Because they had an interesting itinerary at the moment we want to travel at a good price.

I also remember the service being very good. However, I wished they would do away with the formal uniforms for the waiters at the pool that takes away from my vacation feeling and makes me even feel uncomfortable :(

Not meaning to hijack the thread but there used to be an old cruise line ad campaign where a woman in a bikini was relaxing on the beach, the cruise ship anchored just off in the distance, and a waiter wading up to her apparently coming from the ship to give her a glass of champagne. Effective in stating luxury and relaxation can be combined in the right environment. I like the fact that Celebrity's staff always seemed dressed well and made me feel like I was in a more upscale cruise line.

I'd like to say the smoking policy too. It is great to not smell them all over the ship. This is the only cruise line we have gone on and feel it is a perfect fit for us--Formal, but not stuffy/ Friendly and comfortable/ even if the art is kind of out there they have opened my eyes to appreciate art/ the cabin personnel are very attentive. I love the food too.

Same here. Clean air is a HUGE selling point for me.

Also for us the addition of Select Dining is a cruising must have for us.... another point not on the poll.

In order of importance:

1. Non-smoking policy in cabins and on balconies

2. Excellent service

3. Select dining

RCCL has such a photo opportunity in Labadee. I have a picture of me in bikini, being served champagne in the water by a waiter in tuxedo  ;):D:o:cool:

In no particular order, as they are all part of the package for both my wife and I:

Elegant, attractive ships (per our experiences on Zenith, Mercury, &, most especially, the Connie). Apart from the overall decor, the comfortable public lounges, and the easy-to-navigate layout of the ships, we appreciate the generous passenger-space ratio; the ship never feels crowded (except sometimes in the buffet!:)).

Attentive, courteous, and professional service (per our experience of wonderful room stewards, waiters, assistant waiters, etc. These hard-working crew members always seem eager to please and are happy to meet reasonable requests.)

Generally excellent food (We're not foodies per se, but we loved the old Michel Roux menus. Having read some negative comments re. the current culinary regime, we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the Jacques van Staden menus on our most recent cruise--not quite in Michel's league, but certainly not bad by any means.)

The no-smoking policy (fresh air for all!)

Live music provided by the "big band" (the show band) and by various classical performers.

Lectures on various interesting topics by guest speakers.

Great value for money. We all know the maxim "You get what you pay for." Well, for us, Celebrity somehow makes it seem like you get more than what you pay for.

All of the above, along with the policy of limited PA announcements (we enjoy the captain's daily noon briefing and the absence of constant "buy buy buy!" sales pitches piped through the ship), we enjoy the overall atmosphere we have experienced on Celebrity ships: Relaxed and relaxing, but neither too sedate nor too boisterous; elegant without being stuffy or pretentious.

We do wish Celebrity offered even more sailings out of New York/Bayonne, our home port, and we regret that none of Celebrity's ships are designed with a true wrap-around promenade deck. But those are small drawbacks when the overall product, for us, compares favorably to what is offered by most mass-market cruise lines.

Ditto the smoking policy. I'd be curious how it would rank if it would be included as a choice on the poll and if only one answer were allowed.

Ditto the smoking policy. No smoking on the balcony and in the casino. If this oprion is included it will definitely rank in the top, judging by all the posts that refer to the policy.

Great replies folks...what's really interesting is to look at the results of the Celebrity pool and compare it to the Carnival pool.

Interesting indeed. Would be nice to see both polls broken down further, with separate options for 'price' and 'value'; as well as 'itineraries' and 'close-to-home'.

(but I appreciate that the original poll was on another board and not by you, Mr. Luckytoo, and thank you for running this side-by-side poll :) )

We did a back to back with the January 29 cruise first. Basically, I was dealing with pretty bad back pain the entire 2 weeks. I woke up the first morning and my back had "gone out" during the night. Our poor cabin attendants reconfigured my mattress situation 5 times trying to make it more comfortable for me, but I'm still having problems. Everyone tried to help, but basically, it seems that most or all of the mattresses on board that we saw or talked to people about are old, old, old and pretty saggy.

I got around pretty well during the day, then woke up to the recurring pain each morning.

I just wasn't in the mood to socialize and spent a lot of time resting in the cabin and in the T-pool when on board. Chronic pain wears you down. Despite this, I had a great cruise, even though I missed a couple of ports in order to stay on board and take it easy.

Customer Relations was superb. Housekeeping too. Dining personnel outstanding as well. The staff gives 110%, but they have limited resources at their disposal to work with on board, i.e., no other mattresses on board. I'm going to write Dan Hanrahan and ask if they'd consider giving passengers a pre-cruise option to pay extra for an orthopedically supportive mattress. It could be a money maker. I'd definitely pay for it.

Sorry I missed y'all.

Susan

Hi Susan, so sorry to hear this:( and I hope you feel better soon.

As for mattresses, mine was not saggy at all...I slept wonderfully:D

But just an FYI....she will be Solstizied next January for 3 weeks

so I am betting new mattresses will be part of it.

I already voted for service, but being from the Chicago area I will vote again- vote early; vote often as they say (this is a joke - no offense intended:))

My second vote is also for the smoking policy. I prefer X anyway, but after my last cruise on RCI was tainted by the lack of ability to use our balcony at all due to chain smokers next door, I have sworn off other cruiselines until or if they change their policies on smoking.
