Children's Sleeping Arrangements

Hi, there! I am taking my kids on our cruise for the first time this fall. We've been several times on our own, but have never had to think much about where the kids sleep.

 

I know they have rooms with a bunk overhead and a sleeper sofa. My kids are 4 and 3. I'm a little nervous about my 4 year old sleeping on the top bunk.

 

My questions are as follows:

 

On the top bunk, is there some sort of railing that will prevent my little guy from rolling over and possibly falling off the bunk while he sleeps?

 

The sleeper sofa...would there be room for both my kids to sleep on it and not do the bunk at all?

 

What obstacles have you come across or what arrangement do you recommend from your experience?

First...Welcome to Cruise Critic....The upper pullmans do have a partial rail at the head of the beds..The nice thing is when you get onboard you will be able to have the choice of which you want made up and can change your mind after the first night..I might opt for having them both on the sofabed at that age..also ask your room steward for a mattress topper or eggcrate if you think the sofabed needs it..Enjoy your cruise !!!

You can fit both small kids on the sofa bed...or stick them on the floor...at that age, it's "adventure" sleeping! Kids can sleep anywhere!....and they will!

Just in case you haven't seen pictures, the sofa bed is not your ordinary pull-out convertible sofa that we typically think of. The sofa bed is slightly smaller than a regular twin bed. It's a little bit shorter in length; I'm not sure if it's any less wide. They just take the back cushions off the sofa, and turn the seat of the sofa into a bed, by putting the sheets on it. I found the sofa bed to be very comfortable. Whether 2 small kids could sleep on it, maybe test them with a twin bed at home.

really would depend on the cruiselines. Princess has pullout beds as does royal caribean

Strange, we had a sofa bed on Carnival and it seems the exact same size as a twin.

I had my twin 4 year olds sleep on the made up sofa bed over Christmas on the Carnival Triumph without any problem...they slept one head on one end, other head on other and never once complained but they aren't large 4 year olds. Then our 7 yr old slept on the pull down which does have a small barrier railing.
