carjac1 Posted March 3, 2011 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2011 I have a very nice camera and dh wants to bring his laptop. Is there a safe in the cabin? or is it safe to leave these items in our room? What about excursions? I would like to bring my camera but suppose there is no way to store it safely while snorkeling or something. Any thoughts? I could just bring my little point and shoot camera if I have to. C
CruiserBruce Posted March 3, 2011 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2011 Without knowing what ship you are on, we can't give a definite answer. Most ships do have safes in the cabins, but sizes vary. Theft isn't too serious a problem.

WillieD13 Posted March 3, 2011 #4 Share Posted March 3, 2011 Theft of your camera while snorkeling is a pretty minor concern. IF, should it come up missing, remember, there are only so many people on the boat, and it is a captive bunch. Where would they go, where would they hide it? Best thing is to tuck it into the bottom of your bag, and pile your towels, shirts, hats, and whatever else you have with you, on top. Out of sight, out of mind. But, computer and camera equipment will not fit. They will be safe in your room. As for excursions, common sense, and you should have no problem. Tralynn Posted March 3, 2011 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2011 The safes are too small for computers, but some camera equipment may fit. Imagine a small glove compartment...that's about the size of the safe. We have always brought our laptop and a few cameras and have never had an issue with them in our cabin. We always bring cameras on our excursions also, and have never had a problem. We simply put the camera in our bag. But as always, never bring with you anything that you will be totally devastated if it is lost, stolen or damaged. As a rule of thumb, we always download our pictures daily so that if something happens to our camera(s), we at least still have most of our pictures. That's what's most important to me. The rest is insured.
sue402001 Posted March 3, 2011 #7 Share Posted March 3, 2011 I have a 10" mini computer and it fit nicely into the safe on NCL's Dawn.
CruiserBruce Posted March 4, 2011 #8 Share Posted March 4, 2011 I have a 10" mini computer and it fit nicely into the safe on NCL's Dawn. But the OP isn't on NCL, they are on RCCL. Different lines have different safes, even, as I understand it, particularly on HAL, newer ships have larger safes than older ships.
sail7seas Posted March 4, 2011 #9 Share Posted March 4, 2011 While it is true laptops, cameras etc do not fit in most ship's safes, HAL's Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam have large safes that hold our wallets, my netbook, cell phone, jewelry and there's plenty more room. It's a great upgrade to have put these larger safes in the new ships.
DKane Posted March 4, 2011 #10 Share Posted March 4, 2011 When I bring something valuable that won't fit in the safe I lock it one of my suitcases that we store under the bed.
Putterdude Posted March 4, 2011 #11 Share Posted March 4, 2011 Laptops and cameras are about 99.9% safe in your cabin. I have never had problem with leaving them and a very expensive pair of binoculars in plain view in the the cabin. As I only take snorkel camera ashore I have really no beach experience. cb at sea Posted March 4, 2011 #12 Share Posted March 4, 2011 Cameras will fit in the safe...a laptop, probably not. Lock it in your suitcase, if you fear theft.
