Dover Cruise Terminal

Recommended Posts

We will be arriving into Dover on the Ocean Princess on June 7. From experience -

- will the ship (a 'baby' Princess) arrive at the Western or Eastern (ferry) Docks?

- the ship is scheduled to arrive at 0500 (5:00 am), at approximately what time will the first of the passengers disembark?

Dover has two cruise-ship berths, one behind the other, & she's the only cruise ship scheduled for that day, so I see no reason why she won't berth at the cruise terminal, western end of the western docks.

She sails on another cruise same-day, so they'll be looking for prompt disembarkation.:)

You might get more accurate info from the Princess boards, but at Dover first passengers are normally off around 7am - 7.30 am, though earlier unassisted disembakation may be possible for those who have tight travel timings.

Does that include you? ;)

Thank you John Bull. We are trying to decide on a flight out of Gatwick at 9:40 (would like to make it) than a 12:20pm flight out of Heathrow. We can certainly handle our own luggage for 'earl off' and with a pre-arranged car service.

Forget the 9:40 out of LGW. You have to be at LGW for 7:40. Considering it's at least a 1 1/2 hour journey, you'd have to be on the road by 6am.

The LHR flight is doable, even if a little tight for my comfort level.

We made a 12:00 noon flight out of Heathrow we were at the airport by 8:30 am using the cruise lines transfers ..that said it all depends on when the ship is cleared & traffic

WOW! No way would we ever gamble on a 9:40 flight. Not only do you need 1 1/2 hours for the drive, that would be under ideal conditions. You are talking about driving around the outside of London during the morning rush hour when everyone else is also trying to do the same thing. The thing about London roads are that there are often more cars then roadway during rush hours..and this is particularly true on the M25. Am sure our English friends here will chime in on the subject.

Agree with everyone else. The M26/M25 junction and on all the way to the M23 will be a nightmare in morning rush hour. Even if you are doing this on a weekend, as JB says, the timings are just too tight. Go for the LHR flight.

Don't know a thing about which highway number runs between Dover and Ashford....previous posters indicated it is a 30 min. taxi ride. Should I be worried about traffic problems at 8:00 a.m.?

As Simon's answer :)

Thanks everyone ! after much debating we've decided.... (my DH is happy now, he hates it when I go back and forth with ideas!)....we will reserve the 10:00 train to Paris out of Ashford International. With our 4:00 a.m. arrival into Dover, we should be able get off at 8:00, take a pre-arranged taxi and get there on time.
