so here was my question

"Good Morning, I am wondering if there is any way you could find out if I can view the final episode/series finale of the ABC show LOST on board the night we depart. There seems to be a good amount of interest on the Cruise Critic board and we would really appreciate it. PS I have also seen numerous requests for Caribbean/steel drum music on board any chance of that?? Both would greatly enhance my 50th birthday/27th wedding anniversary, Thanks!!!"

here is my lame non answer

"Thank you for your email. We apologize for the delay in our response.

Celebrity Cruises offers the following licensed satellite programming available in International waters: CNN International, CNNfn, CNN Espanol, ESPN International, TNT, Cartoon Network, Boomerang and Bloomberg TV. Domestic broadcast feeds can only be legally broadcast within 12 miles of the U. S. Coastline. "

saaaadddd channel selection for sure, hope it doesn't rain and glad I have a DVR

We will be getting off the ship on the 23rd and I have the DVR set to record it and the Jimmy Kimmel show. We should get home sometime before it is over. Set your DVR and don't read anything about it.

What they sent you is correct and was a stock answer. I guess they could have just said "NO". I do know that they pay for the license for sports events from time to time. Bummer I know, but .....have a great cruise anyway!

Is the answer lame because it didn't expand enough, or because you didn't like the answer? It is true they do not show live local broadcast channels. The only live shows are cable news and sports.

Not to be argumentative, but I don't cruise to watch TV, but to get away from it.......and personally, I haven't seen many threads about 'Lost', so not sure where the 'high interest' from CC is coming from

Glad you have a DVR. Their response wasn't lame, it provided you with the info so you didn't expect to see it and get very upset once you got onboard.

Hi Denny, always good to see you:).....a few weeks back there was

a thread about the show and there were quite a few people who

were asking if it was going to shown.

I agree with you though, not something I am interested in but lots

of folks are.....anyway, I am cruising Sunday and usually my tv

rarely, if ever gets turned on.....

I actually called Celebrity to ask this very question and was connected to the head of all programming for the US. The gentleman was very nice but unfortunately, Celebrity does not have a licensing agreement with NBC. To acquire one costs a boat load of money (no pun intended). As pps suggested DVR the show and find someone else as a back up to DVR it for you.

Hi Lois, good catch. Yes, Lost is on ABC. And with the exception of maybe Carnival, no cruise line shows network TV. Like one poster said, if they did try and show programming from the networks, the payment is based on the number of TV's and viewers, similar to what bars have to pay to show sports. Seeing that just one ship alone carries 2000+ passengers, it would be cost prohibitive.

Agree with Denny's post. I have never watched Lost, but even if I was a fan, I would not expect a cruise line to make special arrangements for me to watch a television program.

Hi Lois

I spend a lot of time (too much!) on this thread so I end up thinking I'm some type of 'expert' on it....must have missed that thread. I'm so addicted that I end up reading threads that aren't of my interest so I think I know so much more than I really do.

Enjoy your cruise! Just got back from a business trip to Dallas area and am tired and worn out a bit....need a cruise to get away and relax. Relax and have fun!

I only said it was lame because they didn't really answer my question, for all I know we would be within 12 mls when its on , no idea how fast we go, also I was thinking they could get the feed like they do for the Oscars if there was enough interest and it was also lame that they didn't even address my music question, just kind of felt like it was a scripted answer to all TV related questions you know like when you call Dell and all they want you to do is reformat your hard drive no matter what the question

It won't take long to get 12 miles out - what time are you saiing?

The casino can ony be open when the cruise ship is in international waters - and it doesn't take long to reach that - so I would think the cruise ship would be beyond the local broadcast signal.

I always thought that also, would love to know what the law is. We sailed out of Baltimore several years ago on Galaxy and the casino opened 15 minutes after we left the dock. We did not hit the ocean for 8 hours and Maryland was no more than a couple of hundred feet away all the way out.

It was a scripted answer. Suspect they don't have a large crew set aside to answer TV related questions and probably not that many email about it anyway except for big sporting events like Super Bowl.

Hopefully you will have such a good time on the cruise that whatever time that show is on will pass without you even thinking about it. There isn't any series show that's as good as being on a ship...suspect you will find that out within an hour or two of boarding!!!:D

Don, we've had 2 cruises from Baltimore and experienced the same. ;)
