Me (and my crackpipe) would SOOO be on that ship in the heartbeat.

We love adventure and this is a free SAFE one that folks will get to talk about for years.

No toilets for 12 hours, no fancy food, no hot water for a couple of days and a safe adventure PLUS a free 7 day cruise sign me up any time !!!

You keep saying this........so why don't you book a cargo ship cruise:confused: You can sign up anytime:rolleyes: They are on a free cruise? What part of this free cruise is a cruise:confused: Give me a break......everyone knows talk is cheap........real cheap:rolleyes:

Actually most of the people are having fun. Their hanging by the pool make the best of things. A little canned crab on saltines. Some bottled water and nice lil pop tart for desert. This is not the "disaster" some are making it out to be. It's an adventure.

Really? Are you telepathic? Because that's about the only way to know that "most of the people are having fun."

I suspect you're just guessing. And if I were to guess, I'd say that you're way, way off. I suspect most of the people, the vast majority, are ready to get off a ship with partially-functioning, stinky toilets, no air conditioning, no hot food, probably no TV/casinos/arcade, etc.

It isn't a "disaster," true, as there has been no loss of life and no serious injuries reported. But it certainly doesn't sound like a fun adventure, either. This is one of those experiences that will make for good stories months and years from now; but the "in the moment" experience sounds pretty miserable to me.

Considering how both the USCG, US Navy and Mexico Navy arrived on the scene what i think was a pretty decent amount of time, i dont think it was all of that scary. It could be alot worse such as being dead in the water for days before you see help coming your way.

I agree...I don't know how the response could have been much better. They are getting supplies from the US military (via our tax dollars) and a foreign country's military! If Carnival had to hire private contractors to airlift supplies to the Splendor I'm sure the response time would have been a lot slower.

Negative people see things through their negative filters. No surprise there.

So, it looks like they are heading to Ensenada, right? I wonder if the PA system works, so they can keep people up to date on the latest...

I'll be John is exhausted! Knowing HIM, he is doing his best to keep everyone's spirits up!:)

It's possible. According to "Stephanie":

Given the ship’s speed and current position, we have decided to take the vessel to San Diego where it is expected to arrive late Thursday. Additionally, we are in the process of making all the necessary hotel and flight arrangements for our guests. If the ship is unable to maintain sufficient speed under tow, it is possible that we could revert to the previous plan and dock in Ensenada

That is their opinion....i would consider it an adventure...others wouldn't....i know MY personality....i would be making the best of it...nothing i can do to change it, so make the best of it...a LOT of people have that kind of personality....if I were on that ship, sure...i would be uncomfortable, probably holding my nose, etc. but i would NOT be walking around, grumbling, making other people miserable...i would be trying my best to keep a smile on my face...

There's a story playing on local news here in FL from KGTV in San Diego. It has CG video from yesterday of the Splendor, then a shot of a tug pulling a Carnival ship that isn't the Splendor. Looks like a much older ship, maybe the Holiday or Celebration. It is a cover shot for just a few seconds, then back to the CG video. I guess some editor found a shot of a tug pulling a Carnival ship and figured, what the heck, no one will know the difference. Don't believe everything you see on the news.

Sure looks like a course change and a beeline to Ensenada. I guess plans have changed again.

As per the blog, they haven't ruled out anything:

certainly shows what their personal hygiene is like.

NO hot water to shower; stinking toilets. etc. Not my type of person!

There is NOTHING wrong MY personal hygiene!!:rolleyes: All I am saying is i would be making the best of a horrible situation! When you can't change the situation, you can either make the best of it, or cry and moan and groan and make other people miserable...would I LIKE not being able to take a hot shower? of course not...would i still shower and use cold water and soap and deodorant? of course...geez....

Your local news is like the FOX news .. they are saying 4500 of passengers AND CREW.

There are only 3299 or some such number of passengers.

Gotta listen carefully to how the news is saying things to make it sound even worse than it is .. 4500 pax on Splendor would be newsworthy in and of itself.

CNN and MSNBC also said 4500 passengers oh well.

Cold showers can and do get the job done. At least enough to get rid of BO.

And the toilets work now so not sure why they would be smelly now...even so, I don't go to the bathroom for the ambiance.

what exactly are "other popular people from Yonkers" ?

:D

some political person i think

Just a local state legislator from Westchester traveling with a senior citizens group.

Negative people see things through their negative filters. No surprise there.

Then there are the people on drugs who always think things are fine and rosy, until they are the ones in the same situation and cry foul.

Read the one first-hand report we've heard thus far, from somebody's wife on board. "Cruise from hell" does not ring of a 24 hour deck party. Unless you're a survivalist and spend your weekends in the woods, this must be anything but a picnic for the people on board and I suspect they would gladly trade places with you in a heart beat.

geeze lighten up francis....just because other posters have said they would like to experience this doesn't mean they have poor hygene habits. they've all stated that they wouldn't be at their most comfortable, but they would make the most of the situation. cold showers and even "sponge" baths from the sink are options.

No, the shots I saw were from the air

I don't think it was the Splendor. Probably stock video.

I heard the news copters can't fly over the ship, like restricted air space or something like that.

IMHO, I don't think it is shots of this cruise on the Spendor.

When we sailed Splendor it was listed as 3, 299 pax.

We were on that ill-fated swine flu cruise that re-routed to SF (in the rain).

We opted to disembark in LB as we had word that our son had been taken to the hospital with the flu. Even then, with our early departure, CCL gave us a great incentive for a future cruise.

It was a near riot situation.

Our situation in no way compares to what is happening now. I hope the current pax are behaving better than the ones on our cruise. :)

I read it and it was drama filled. Certainly not eveyones perspective. Some people thrive on drama

Probably the best use of our tax dollares that I have seen in a long time.
