:mad:I couldnt believe that Carnival allows smoking in the cabins. I hate the thought of walking into inside cabin and smelling smoke. Carnival has assured me that I will not smell it. How is that possible? I dont even want to touch anything in a cabin that has been smoked in. Can any nonsmokers tell me that I wont smell it in my cabin? I dont want to offend smokers, but I love my lungs:)

I am a nonsmoker and I have never smelled in any cabin I have been in on Carnival. They do any awsome job cleaning all the cabins.

Then you might want to look into another cruiseline.

(one that prohibits smoking in cabins.)

You more than likely won't smell anything, but I would

guess most have been somked in at one time or another,

with the exception of the nonsmoking spa cabins.

It's worse when you are down-wind of a smoker on a balcony cabin!!!!!

I've never noticed an odor in the cabins.

I am a non smoker (never smoked in my life) and in 30+ years of sailing with Carnival I have never, ever smelled smoke in a room. Ever. And I am sensitive to the smell also. I can always tell when someone has been smoking in a non smoking room in a hotel, they apparently don't have the ionizers that Carnival does. Go and enjoy and rest assured that you will NOT smell smoke in your room.

OTOH, I have noticed that Carnival is a "smoky" line as a general rule. Smoking is allowed on so many venues around the ship that you WILL encounter it along the way. For example, Cleopatra's lounge (piano bar) is along the walkway to the dining room on the Fantasy. The passage way is a circle around the atrium so it is possible to go around the other direction to get to the dining room. However, on the nights that we forgot and took the route past Cleopatra's we literally had to hold our breath as we passed because of the smoke coming out of the room into the hallway. I am not allergic to cigarette smoke, I just think it stinks to high Heaven!! The same effect can be had walking by the casino (I tended to go WAY around the outer wall when I would pass). So, that being said, know that there are many smokers on Carnival ships. Depending how sensitive you are to the smoke, it might make more sense to look at one of the other lines that severely restrict where one can smoke.

Just my $.02

We just got off the Splendor a few weeks ago, and well, we were in a Spa cabin and smelt smoke like crazy! (The smoking on the whole ship was the worse I've ever seen it). Anyway, we would thought our neighbors were smoking because we kept smelling it on our balcony. We were assured by the supervisor of the floor that there was no smoking in these cabins.

Well well well...I beg to differ, I was sitting on the balcony while we were leaving Mazaltan and I heard somebody light a match. I was like, "oooo, I gotcha". Well, I peaked my head around the corner and there he was just a huffing and a puffing. I can normally tolerate some smoke and no my limits. So when it gets to be too much I just leave. But I was highly ticked that my neighbor was smoking and this was supposed to be non smoking cabins. I went and grabbed the room the steward and he saw him as well smoking. He called his supervisor who went over there to tell him there was no smoking aloud. I"m not sure if they got the $200 fine or not; but they were pretty pissed because we have trash (matches and cigarettes) on our balcony for the remainder of the cruise. We told our room steward about it and he just cleaned it up. It got to the point where we started just cleaning it up ourself.

Lesson be learned....I won't tattle anymore. Tattling isn't nice...and you also don't know what people will do. You don't know what kind of psycho you have rooming next to you.

Moral of the story, there are people who do smoke in the Spa rooms.

RCL doesnt allow smoking in cabins.

Carnival Splendor and Dream dont allow smoking in spa cabins... there are other options.

I have read that there are times you CAN smell the smoke, not often, but it happens. If you are going to freak out if you smell smoke, you might want to change your booking.

I hope they did get fined....and I'm a smoker.

Smokers like that make us all look bad.

I would also like to add, that Carnival does an option job of cleaning out the smoke the smell. I've never smelled smoke in any regular cabin. I have often wondered how they get the smell out! It's amazing. But, I know my limits and know how long I can sit in the piano bar or the casino.

I kind of hope they did too. Because I guess what made me mad the most, is when I would be taking a nap with balcony door open and the smell of smoke would wake me up. But being that I was assured there was no smoking I just took the benefit of the doubt that it MUST be coming from below us....oh well. I guess some people don't like rules...

No, it is Celebrity not RCL that doesn't allow smoking in cabins or balconies.

Well they do.

They do a great job of getting rid of ALL smells (except on the Dream).

We've always cruised with Disney in the past, which does not allow smoking in the rooms. We are going on our first Carnival cruise in October and opted for a Spa cabin because of our fear of the smell. I guess I could have saved some money had I read this thread first. It appears to be a non-issue but if you've never cruised with Carnival before how would you know? I have had awful experience on the last Disney cruise where our neighbors on both sides smoked. We enjoy the balcony as we pull in and out of port...so did our neighbors :(

It is a non issue. As if I tell the OP I never smelled smoke and everyone else says they never smelled smoke and the OP smells smoke... well you get the idea.

The OP needs to either get an exclusive nonsmoking room and or non smoking cruise or take the chance of the POSSIBILITY of them being able to smell smoke.

My question would be what happens if the room is not up to your standards? IE you smell smoke, there is a fresh stain etc. Who would you contact how would it be respolved? Have you had that expierence.

We have never had a problem with the smell of smoke in Cabins. What ever they use is great. I only have a problem when walking through the Casino or other areas that allow the smoke. I am a non-smoker and a very sensitive nose. Enjoy your cruise

I am a smoker but don't like other peoples smoke or stale smoke. Therefore I am always considerate of people when I do smoke - smoking outside I will smoke in designated areas and down wind from people - smoking in the casino I always ask my neighbour if they mind if I smoke and if they do I don't (don't need one that badly) - smoking on my balcony I make sure no one is around that it will bother (that I can see) I do not smoke in the cabin or in a hotel room. I don't even smoke in my own home. This being said - I have never smelled smoke in our cabins and had inside and outside.

It would not be Saturday without a smoking thread

OP I know what you mean by stale smoke smell, it's gross, but I've never smelled that in any cabin. And it's awesome you love your lungs, but the SMELL of smoke will not harm your lungs, the actual breathing in of smoke does via second hand or first hand smoke.

Cheers and have a nice cruise, and hey don't forget to walk through the cigar bar waving your hand in front of your face and looking offended;):p

There's third hand smoke;) Smokers must realize that when we nonsmokers walk by, their smoke gets on our hair, our clothes, and in our lungs, and it LINGERS! But I wont do any more complaining about the public areas. I think all ships should have no smoking allowed in cabins. Where I live, all inside smoking in public places is banned. I hear theyre worried about extension cords, etc. But a drunk smoker doesnt concern them??
