Enchantment Arrest

Someone was handcuffed and taken off Enchantment this morning when we arrived in Baltimore. Security/Police took a straw hat out of the room. Anyone hear what happened?

Yes. He was caught not minding his own business, and worrying about things that didn't concern him.

He wore shorts in the MDR on formal night:D;)

I thought it was his lack of shorts or pants for that matter....just his skimpy speedo he had on at dinner.

Chances are 1% outstanding warrant, 99% drug bust.

Agree likley it was a narcotics offense. Did the ship stop in Jamaica?

I just talked to a friend of mine who was on the same cruise and he told me what really went down.

The man in question was put in handcuffs and escorted off the Enchantment. Also the police took a straw hat out of his room.

I couldn't have said it better myself....in the long run or greater scheme of things it really doesn't matter what someone was arrested for. The police and courts will take care of it. Lets use this forum for what its for, like asking if i can wear shorts in the MDR :D or sneak on my 3 cases of Jack, Jim, and Jose!

When I see reports of people being arrested at a port from the ship, it reminds me that crime really doesn't take a vacation. Cruise ships are a microcosm of what goes on everyday around us. People make poor choices on vacation because they are out of their familiar surroundings, drink too much which clouds their decision making abilities, or decide to go along with what they think "everyone" is doing. Mostly, it points to a use of bad judgement coupled with the belief no one will notice and they can get away with it. My feeling, is while I'm on ship I'm in a foreign country, and my unfamiliarity with other judicial systems is not something I really want to learn. ;)

OK...editorial over. :)

I agree with the microcosm comment. When I returned from a cruise 5 years ago, my uncle said how three people died during the cruise from natural causes. I sure didn't hear about it and it wasn't something that made "news"--just a basic death report/obit he read somewhere. Then he told me about how 6 people died on a cruise he was on--including a staff member murdering another staff member during a disagreement and someone jumping overboard to commit suicide! (And, sorry, I have no idea what cruiseline it was or when he took this cruise for those who want to look up the grizzly details.) Again, this was something he found out about later. Trust me, there's a lot more going on during your cruise than you'll know. Unless there are witnesses to spread the gossip, such as people seeing the man taken in handcuffs, the cruiseline is going to stay hush hush about any other unpleasant events.

I assume the person above who suggests that the OP mind their own business does not read newspapers or watch television news. Afterall, much of what is in newspapers and on TV is "other people's business." Humans are naturally curious about what is going on around them, especially when it is something out of the ordinary.

We just disembarked the Enchantment on 11/4 that was visiting Bermuda. We heard something had happened but still don't know what. But we are curious.

Wished they would have disembarked the 'psycho' cruiser in the cabin next to us. Every night was a nightmare. So bad one night we did have to call security. The other nights were bad but earplugs did help somewhat.

Still had a great cruise and really liked the Enchantment. Service was excellent, the food was very good and the rest of the passengers were very friendly. Just a little too crowded in the Windjammer.

One cruise we were on had similar numbers, I think. As well as a couple of passengers who were evacuated as soon as we pulled into port (one of whom didn't make it). Our particular cruise did have a group of people who were seriously ill, and the others in the group seemed to know and accept the risk that they were all taking for the end to come while they were away, but they all seemed to be having a great time, overall. I suppose it's a good way to go.
