Getting an upgrade

Recommended Posts

The one that calls the D+ desk to remind them they want the upgrade!:D

I know a few that have more than 30 CC's, but will start calling 3 weeks out to "check" on their status. I know that some D+'s with over 100 cruise credits will not get a call till the cruise is about 2 weeks out, and that happened just 3 weeks ago.

So, I don't see consistency in place as of yet.

Im one who calls..........with the pretense of something else......the other day the rep asked if I wanted to order my amenity..........told her no,I need to think about it...........knowing I wanted a good reason to call back starting tomorrow..........even though technically I cant get an upgrade on a 3 nt cruise till I have 75:mad:

I'd like to know if they have figured all this out yet.......say I book Jan 1st for $1000 and you book June 1st for $2000,who gets the call if we both have say 30 credits?

The one that paid $2000. Based on price paid.... the higher the revenue, the better in RCL's eyes.

Also, you "could" get a call WITHIN 3 weeks. That doesn't necessarily mean that exactly 21 days prior to sailing they're going to call.

There are enough loopholes in both those paragraphs to prevent anyone from getting an upgrade. :(

Then why bother with the date booked wording?

but what if there isn't anyone else with more credits than you?? I was on a sailing that had LOTS & LOTS of open cabins 3 weeks before sailing and we called and they said, we don't HAVE to and the next week they put it on special and then waited another week before they started upgrading. we didn't get one because there were not enough cabins in that cat left!!!

on this next sailing we were called 2 weeks out.

Even though RC *says* that they have clarified the criteria for getting an upgrade, they really haven't.

And I'll bet that there's an element of "whose cabin can we best use for another upgrade or re-sell if we upgrade these passengers?"

Excellent point! I wonder if they also take into consideration the amount of $$$ D/D+ members spend while on board - sea pass bills, specialty restaurant visits, tipping habits, etc.

Thank you for reminding me.......even tho there are not cabins for us to upgade to (we have an OS) my DW has been dragging her feet, hoping for something new in the way of amenities. Well, no such luck, and we will be in Miami one week from tonight......getting ready to board the Majesty.:D

It's not only D/D+ members who spend on those things. We're now D but when we were lowly Gold and Platinum (only 1 cruise ago) on every cruise we booked 2 cabins - a JS and an inside for our boys, bought wine and soda packages, dined twice in Portofino (when available), gambled in the casino, prepaid our tips (and then more) ;)

I am so happy about my upgrade because it was a total shock, I had not been waiting for it, taking into consideration all the things I had done on my previous cruises or that I was just a lowly gold - that made it even better - total surprise was the best! No sweat before hand!!!!!

Oh,I have no doubt of that........they upgraded me to the RS cuz it was much easier to sell my OV cabin......

Are you always notified of your upgrade or do you just find out at the pier?

Thanks!

T.

They call you.......but it doesnt hurt to check your cabin assignment under MY CRUISES....some have found out that way

Well, we are two weeks out from our cruise today, and I will see if I get lucky enough for an upgrade. Not counting on it at this point, but it never hurts to ask.:)

Just will be happy being back on the water again.

Rick

Thats true.....thats what it is all about..:D

I noticed our upgrade by checking the status of my booking under "My Cruise" on the RC website, we had booked a Balcony Guarantee, and received a GS, this was 12 days before our Oasis sailing, thank you Royal, loyalty does pay.

After this I was also send an amended set of documents that showed the new cabin. ...........Happy Days
