Smuggler's Blues

Recommended Posts

Any remember the TV Show Miami Vice? Great shots of Miami, spectacular color images and down right great music.....Especially Glen Frye......if you do, then you may remember:

"SMUGGLER'S BLUES"

It would appears our friends over on the Carnival Boards are one large chorus and they are all singing this tune!

Carnival has joined RCI is prohibiting lots of carry-on things...including booze.

So, if you never tire of booze smuggling stories, there is now a new place to visit on CC to weave smuggling stories or decry the evil cruise line for not letting you bring your favorite bottle of Everclear.

Trust me, there were plenty of smugglers on Carnival before that rule changed.

You couldn't carry booze on to Carnival before those rule changes. What Carnival has now taken away is the ability to buy hard liquor from the cruise line for your cabin.

Hello fellow Ft Worth guy.

We're smugglers. And going to give it a go again in 10 days.:D

Let us know how it went. On Carnival many years ago I packed a case of

Miller Lite in my suitcase and they iced it down for me every day. I guess

those days have gone south.

mdrobtx, have you (and all others who announce their intentions to smuggle) considered that these boards are open to anyone who cares to read them, including RCCL personnel? You've posted your photo, day of departure, hometown and numerous previous cruises. It wouldn't be difficult for RCCL to query their database for cruisers with your profile. But I do think it's ridiculous for cruiselines to forbid adults to bring aboard a legal product--especially since they aggresively promote drinking THEIR alcohol. So...I hope you don't get caught.

Rum Runners baby. It's never failed me.

Loaned ours to a friend for a Voyager cruise. They were caught and confiscated even though nothing else in the luggage would have made them check. We had used them once before and didn't even drink what we brought so we won't miss them.

I have considered all. In the whole scheme of things, I'm small potatos.

Have you also considered they've gone and checked to see how much my markers were at the casino and my sign and sail expenses including my bar tab were on my previous cruises. Several hundred dollars worth per cruise.

So...I'm not really worried about my $40 worth of contraband causing a big uproar when I'll spend several hundreds of other dollars on the ship itself.

Believe me, if I'm not in my cabin, I'm not running all the way back to it to get a drink.

"Another bucket of beer sir? No problem man.":D:p

This thread meshes well with the one on the future of RCL and CCL stock. Why do you think the cruise lines are finally enforcing their rules? To maximize the bottom line.

CCL actually has a less restrictive policy in that each cruiser is allowed a bottle of wine or champagne. That seems reasonable to me.

On the other hand, those who smuggle, and especially those who smuggle large amounts are actually stealing from the shareholders of the company, and there are many shareholders on these boards.

We booked a GS on Radiance for December just yesterday! (I Loves me some WOW sale!) and discussed this issue with the RCCL employee on the phone. DH and I prefer Spumanti to champagne, but the ship doesn't carry it. I asked about their policy for bringing on bottles, and he said that it was restricted, but (and he never said this to me ;)) they don't "check". Next time I speak to him, I'll ask him if it's better in the checked baggage, or in carry-on. It's been over 2 years since our last cruise, so I'm fuzzy on the check-in details.

Oh for Pete's sake. Can we tone down the inflamitory laguage a bit. Stealing??? You take all meaning away from the word when you use it like that.

Cruise lines walk a fine line with their booze policies. Be too restrictive, and become so annoying you chase people away. Be too liberal, and you lose alcohol sales.

Being more restrictive is not allways good for business. RCI's profits - and presumably the fortunes of their shareholders - are maximized when they find the right balance... not when they all one way or the other.

It is funny how people do not understand that happy customers are return customers who tend to spend more money. Persecute your customers and treat them like children and suddenly you no longer have that customer. I hate to report to the RCCL shareholders, but supply exceeds demand for RCCL ships at this point. Thus the reason for lower cruise prices. It is simple supply and demand. Adding another 5000+ passenger ship to the mix will only make it worse. RCCL has huge bills to pay. They need to keep demand high to fill their ships. Make your customers feel unwelcome or unwanted and they will go elsewhere. Less demand leads to lower prices, more cutbacks, and even more happy customers. It is a vicious cycle. If you have no customers it does not matter how much they spend onboard. I agree with the previous poster, they need to walk a fine line and balance the two. It is not as simple as saying smugglers are stealing and therefore lead to lower profits. There are lots of options out there, RCCL's shareholders should demand that RCCL do everything possbile to retain its loyal customers and keep them happy.

If you call back and talk to three different employees, you will get three different answers. Is he going to be there defending you when your bottle gets confiscated (they are no longer returned)? Of course, you do what you want, but I wouldn't take this employee's word that they won't "check." Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, but I'm thinking more now than ever that they do.

I am a stockholder and I would love for you to tell me of what good it is NOW???
