I would like a retractable one and would like to protect it in the clear sheath as I have been known to be a little clumsy at times when eating/drinking. I don't want to spill anything on my card. Thanks again for the replies.

Just wanted to let you know that the Sail and Sign Cards are plastic, just like credit cards. You can spill any kind of food or drink on it and it won't get damaged. All you need to do is wipe it off. It can even be washed in the sink if it's too gunky.

I believe that you can buy the retractable card holders in the gift shop on the ship. What a neat souvenir.

Its plastic .. what could you spill on it that wouldnt wash off I cant imagine?

I have all the kinds, but I like to have a hole punched in my card. Carnival sells some nice longer beaded ones, $8.95 I think they are, we have those too. I go back to the kind you punch a hole in .. because you dont need your hands free to open your cabin door!!!

If you want one that comes apart .. why not buy it from cruise critic???. I would rather have their and people ask what is cruise critic than something from a walmart that has nothing to do with cruising.

I bought the pack of stuff plus the two shirts, the pack with the laynard, and the part with your card snaps off when you want to detach it. Nice ones from Cruise Critic and they are having a nice sale right now.

What is a "slinky kind"?

They are springy and stretch so you can put your S&S card into the machine in the casino and not have to take it off your neck. They are free. coiled, in red and blue I have them. I think someone else said they had a white one, but mine are red and blue.

Only one problem with this idea, some of the information printed on the sign and sail card could wash off.

I was going to get a lanyard bu t I dont even wear neckchains, so I think I'd be a little uncomfortable with that hanging around my neck. I have an ID holder from school, that can also hold up to ten bills, so I'll take that. It has a ring that can attack to a belt loop, etc.

thats why I have that wrist one. Its a springy white ones, not beautiful, but I kinda hate wearing one around my neck. This one just slips over my wrist and the card hangs down a bit.

I have a brand name neck pouch from ebay where I keep passports, and the boarding pass and the customs form. I only wear it when Im boarding and debarking.

I have a pouch that allows me to carry my sign and sail card, my DL and a few dollars.

Having that pouch --thats all I need when going into a port. You need your sign and sail card AND your DL to gain access back to the ship area anyways.

Be careful outdoors if you use the type with the clear plastic sleeve and tuck the lanyard under your shirt. The open decks tend to be windy and we've had the wind catch our lanyards a few times and blow the card out of the plastic sleeve. I also saw someone else lose theirs overboard that way. It's become second nature to us now to tuck them under our shirts when we go out on an open deck that may be windy.

Woe... that would be crummy. Good suggestion especially with a smaller sized lanyard.

My neck purse for boarding and debarking is made by samsonite, but looks kind of like this one.

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=neck+purse&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=14452405742259822031&ei=29QCTZWiL8KclgeNwKjICQ&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CDIQ8wIwAQ#

As much as I cruise, I need to stay simple and organized.

Does anyone know the size (dimensions) of the sail n sign cards? I want to get a lanyard with an ID holder, but want to make sure the card will fit in the holder. I guess they are all similar in size and the card should fit, but wanted to check. Thanks.

I know that you say you don't want to spill anything on it, but they are plastic and you have to use them all the time which means they have to come out of the pouch. The pouch is going to be more trouble than it is worht and you can always wash the card if you get something on it.

No it can't and if it does they will replace it for you. All the needed info is embedded in the electronic strip on the back anyway.

believe me nothing will wash off, rub off or come off - not a problem with our cards on any cruise so far.

I know you mean that with the most respect and thanks.

The reason i stated that was because personally after using the spas i have had cards printed information partly washed off.

Actually a trip to the pursers desk was all that was needed to rectify the problem.

I take my casino lanyard from the local casino here, its not springy but its red and a little glittery looking, somewhat fashionable :D

The lanyards that kids/adults keep their keys on would also work well. They sell them at the dollar store for a buck, maybe you can find your favorite sports logo one even.

I also do not recommend the pouch kind, as you need it to get into your room/have to "bing" in and out at each port, swipe it in the gift shop etc. Not a huge deal, but heck less work the better.

After you "bing" in for your cruise, head straight to guest relations in that same lobby area, ask for a hole punch to your card. Put it on your lanyard hook and you are good to go. This can also be done in the casino when it opens, but this way you are one step ahead of the game!!!

Happy Sailing.
