinking. I didn't know if there were other shuttles from the air port or vans? I'll have to look and see what I can find I guess unless someone is familiar with the area and knows.
Fredr Posted December 11, 2009 #4 Share Posted December 11, 2009 Hello, $20.00 per person for at best a 15 minute ride is a total rip off! If you can, tell the hotel's GM or group department, that you want this charge significantly reduced or eliminated or you will find other hotels. San Diego has a huge number of hotels in all price ranges, and many have free shuttles. There are Hiltons, Sheratons, Marriotts, Holiday Inns and Best Westerns among many others within a 5 mile radius of the cruise terminal. And do not hesitate to negotiate with any hotel farther out that you find...if they want your business it should be part of the deal...free shuttle to the cruise terminal. If so you are about 3 miles from the Cruise Terminal. I'd cab it.
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 11, 2009 #6 Share Posted December 11, 2009 Be sure to post this on the West Coast Ports of Call Board. Keith
riffatsea Posted December 11, 2009 #7 Share Posted December 11, 2009 Your motel is 4miles from the cruise ship dock. A taxi will be $3+to start and about $3+per mile soooo about $16+ tip. It sounds like even a few taxis would be less expensive than the hotel shuttle.
Fredr Posted December 11, 2009 #8 Share Posted December 11, 2009 Hello, She needs at least three cabs or maybe four given the amount of luggage. Adding in a tip of $5, makes each cab $21.00 or $63.00 for three cabs. This is still far too much. Another idea is to look into a van or SUV. This is workable because the airport, hotel and cruise terminal are within 15 minutes of each other. And there is an Avis office on Kettner Avenue which is close to all three. Krazy Kruizers Posted December 11, 2009 #9 Share Posted December 11, 2009 You really should look into other hotels that have free shuttles!!
