Sailing on Carnival soon. What are the security procedures, if any, (metal detector/etc)?

I normally always carry a small pocket knife (3-4") blade on my person.

I would not think this to be a problem but its a new experience to me. I don't want to cause a problem.

thoughts please...

I carry a swiss army knife in my hand luggage (mainly for the cork opener!) and I did get questioned very closely by the Oceania line boarding the Nautica in Barcelona. They eventually allowed me to take it on but it was touch and go. Would have put it in a main luggage had I realised rather than risk getting it confiscated.

OP is on Carnival and their contract states no weapons; if the pocket knife blade is considered a weapon, it will be confiscated. It is less likely to be noticed in packed luggage than carry-on luggage, but the policy applies to both.

(f) Weapons, firearms, contraband, ammunition, explosives, incendiary devices, or other dangerous items are strictly prohibited aboard the vessel. Carnival reserves the right to confiscate, destroy and/or turn over to authorities these or any other items it deems in its sole discretion to be detrimental to the safety or comfort of any person or which are otherwise improperly in the possession of any Guest. Each Guest warrants that no such articles are contained in any receptacle or container carried or presented as baggage. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited except as provided for in clause 8(f). All Guests agree Carnival has, at all times with or without notice, the right to search Guest’s baggage and/or personal effects for any of the prohibited items, at any location, to ensure compliance with these restrictions. Any Guest who refuses any such search or screening, or any Guest traveling with such items, may be denied boarding or disembarked and no refund of the cruise fare will be issued. The Guest will be solely responsible for any and all damage and/or loss caused by his violation of this policy.

The guide lines say no knives and they could confiscate it but I always take my small knife (2" blade) in my checked baggage and have never had a problem. I had it in my carryon once and the x-ray gal told her super about it. All he said was that it was a little one and let it go thru.

Thank you all for your responses.

These boards are really great. I've been able to look up our cabins, schedule my excursions, learn what to bring and more.

I really appreciate all the info!

I'm looking forward to posting our own review when we return.
