Boat to Capri?

When the ship docks in Naples does anyone know if it's easy to catch a boat to Capri without paying for an excursion? Thanks.

Last year we did the Capri hydrofoil out of Naples...short walk from the ship to the ferry terminal. Beware of the locals who will try to scare you into the idea that you can't do it alone or that you won't make it back on time...they are trying to sell their own local tours....

Purchase your ticket and you are on your way. The hydrofoil is an experience on its own...very crowded but worth it.

We didn't find we had enough time to warrant the long line ups for the trip up to Anacapri but found that there was plenty to do/see. Lots of great shopping, had lunch and generally people watched. Next time we will try to journey higher as I'm sure there lots to see, but there isn't a lot of time if there are crowds that day...

Enjoy:)

You should be able to see the hydrofoil from where you dock, it's easy enough to do on your own. Just give yourself enough time when returning, as others have stated, the hydrofoil can be very full. Another point to mention is that it takes about 50 minutes each way and can be quite a choppy ride. Our children did feel seasick and I wish we'd given them a tablet before we set off, but as they had been fine on the ship for the previous 5 days, I hadn't considered the possibility of them being ill on the short ride over to Capri:o!!!

Yes it is easy to get over to the hydrofoil. Just get over there early to purchase tickets (round trip) and give yourself extra time to get back so you don't miss the ship.

Hi Keith,

We always do our own excursions, but being on an isle has me a little cautious. Naples is our last stop, so have to get back on the ship!

We dock at 7:00A. Do you think a 8:35A hydrofoil is doable?

When we buy a r/t I gather it has to be with the same company?

We depart at 18:30P, so thinking about taking the 15:25 back.

Want to leave plenty of margin in case something goes astray.

Also we're taking a three hour boat ride around the isle.

Thought perhaps to take the funicular first thing in the morning for a walk around the piazzetta and then taking the boat.

Are we doing too much?

Thanks for any advice.

Mari:)

As others have said, it is a short walk from the cruise pier over to the ferry terminal (towards your left as you exit the cruise port). There are 2 or 3 different companies that operate jetboats and hydrofoils (you do not want the very slow large ferries) between Molo Beverelo (the name of the ferry terminal near the cruise port) and Capri so you want to simply by a ticket on the next jetboat/hydrofoil when you get to the ticket windows (the schedules are posted above the windows). Its a good idea to buy your return ticket as soon as you arrive on Capri (there is a small ticket office right at the end of the pier) so you don;t have to wait in line in the afternoon. Make sure you make your way back down to the Capri port (Marina Grande) in plenty of time since there is often a queue to get back down on the funicular.

You can actually buy your return ticket at the Naples ticket office.
