algorithmannie Posted August 10, 2010 #26 Share Posted August 10, 2010 I love cruising on Celebrity, but have to agree that evening entertainment is the weakest part of the experience. On Solstice last winter, I didn't think the shows were very special... or even worth attending... and I love cruise shows! We usually ended up in the Ensemble lounge and there seemed to be a fun crowd. There was a live band that took requests and the bar tenders danced with each other and cracked jokes. However, I'm in my twenties and the music was a bit older and not so familiar. My parents in their fifties knew the songs though, and we all had fun. For our next cruise on Eclipse, we've decided to make our own evening entertainment. We'll probably have drinks, play cards, watch movies in the room, sit on the balcony and chat. We also opted for early seating dinner so that we can get an earlier start in the mornings. I WISH that the jacuzzis were open late... I love going for a soak before bed time! TeaBag Posted August 10, 2010 #27 Share Posted August 10, 2010 We sleep too. Love those Celebrity beds and the gentle rocking of the ship.
Gonzo70 Posted August 10, 2010 #28 Share Posted August 10, 2010 Is this like a sing-a-long piano bar?? No, not at all. More like a concert pianist playing very old music. At least that is how it was on both my Century and Equinox cruise.
labeachcomber Posted August 10, 2010 #29 Share Posted August 10, 2010 Is this like a sing-a-long piano bar?? I just love Schooner's on RCCL. Celebrity doesn't have anything like this? As Gonzo says, yeah, it's not the type of piano bar that I think most of us would be looking for. Schooner's is great on RCCL. Wish they had that as well on the Equinox. Perhaps because Celebrity traditionally has an "older" crowd that they don't think a piano bar would appeal to most people. I'm hoping that will change. The Ensemble lounge is fun, but the band plays in an area sort of behind the bar, so unless you happen to be sitting at the bar, you're not really right up in front of the performers. And if you're seated at the far end of the room, the bar makes it hard to get a good line of sight.
cruise47 Posted August 10, 2010 #30 Share Posted August 10, 2010 Ditto for me sunnytag. It is usually a race to see who can undress the quickest.... In Nov we'll be in a PH, and getting back in there will be highest on my list of things to d after dinner. The evening entertainment never has interested me.... Cheryl Wow!!! I usually beat the Commander-in-Chief to the sack !!!!!
Redtravel Posted August 10, 2010 #31 Share Posted August 10, 2010 Sleep for me. Whatever for you. Party, drink, gamble, or snooze...the choice is limitless. Nobody will tell you what to do. Just do as you please...relax and enjoy!
Gracie115 Posted August 10, 2010 #32 Share Posted August 10, 2010 Is this like a sing-a-long piano bar?? Well it depends on the ship. With Perry Grant on Constellation it certainly can be, and if not it's fun anyway and he plays late, late. On Solstice this past January it wasn't as good but still played late. They were breaking in a new piano guy too out side of Michael's and I suspect he may have had a bit more energy than the guy at Michaels' in January. Perry is as good as any pianist we've seen at the Schooner Bar on any of the Royal ships we've been on. It really depends on what ship you're on and who happens to be the entertainment for your cruise. Some will be more lively than others. But I will say that we are up late every night, never gamble, but always found things to do.
elena7seas Posted August 10, 2010 #33 Share Posted August 10, 2010 One thing I wish Celebrity would do would be to have a piano bar like the Schooner Bar on Royal or like the piano bar on Holland America. Both of these lines have piano players/singers that play a variety of music that appeals to all ages and interact with the audience, sometimes do some kareoke and often play songs people sing along with. It is a fun, energectic venue for late night entertainment on those ships. I think Celebrity would do well if they had this type of entertainment in Michaels from 10pm-2am or what not. It would provide another venue that appeals to the younger demographic and help boost the limited late night entertainment concerns many have. I agree wholeheartedly. The Schooner Bar was our favourite spot on the Serenade of the Seas. The vibe was more interactive and lively in the Schooner Bar than we have found, in our experience, in Michael's Club. The music trivia competitions, with selections played by the pianist in Schooners, were lots of fun. I do think that Michael's Club is underutilized and something of this sort would be very welcome. bonsat Posted August 10, 2010 #34 Share Posted August 10, 2010 Is this like a sing-a-long piano bar?? no, just an average piano player with a bad singing voice. i too enjoyed going to the sing-along piano bar on HAL and have suggested this to X several times. michael's club is great if you want to be put to sleep quickly! 24butterfly Posted August 11, 2010 #40 Share Posted August 11, 2010 I usually do late seating for dinner too, and like to go to the show (and I HATE when they schedule the shows before dinner!!) then take my $20 to the casino to play roulette. I do wish X had something like Princess' "Movies Under The Stars" which was a very nice alternative to just hanging out in a bar somewhere. Although I would find the jumbotron tv to be an annoyance during the day by the pool. Oh well! But a few different late night options would be good! I hate it too!! Whay are they starting to do this !! It's such a let down after dinner....
mathgeek1978 Posted August 11, 2010 #41 Share Posted August 11, 2010 When I was on the Solstice in June, many of the parties (Latin, 50's, 60's etc) went on way past midnight (is it late enough for you?). You can see the videos of all the parties on my youtube channel below. If midnight is not late enough, the disco is another option. There were pretty good crowds till anout 2AM when we were there.
