Yes; several years ago when we used to have our picture as an avatar, we were recognized by someone as we waited inline to board. Strange, but nice. (have since deleted avatar pic and review pics for privacy reasons)

On our last cruise I had three or four people come up to me because they recognized me from my avatar! It ranged from a group of folks yelling "Captain Ron!" in one of the lounges to a young lady quietly telling me that she enjoyed my posts in our roll call thread. The first time was a bit weird, but after the second time it became pretty funny!

Yes! Not from my avatar but from my trip reports :) my engagement trip had A LOT of pics. I got recognized within 5 minutes of being on Celebrity in December LOL. I was kinda embarrassed, I am a pretty shy person at times. My husband thought it was hilarious.

Oh, yeah, and it's one of the reasons I use a pic of myself. It's handy if I'm trying to hook up with people from our roll call that I've never met before. The main reason is I think it's cool-- on the bridge of Ruby Princess, sitting in the captain's chair, wearing his hat, security hasn't shown up yet...:rolleyes::D:eek:

Now, username gets a bit of recognition, but only because of posting on the cruise line board, the roll-call thread, and the meet and greet sign-up :p.
