sharonlacey Posted May 14, 2012 #1501 Share Posted May 14, 2012 We were on a 11 night cruise on Expl. and the formal nights were 2nd and 8th. You can view the menu for dinner each day on TV.;)
mets550 Posted May 15, 2012 #1502 Share Posted May 15, 2012 We are booked for a 10-night cruise on Explorer in December and will be celebrating my husband's birthday. We've never been to a specialty restaurant, but thought it may be a fun way to celebrate a birthday and try Portofino's. However, we don't want to miss the lobster night in the MDR. Just wondering if any of the experts know when the formal nights (One of those should be "lobster" night) are scheduled on a 10-day cruise? On our seven-nighter over New Year's lobster night was the second formal night (night six). It is doubtful that it would be the first. You can also make two reservations for Portofino and, when you find out for sure which night is lobster night, cancel one of them. That is what we did on Liberty, since there were conflicting accounts as to whether night five or six would be lobster night (it varied based on whether the itinerary was eastern or wester caribbean for some reason). Enjoy!

PirateChK24 Posted May 17, 2012 #1505 Share Posted May 17, 2012 Does anyone have a favorite bar/lounge, or bartender, that they enjoy frequenting on the Explorer? This will be my first time traveling on Explorer, without anyone in my party in my age bracket (mid 20's), and was hoping to cozy up in a nice bar or lounge. Please do share your preferences! TIA! We are also in our early twenties and just sailed Explorer this past New Year's. While GF was getting ready in the room, I would often venture out to the Crown & Kettle Pub on deck five in the promenade. They have nice seating on the promenade itself as well as a genuine Irish pub feel inside and at the bar. The Schooner Bar is also one of my favorites, as it has great views, comfortable seating, and is adjacent to the casino. The Chamber is the nightclub aboard Explorer, so there is not much action there until later in the evening.

I will probably visit the night club, but I notice, the older I get, the more laid back the venues I frequent are getting. Thanks again for the feedback! Pool Bar and Sky Bar during the day....fun atmosphere...lots to look at. Aquarium Bar has salsa music in the evening. Fun. Dizzy's is a Jazz bar...great if you like jazz. Chamber is the disco....check out the Silent Party night....interesting. My fav bartenders are Troy, Shaka (sp), Andrae and Jimmy....not sure where they will be working when you cruise. mchin Posted May 18, 2012 #1512 Share Posted May 18, 2012 i apologize if this has been asked earlier in this thread....we are sailing as diamond members for the first time in July. Thanks! not really a lounge as much as an event...SHOULD be in the 19th hole section of the Viking Crown...and you'll have free wine and champagne...plus a 25% discount on beer and cocktails.... as far as fun bars....the aquarium/boleros area on deck 4 is nice...the VCL on EN this past week was usually popular...and i guess it is on EX as well....Crown & Kettle has many fans... Here we go - direct link from CLCP's website via NJ Turnpike (take Exit 127 from GSP for the Turnpike to Exit 14A) Keep right at the Toll Plaza & follow signs straight ahead for Rt. 440 South (sign for Cape Liberty on the poles) - upon reaching the entrance to CL - you will be making a left turn at the traffic lights to get in. http://www.cruiseliberty.com/dirpark.htm or use this - if you are using GSP all the way http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Atlantic+City&1s=NJ&2a=14+Port+Terminal+Boulevard&2c=Bayonne&2s=NJ&2z=07002&cid=lfddwid

138east Posted May 18, 2012 #1517 Share Posted May 18, 2012 Signage is there at the toll booths, but the area is huge and it's hard to spot. When you go through the toll booths, go straight ahead across the toll plaza onto a ramp that goes up and curves left. Stay to the right and bear right at every opportunity until to get to the traffic light at Route 440. Make a left, stay left, and make the next left onto Port Terminal Blvd.

Heidils Posted May 18, 2012 #1520 Share Posted May 18, 2012 Nope. Steel and iron infrastructure separates balconies. That is one thing I liked about Princess, you could remove or open the balconies. I loved the Jr. Suites as well, very nicely appointed! But the ship didn't have nearly as much to do as Royal ships. Although we enjoyed it very much. tikif6 Posted May 18, 2012 #1521 Share Posted May 18, 2012 Hello, I'm hoping to utilize the gym at least a couple of days on my 9niter, even if it's just 15min on the treadmill. Are there lockers & showers at the gym? As for the lockers are they secured with like a key or via coins, or is it just freely open? I'm not worried about theft or anything like that, but just wondering. If there are showers, do they supply towels? Thanks everyone!
Stratus22 Posted May 19, 2012 #1522 Share Posted May 19, 2012 Question? Is there a Grand suite on the EOS to avoid?? I am booked in 1568 and don't mind the location of it. Walking to and from the stairs is no big deal for us. GS 1324 is available for our cruise and many people have told me to switch to that cabin because of the location. Again, the walk is no big deal, plus I can use it after eating :). I don't want to kick myself in the rear if I stay or change cabins.
