Is it much cheaper for 3rd person in cabin

Considering accompanying elder parents on a cruise, what do you know of 3rd/4th person shared cabin rates, is there a cruise line that has better offers for this sort of arrangement. Thinking a Baltic or PanamaCanal cruise for Fall of 2011.

From what I've seen, it depends....

Factors might include time of year, destionation, etc.

Suggest looking at a few that are of interest to you and entering the booking info to see prices (this is the begining of the booking process, but not the payment part).

Also, not sure about other lines, but on Celebrity any discount that applies to one guest in a cabin will apply to all guests in that cabin (ie: sr discount, resident rate, etc)

Hope that helps,

Sara

Go on RCI's website and "pretend" to book. Start the reservation, choose 3 for number in the cabin and take it from there. If you had a 4th person, it can sometimes be cheaper or pretty much the same to book one balcony and one inside cabin across the hall.

You need to find a ship that has the ability to accommodate 4 adults without having to use a bunk bed. You’ll probably have to book a suite to meet this requirement. And then ask yourself if you’re really up to sharing less than a 10’x20’ space with your parents/in-laws? Will the “elderly” passengers require bathrooms where they don’t have to step up into the bathroom or over a bathtub edge or will they need to be wheel chair accessibility? I’ve always found when traveling with 4 adults it was cheaper to book 2 veranda cabins than a suite large enough for 4. The privacy and 2nd bath was included in the lower price.

Check out Holland America. They usually have lower 3rd & 4th passanger rates (under $300 even in a suite).

We cruise during the summer. There was a time when we'd be able to find 3rd/4th person rates as low as $99 or $129, but it seems that those days are gone. In the last couple of years, the 3rd/4th rate on cruises I've looked at have been only $100-$200 less than the 1st/2nd rate, making it cheaper for us to get two cabins (usually a low category balcony with an inside across the hall for our kids). Perhaps there are still 3rd/4th deals to be found at other times of the year, but it's been a long time since one was offered on any cruise I was considering.

On our last cruise on the Caribbean Princess (July 2010), our friends paid a 1st and 2nd rate of $899 for an inside cabin, and the thrid person rate was $999, and for a balcony cabin, the rate was $1299 for passengers 1-4.

Carnival has a great 3rd person rate, but other than the 8 day Freedom cruise, doesnt go to Panama. that one doesnt go there all the way, but gets you where you can do a excursion thru the locks.

RCL is more expensive on the 3rd person rate vs. Carnival. RCL Iv even seen the 3rd person rate higher than rates for pax 1 and 2.
