firefly333 Posted August 25, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 25, 2010 They like cash best as a gift. If you give them something, of course they are going to be polite and say thanks. There was a long thread, probably with lots of ideas, where someone is making CDs of themselves singing to give out that was going until a couple of days ago you might read thru. wasiii Posted August 25, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 25, 2010 .....where it eventually was determined that the steward have very small living quarters and they have no room for little things like that. But there's always room for cash! :D wasiii

terigo Posted August 25, 2010 #7 Share Posted August 25, 2010 the answer will always be the same.... do not give service staff anything they have to pretend to like in order to be polite and gracious, or anything they have neither the room nor the interest in having. money is the best way to show your gratitude for a job well done and the most useful thing they can get. They'll ACCEPT anything you give them, that's not the issue. The issue is, they'll be disappointed not to receive cash. Honestly they need and appreciate money more than a gift. Rirruto Posted August 25, 2010 #10 Share Posted August 25, 2010 Like everyone else has said, a cash tip would be the best gift they could receive. The entire reason why they're working thousands of miles away from home is to earn money.

Calebo Posted August 25, 2010 #12 Share Posted August 25, 2010 Chillaxin: I think those video's answer the gifts question quite well, but do u think a 6' stuffed Gayner the Gopher ( Sk Canada football mascot ) would find room in there and I'm sure the crew would love one !!! :) :) :) No offense to anyone, just a bit of Canadian sarcasm. MrPete Posted August 25, 2010 #13 Share Posted August 25, 2010 Does any one bring gifts for the room stewards ,for appreciation, what do they like to recieve and do they except them. Leave your gifts for your friends. They want cash. As much out of your pocket, and into theirs. A mention of them on your comment card goes a long way as well. golfadj Posted August 25, 2010 #14 Share Posted August 25, 2010 Cash is king. They work to support their families. Do not understand why someone would give them part of their tip as something they might have no use for or no room in their cabin.

lillian marie Posted August 26, 2010 #17 Share Posted August 26, 2010 Do not bring gifts, give money. These people live in tiny cabins and are not your friends. They come from cultures very, very different from ours also. They are going to be overly friendly to you because that is their job and they want the autotip. Do you give gifts to the maid in a hotel when you stay for a few days? This is just the same. If you feel you must give something give postage stamps or international phone cards. They can use those. Cute momentos will be trashed. My husband speaks several languages and has worked overseas including the far east and Africa a lot. He overheard 2 stewards discussing a woman passenger who was over friendly and it was not a compliment to her, the opposite. Don't hug your stewards etc. Their cultures are not like ours. Just be respectful and polite.
