karena1 Posted January 29, 2011 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2011 Does anyone know what the obstruction is on MOS deck 9 for the SOV rooms? it is basically the girders/such for the life boats. Trust me, we have been on Monarch enough to tell you the obstrution is no big deal. you might see a beam ouside your window, but you can still see what is out there
schmeed Posted January 29, 2011 #3 Share Posted January 29, 2011 I agree with Karena1. Even if you have a lifeboat in your view, you can still see the ocean. Might not be a perfect view, but you can see. Even if there is an obstruction, natural daylight coming in through the porthole/window is nicer than an inside cabin with all artificial light. IMHO. schmeed Posted January 29, 2011 #4 Share Posted January 29, 2011 Had to add this picture that someone else just took from Monarch. Shows the view from a cabin on deck 8. You can clearly see between the lifeboats. One deck up and you would see the top of the lifeboats. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=182583&d=1296334834 There was a website that showed pictures people posted of their rooms. If I can find the link, I'll add it to this post.
SECdawg Posted January 29, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted January 29, 2011 Thanks for the info. I agree with the natural light, it can make a difference.
morganboys Posted January 29, 2011 #6 Share Posted January 29, 2011 that is not a good picture above either. looks to be between 2 life boats. our cabin was over a boat so you looked straight out over it. much better view than the picture above. some have much better views and i cant imagine the view would be any worse than that. cruisin4kicks Posted January 29, 2011 #7 Share Posted January 29, 2011 We've stayed in both. The SOV cabins on deck 9 are bigger than the ocean view cabins on the other decks. 145 or 150 square feet I believe versus 120 square feet on the OV cabins below deck 9. Believe it or not, it does make a pretty big difference. Tim
d4nigirl Posted January 29, 2011 #8 Share Posted January 29, 2011 If it's anything like the Majesty (in which I've heard they're basically the same), these are our pics of the Superior Ocean View room's view we had on deck 9 this past summer. Still did the job. We were in room 9522. I still miss looking out the window to see our view every morning after we'd wake up.
madthumper Posted January 29, 2011 #9 Share Posted January 29, 2011 Just got off the Monarch 2 weeks ago and stayed in cabin 9012. The view is great, as others had said, you'll be looking over top the lifeboats. Besides the JS, I would say deck 9 is the best for OV.
seaofwonder Posted January 29, 2011 #10 Share Posted January 29, 2011 We were on Majesty deck 9 and no girders in front of our room, but we just saw the top of the lifeboats. Not a big deal at all!
cb at sea Posted January 30, 2011 #11 Share Posted January 30, 2011 Looking out of those windows is NOT the optimal way to view the ocean...it's a view, but not much of one. You'll want to go to an open, public deck for REAL viewing. You'll get natural light thru your window...that's what it's for...not great for spending any kind of time....so don't worry too much about it! Rare silentbob007 Posted January 30, 2011 #12 Share Posted January 30, 2011 These are the best non-suite cabins on the ship. They seem huge compared to the standard OV and inside cabins.
ZoeyVictoria Posted January 30, 2011 #13 Share Posted January 30, 2011 I have been in the superior oceanview on deck 9 and oceanview on deck 8, and there is a huge difference in the size of the room. You will be very happy on deck 9.
