Non-smoking NCL ship?????

Recommended Posts

Smokers concede to what? The vocal minority?

The rules are in place and the corporate officers have done their modeling and this is what works to meet their revenue requirements. A few people here suggesting things without significant facts in hand are not going to change things?

I reiterate, I am a non-smoker and spend a fair amount of time in the casino and have not witnessed half of the things people complain about on my 25 NCL cruises and 7 others.

You must be very tolerant of second hand smoke.

If the majority of people never complain how are things ever going to improve?

Concede to what!.... To smoking in the casino!! Smoking is decreasing and definitely smokers are the minority in society. They get their backs up when the MAJORITY ask for fair play. I have smoking friends, family and co-worker. I have definitely experienced the "smokey environment" Maybe I prefer not to on vacation. Nothing wrong with that.

Just because the "rules" are in place doesn't mean they are the best. What was good yesterday, isn't necessarily good today. They could easily make up the lost revenue (assuming that even happened) by doing away with all the smoking associated costs.

And that fact that you haven't "witnessed half of the things people complain about" just means you have been fortunate or have a greater tolerance to smoke. Don't kick someone else because they aren't like you. You should probably buy a lottery ticket.

You're asking the wrong person. Apparently Sparks1093 says this is in reference to a non-smoking ship losing revenue.

I guess you didn't see my point.. I was addressing your statement that non-smokers who are currently avoiding smoky places might make up for lost bar revenue from smokers. The lost bar revenue is not from non-smokers avoiding the bars (which are non-smoking), it's that smokers buy more alcoholic beverages than non-smokers in general. As far as I know there are no non-smokers avoiding bars that are non-smoking anyway. But if you fill a ship entirely with non-smokers, then bar revenue will go down because of average spending habits of smokers vs non.

If all this is true about smokers bringing in more money compared to non smokers it only stands to reason that they should build a ship where there are no smoking restrictions at all. Have smoking allowed in all rooms, balconies, casinos, dining rooms, lounges & bars just like the good old days. Seems like it should be a real money maker for some cruise line.

Somewhat like that German airline that wanted to start up in 2006 which allowed smoking in all seats. :D:D:D

I don't know about the rest of you "smokers" but I am so fed up reading these threads about how filthy it is (as someone referred to it) and dirty, disgusting, etc. Isn't there something more to your non-smoking pathetic lives than this topic??? Move on and give a crap about something that REALLY matters!

So there! I vented!

I guess I'll have to assume this data is correct.

However, revenue is generated from many sources on the ship and none of these other factors are being considered, i.e., specialty restaurants, gifts from the shops, photographs, soda cards, etc. I doubt anyone has analysed the spending habits of non-smokers in this regard. I still come back to the same point though, they could easily make up any lost revenue just by eliminating all the costs associated with smoking on the ship.

Or there could be balance, places for them and places for us. I know that when I was a smoker that was all I ever expected. Wouldn't it be great if we could incorporate that philosophy into every aspect of our lives?:)

I am a smoker and I solved the problem. I cancelled 3 cruises on Princess and told them why. I will now book more cruises on NCL and HAL. I voted with my wallet. IF and when ALL cruislines ban smoking in rooms and balconies, I'll find other ways to spend my vacation $$$$. Very simple!

I have no problem with them having a separate smoking area. They deserve it since they've paid they fare just like myself BUT the ships idea of being considerate about it is to have smokers in the rooms, which stink them up I then stick me in the room the following cruise after a quick cleaning. They also let them smoke on balconies which they believe doesn't bother a lot on non smokers. Again, this doesn't cut it.

Eliminate those two smoking areas & replace them with convenient smoking locations & most people could live with it.

Non smokers have all indoor public venues except the casino. ¾ of the outside decks and a cabin thoroughly cleaned of all evidence of a smoker that previously occupied it. Leaving the smoker about 10% (liberal) of all public places.

As a smoker you may think the cabins are thoroughly cleaned but it's not always the case. The residue continues long after you vacate the room & I have to live with the smell when you're long done. Cleaning is minimal at best even though you cannot smell the residue of past smokers, most non smokers can. Eliminating the smoking in cabins & balconies might reduce your 10 % to 8% but a lot of people would be happier.

I actually wasn't commenting to what you choose to believe or think but was answering the post directly above my statement of sharing a ship with public places for all, which is already done to the limit in my opinion.

My thorough cleaning comment was based on all the smoking vs nonsmoking threads on CC from non-smokers comments which are 95% of those that have never had an issue with the good job NCL does at cleaning.

Personally I don't share your beliefs and therefore not truly interested.
