kathyemma Posted October 14, 2010 #1 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Last year we sailed on Carnival's Liberty and we all LOVE the piano bar. The piano player/singer was amazing. We have never really gone to the piano bar on any royal ship. What are they like? Are they fun, sing along bars? Or is it more low key? We will be on Oasis next month. TIA Kathy

cb at sea Posted October 14, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 14, 2010 It depends on the entertainer....some are better than others....however, they almost all will either do a "sing-a-long" or "name that tune" sort of thing.
kathyemma Posted October 14, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted October 14, 2010 Exactly that! Great fun all around.:p Thanks so much. Don't know why we never ended up in one on Royal. Is it open every night? If I remember correctly, on a few ships it was by the casino - I passed by the piano many times, but never saw anyone playing it. So glad we can enjoy this on our upcoming trip. Kathy

Totally agree with cb...We've been on cruises where the piano bar was a blast and the entertainer really engaged the audience; conversely, we've been on a few where the entertained fancied himself Billy Joel and did not relate to the audience at all - it was a drag! cruiseguy1016 Posted October 14, 2010 #6 Share Posted October 14, 2010 I've never been one to just hang out in a piano bar. We cruised two years ago on Adventure with some other couples. We stopped at the Schooner bar on the way to the show the first night. The piano player was amazing. He took requests and really engaged the crowd. We went back after the show that night and every other night during the cruise. We had a riot.
Caliterp07 Posted October 14, 2010 #7 Share Posted October 14, 2010 My first RC cruise, the piano player was phenomenal! He took requests, everyone sang along, and it was by far the highlight of my whole cruise. He even had a fan club--one person made a shirt that said "I <3 Piano Bar Paul" This recent one though, the guy was super dull. He didn't play anything sing along worthy, almost everything was a ballad or just boring. The schooner bar was empty most nights, or was just people engaged in conversations or reading a book or something.
Rare BecciBoo Posted October 14, 2010 #8 Share Posted October 14, 2010 You can find out who the piano bar entertainer is for your cruise by emailing here: web_reservations@rccl.com However, I can say we have enjoyed all of the ones we have seen so far. They have assigned times they appear in the Schooner Bar.
encinatis Posted October 14, 2010 #9 Share Posted October 14, 2010 first cruise the family took on rccl back in 02 they had a fantastic singer at the piano bar, not only did he look like elton john but sounded like him too.

dolfandude Posted October 14, 2010 #11 Share Posted October 14, 2010 I've only been on one Carnival cruise and four RCL's. The Carnival piano bar was exactly that..... a dedicated small room with a true piano bar and it was unreal. 4 nights out of 7 in there and always packed. The Schooner Bar is just ok.......... and no where near the atmosphere of the Carnival piano bar. Not even remotely close!! And I'm a huge RCL fan so no flaming please!!!! It is what it is! wrp96 Posted October 15, 2010 #15 Share Posted October 15, 2010 It really depends on the piano player. I've had some fantastic ones, and then there are a few duds. Unfortunately one of my least favorites was on my Serenade cruise last year and then again on my transatlantic cruise last month. Ended up spending all my time in the Champagne Bar because he's just not good.

sjcruiser Posted October 16, 2010 #19 Share Posted October 16, 2010 Schooners (the piano bar), was my hangout on the Explorer. Even when the piano player wasnt performing, I was there for Tv, music and entertainment trivia games. It's a great place to hang out, meet new people, and ofcourse sing the songs you know, and think you know. It's funny getting to a lyric, and the piani player says one line or word and you say another, who's version is right!!! lol
