Smoking in staterooms

Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has had a problem with a stateroom that was previously occupied by a smoker (we are non-smokers). The cruiseline assured me that they clean the room prior to each cruise in such a way as to eliminate any odor.

Thanks--Dave

Has a stinky room once. I complained and they changed all bedding, shampooed the rug, washed all the walls down, etc. When they finished you could not tell someone smoked in the room.

They do nothing special to any room -just the standard cleaning between cruises unless there's a complaint. I did notice on our last trip that the cabin steward had a sheet of special requests on his cart & one thing that caught my eye was "smoke sensitive" for some of the cabins. Possibly they received special treatment?

They have a process to deal with smokey rooms.

I have asthma and am smoke sensitive as a result. I just let my TA or Princess agent know this when I book a cruise. So far I have not had any problems with a smokey cabin.

I sometimes travel with people who do smoke, but they will only do it on their balcony or on one of the outside decks (usually Lido), where Princess allows it.

I know about the process & I know it doesn't work to my satisfaction. The only thing that really helps when a room is really smoked up is changing the drapes, pillows, bedspreads & shampooing the carpets.

That being said, we've only had a real bad problem 1 time on Princess last Feb. and it was corrected within 2 days.

Good to hear it was taken care of.

I have sailed Princess 5 times, never had a smoke smell in the cabin. I have on a few occasions had to move inside when I was enjoying my balcony due to a smoker. Even that was not a huge issue. If it was I would kindly try speaking to the smoker and make some kind of arrangement so we could both enjoy our balconies.

I had a problem once with a cigar smoker in the room below. It wafted up into our room constantly. Complained and Princess staff asked the smoker to refrain from smoking in the room but even when he smoked on his balcony, it still made it up to my balcony and occasionally tainted the room. Truly was a bummer.

i've walked down the hall past a room where you could absolutely tell there was a smoker. princess must do some fancy cleaning because i have never noticed it in the rooms i have been in.

The smell in the hall way is there because of the constant air being pulled out of each cabin through the events in the bottom of the door and it keeps a lot of smoke from sticking to the drapes & furniture. The hallway itself acts as an air return.

I quickly learn on each cruise which routes not to take when there are heavy smokers nearby.

Hi there,

The only problem that I could have had was when a smoker set fire to her cabin, but the fire team put the fire out and the captain kicked her off the ship at the next port.

I wish I knew that Princess was more of a smoking allowed ship before I book a cruise for September. Smoking is not a good thing.....and I would have preferred a cruiseline that is more health conscience for its passengers and crew. If you could have seen what our family saw with my step-mom recently when she had lung Cancer..... PRINCESS get with the times........limit smoking on your ships!!!!

Not a smoker (Save a cigar in the Cigar bar or two) but the system works well.

Princess leave it the way it is.

It works well for the smokers.....obviously. But there are other passengers and crew members that dont smoke. I am not new to cruising.......luckily I dont gamble. Have had to walk through many casinos due to ship layouts....disgusting......disgusting. Dont people realize what it does to their lungs and others??

Well as I said no smoking ships have been tried and failed so I don't see Princess heading in that direction. :)

I am sure you are right. But that doesnt make it right...... Just like the rules all over ships......are they enforced.....yeah right. Glad I dont go in the sun.....would never get a chair with all the chair hogs. The adult only pools and hot tubs......more kids than adults on some lines. Dont do salt water....so no biggie for me. But Princess has fresh water.....so may want to try a pool....if I dont have to worry about kids where they dont belong. I guess since we are sailing on Princess in September.....we will find out how well they enforce the rules. :)

Well, the above comments show why I am hesitant to even attempt to discuss my desire not to bother my neighbors with balcony smoke.

Dont be hesitant. The point is that there are way more people who could careless about being considerate. If people were considerate....there wouldnt be chair hogs, kids in Adult areas, or piles of wasted food in the buffet areas. It is unfortunate that we arent all considerate of one another more.
