Smallest to Largest...Have I lost the plot?

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I booked Inside cabins on the Majesty 29th Nov as a pre-cruise to Allure Inaugural and wondering have I lost the plot or what?:D

Having never been on a ship smaller than Splendour, will I miss the likes of the royal promenade etc that I have had on most of my other cruises?

Will I go stir crazy for 4 nights in an Inside cabin? Will I be like a fish out of water having been so used to bigger ships?

What do you think I should or shouldnt miss while on the Majesty?

Today I am working on designs for tshirts but..."Smallest to Largest in a week"...doesnt quite work does it?:o

Help me out here please...tell me I haven't really lost the plot? :o:D

What is it about the Majesty that draws you back to cruising on her?

We have never been on the Majesty but we have cruised often on the Monarch which sails from Port Canaveral and is the closest Port to us.

To us, there is no such thing as a "Bad Cruise" or a "Bad Ship!" Big or Little makes no difference to us. We just love being on the Ship!

The smaller ships tend to be friendlier because the crew is smaller and everyone knows each other.

The Bar Tender in the Casino on the Oasis told us that he loved the ship but it was the first ship he had been on that was so big that he didn't know everyone in the crew.

Oh I would never suggest a smaller ship is bad because of its size..I was just wondering how it will feel being on a small ship when I have never done one so small before.

I am actually looking forward to the MJ heck I wouldnt have booked it if I wasnt but still my head keeps thinking..."did I do the right thing"...darn it I hate it when I second guess myself lol

I have heard that the crew on Majesty are fantastic and that is what drew me to booking the Majesty.:D

Liz,

I´ll let you know how it was :D! But we´re doing the "downgrade" thing in May, first Oasis then Majesty.

You'll enjoy being to walk from one end of the ship to the other in less than 3 minutes. You'll enjoy the crew, very friendly and both masters are great. You'll enjoy trying the Compass Deli. You'll enjoy having to be outside in the sunshine because there's no Solarium. You'll enjoy being able to feel what the motion of the ocean is. Miss the Royal Promenade? HECK NO!

the thing about Majesty and Monarch - it feels like "going home" - the big ships are fabulous - but.....there is something about smaller #'s...more close feeling..... love the feeling...(plus was our first cruise on Monarch)

you're not doing it wrong....you're doing it just right! feel good and enjoy! both will be fabulous! :D

small to large -

back to back.....

whatever works!

Hi Liz :D

It's as Trainman-2 earlier said.... better to be on a cruise than not.... I'd do what you're doing in a heartbeat.... though I'm still reserving judgement on Allure/Oasis despite Jim's amazing review.

Love the t-shirt idea.

Hi Linda :D

Oh yes as long as I am on a RCCL ship I will be happy :D Having been on Oasis I have to say I love it and said I would not go on a smaller ship again but with the cost of airfare I decided...what the heck..lets try Majesty before Allure as too expensive to do B2B on Allure.

A friend(well for the moment haha) emailed and suggested where I should put the "smallest" word and where I should put "largest" word  But she had it wrong way round...dont worry she will pay for that :p

This last November we did a 10 day cruise on the Jewel of the Seas then spent one night in Fort Lauderdale and then got on the 4 day preinagural on the Oasis. We liked it so much this November we are doing a 7 day on the Celebrity Eclipse then going directly over to the Oasis. Going from any ship to another to us is a treat because you get two totally different experiences. Plus it saves on air fare.

I actually prefer the smaller ships. Unless you have children/teens, they can be very enjoyable. Otherwise, the kids get bored.

I will have my 21yr old son and his 17yr old girlfriend with me but I am sure they will find something to do on the ship. :D Their favourite thing on our recent transatlantic on Navigator was to go in the hot tubs late at night....oh heck are there hot tubs on Majesty? They aren't into sports but love eating and relaxing by themselves and with 3 ports of call it wont be too hard to keep them occupied...I hope :D

Thats my way of thinking too...specially as we are travelling over the pond.

We will have 2 days between MJ and Allure which we will probably spend in Miami....ooh that reminds me...I remember reading before that RCCL would put folks up in hotel when they are doing a B2B but on different ships that may have day or two in between the sailings...does anyone know anything about this?

Liz,

Actually we booked air with RCI which includes the pre cruise hotel night. They weren´t able to confirm our transfer from the Majesty to MIA airport. We do have two nights between the cruises but weren´t offered anything. We are going to rent a car in FLL and do our own thing hotelwise. The only thing I wanted was the transfer Miami port to MIA airport instead of FLL port to MIA airport right after the Oasis cruise...

That "downgrade" thingie is still worrying me especially because of the cabin size. We´re traveling with our 10yo DD. And I´m not sure where to store our three suitcases and one bag on the Majesty ! Anything else is no problem. As long as our DD is on a ship she´s happy!

The strange thing is with regard to this hotel between "B2B's" is, while on Oasis booking Allure Inaugural I was told (as were others on separate occasions) that if we had one night or even up to two nights between the cruises ..RCCL would put us up in hotel and we would get transfers. I forgot all about this until recently. The problem is none of us have that in writing and to be honest I thought I had dreamt that until I found out others on Oasis had been told the same thing. My TA hasnt been able to get anyone in Miami to confirm this happens...I know it used to happen years ago but dont know if this is still how it works.

With regard to MJ cabin sizes ...well, I was going to book a JS for the three of us but the thought of just a curtain between us...well that didnt appeal to us at all :D So went with 2 inside cabins instead..oh yea and not only that I booked the smallest inside cabins there are  am I nuts? lol

But hey as long as we are fed and watered and somewhere clean to lay our heads I am sure we will all have great time.

Liz.......I think that you will like the Majesty. If you wanted a small ship, try one of Azamara's ships. The old Renaissance ships are still our favorite, and we would do a transatlantic or Med or the Caribbean in them.

However, I'm still not sure about the Oasis, and will hold any comments till the day that I finally get up the nerve to actually step aboard such a monstrosity!;)

Hi Rick

Smaller than Majesty  oh heck I am near having panic attacks just thinking about how small the Majesty is. My son was like..."Mum what you going to do cause you wont have the English Pub to go to?"

I did find a site with pics and videos of the MJ and she does actually look very beautiful...hoping the videos aren't lying.

Not everyone will like Oasis class...hey thats fine...as long as they try it before saying it shouldnt have been built etc etc well thats fine with me. You just never know...when you do step onboard her you may find yourself with a new favourite class of ship. :D

The only thing that I can say about this is, if you wear a T-shirt like this, you will be having men and women asking for your secret;):D

But seriously, I have been on Majesty 6 times and have loved every single cruise on her. There is a certain air about her that I can't quite put my finger on. I don't know about the inside cabin, but I think if you decide to sail her first and feel claustrophobic, just keep thinking - Allure, Allure, ALLURE:D Whatever you decide to do, have a great vacation.

Yes I really need to come up with a better design idea ;)

See thats how I felt with the Indy...she just had something about her that made her more special to me than the rest of her class.

We have some of our Oasis Critters who cruise on the MJ all the time and that was another reason I decided to book her...to me that said...she is a special little ship which we should try.

Now off to check deck plans to find quickest way from cabin to outside deck for fresh air :D Shouldn't take long to get out there should it :D

My favorite cabin aboard Majesty is 7552 - right on the Promenade deck. I would come out of my cabin, walk down the hall to the left (towards the elevators) turn right and walk out onto the Promenade deck. So, if you are on deck 7, port or starboard, you can walk out the automatic doors and be on the promenade. (I used to call it my balcony):D

What is it about the Majesty that draws you back to cruising on her?

The Majesty has a great itinerary! Key West, Nassau, and Coco Cay-a port every day and no sea days! You won't have time to get bored on the ship, not that you would anyway!

The Majesty underwent a $36 million makeover in mid-2008 and is gorgeous. And the ship isn't exactly small-it's just smaller than the mega ships that you are used to.

There are two hot tubs if memory serves me correctly. They are both quite small. The inside cabins are indeed small also, but are laid out so well that all your things should fit with no problem. The bathroom is the same size as other ships, and the closets are about the same size as well-maybe a little smaller. The room seems bigger if the beds are in the separated configuration. It opens up some space in the center of the room that you will not have when in the queen configuration.

The Majesty is the only RCL ship I have been on that has a Compass Deli. It's behind the Windjammer (may also be upstairs-I can't recall). It's never crowded in there and on embarkation day of the second leg of our B2B on Majesty, a bunch of suits from corporate were lunching there with some of the ship's officers.
