Any christians interested in doing a group cruise???

Before some of you start attacking me, My DH, bff and her husband and I just got off a cruise on the Freedom. We had a fabulous time. We enjoyed a lot of what the ship had to offer. Spent a few dollars in the casino (I would rather spend my money on other things like the spa, etc...), bingo and spent some time in the 70's club and karoke. Only had one instance that I really hated was a guy wearing a t-shirt with different "positions" on it in the MDR. I understand that nowadays people can wear just about anything in the MDR but can't the line be drawn somewhere? There were parents of small children and older people in the dining room that were offended.

Anyway, back to my original question. I was wondering how many people there are like us on a cruise. Christians who don't drink but like to have a good time. We would have loved to met others like us. (Don't be offended anyone can do as they wish just as I can do as I wish). Would anyone like us be interested in possibly doing a group cruise?

I just wanted to point out that unless you charter the whole ship, more than likely there will be someone that will do/say/wear something that will offend somebody. And that applies to both Christians and otherwise.

I know there are some organizations out there who do book the entire ship and we're not really interested in that. We're not opposed to drinking we just don't do it. We like to throw away a little money in the casino and of course we love BINGO!! We like going to the nightclubs and watching others dance and even dancing ourselves. The companies that book the entire ships close down some of the things we really enjoy. As far as someone doing/saying/wearing something that offends me or others, to each his own. I can ignore coversations and I can even ignore what I consider vulgar T-shirts (unless they are dancing around in the MDR and high fiving the waiters while they are on the stairs trying to singing their farewell song). I just was wondering if there are others out there like my friends and I who would enjoy cruising on a "regular" Carnival ship together.

That would be awesome check under the section that says Themed Cruises there are lots of groups that do those things and they are awesome....

I would.....but it might be hard to get a group to agree on a week. I don't sail during the winter because snow might delay flights....and who wants to come home from 85 degrees to a snowstorm? :o

We would be possibly interested in booking something as a Christian group. We love to cruise also. More so from the standpoint of meeting fellow Christians (particularly those who also love cruising as we do :) ). Though we are members of different local church congregations we have to bear in mind that we are all members of the body of Christ or the unseen church. I especially love meeting Christians from all over the country and/or world, it really is a blessing.

Not to mention the non-group passengers that would then come back here and complain about the "totally obnoxious bible-thumpers that took over the ship"...

 

I get the OP's desire to organize a group of like-minds who would potentially enjoy things in the same way, but the truth is that there are a million-and-one denominational differences. Without some way to control entry into the "group", you'd probably end up even offending each other.

 

Deanswife, lots and lots of ministry organizations plan theme cruises each year. Try googling "christian cruises" and see what comes up. That would also give you a better chance at finding a "branch of the family" you'd be comfortable with.

Do you belong to a church? Our church recently sailed on the Glory with about thirty people. We had daily gatherings and Bible Study. Just remember that many Christians drink and if you are offering a general invititation, you should expect an exceedingly diverse group of believers.

I like your original post and the respectful way you handled your questions. There is nothing intolerant or insensitive there. Just dignified and honest remarks. I imagine there are lots of folk who would like that cruise. We have discussed taking a Christian cruise, having some Christian bands and entertainment would be awesome, but for the reasons you pointed out, not sure how it would be overall and what would be different. Hope it works out for you.

Here I have talked my DH, parents, sister and BIL into cruising out of Charleston on Carnival. They all had reservations about Carnival, and I assured them that the passengers would be like any other cruiseline we have been on. We only had one other mediocre cruise with Carnival, and it was during spring break for our children. The children loved it, but we and my parents were not prepared for the college students on SB. :eek: Thought this cruise would be different with schools in session and no colleges on breaks.

Lack of consideration of those around you knows no season and is reserved to no particular cruise line. We have many Carnival's under our belt and have had very little problem with inconsiderate fellow cruisers, but it can happen anytime and anywhere, on land or at sea.

Please don't let the possibility of having one person wearing an obnoxious t shirt or doing something offensive ruin your trip. We had a great time on our cruise and if it were possible would do another Carnival cruise tomorrow. :D

It's against Cruise Critic guidelines to promote any group cruise that is not organized through Cruise Critic. If that is your intent please state so.

I wanted to see if there was any interest in planning a group like this before I started the whole process. It is my intent to plan it thru cruise critic if there is enough interest. Sorry for any confusion.

Maybe the OP wanted to organize a CC group?? I was thinking along the same lines you were.

 

Im not sure it would help to have a small group, as others pointed out, people from outside the group might offend you.

 

OP you might want to see if there is enough interest and do a CC group. If they can do single parents, why not christians?

Good idea to find the "possible" cruisers, "yes" cruisers and then set up your cruise

don't be afraid to stand up for what you believe is right, and if maitre 'd

did not respond well you could write a complaint with Carnival

My husband and I are Christians, and we've just booked a Carnival cruise out of San Juan for March 6 2011. We'd love to meet other Christians on that cruise, even if an official group is not organized.

I wanted to see if there was any interest in planning a group like this before I started the whole process. It is my intent to plan it thru cruise critic if there is enough interest. Sorry for any confusion.

 

I'm not sure CC would be the venue for a religious themed cruise. I truly mean no offense here, but I would hope CC would keep itself inclusive of those from all faiths or lack thereof. I'm by no means saying you shouldn't try to get together a group on your own if that's what you want to do. I just don't think CC would be the venue to do it under. You couldn't really say "only Christians from CC" can book if someone else wanted to book for the rate and/or perks with the group rate.

My church has a travel agent that offers cruises once or twice a year. Also, Radio One does a yearly Gospel Cruise. I've never attended, but I'd love to one day.

Just a suggestion: be quite careful how you word your cruise. Setting up a Christian theme cruise would be fine. Setting up a group restricted to Christians would, IMO, be offensive. For example, would you reject a non-Christian who might be happy to join a Christian group cruise? The title of your thread certainly seems to indicate this. Wouldn't it be better to ask "Anyone interested in doing a Christian group cruise"?

I know the Christian radio station KLOVE has an annual cruise where they book the whole ship. Often other Christian organizations will too. Check out David Jeremiah's church...they also do this.

I don't have a problem with people drinking (I don't) as long as it's done in a responsible manner.

 

As far as turning the other cheek...we first ran into the "gentleman" (and I use the term loosely) outside of the International Lounge. We saw his T-shirt and my husband then mentioned something to the assistant cruise director about Carnival's policy on vulgar t-shirts. The ACD did not know the policy and said he would check on it. I didn't see the guy and his t-shirt again until an hour or so later in the MDR. We did voice our concern.

 

Thanks for the idea about stopping off at an orphanage or school. I would love to do something like that.
