Solo on Oasis?

Let's see not sail at all or sail alone. GO FOR IT.

There is so much to do on Oasis, you will not regret it. My manfriend and I went in June, but I would not hesitiate to go by myself. He often enjoyed doing his thing, and me mine. I met so many nice people on board when just doing my thing. Enjoy your trip.:D

I would be thinking the exact opposite. If I were to go solo, I'd want to find the biggest, busiest ship I could find! More things to do, more people, more fun! Why go on a smaller ship with less things to do where you'd keep running into the same folks over and over again, when you can go on a big ship with many different bars, pools, classes, excursions, theaters, shows... you name it!

Unless you are really looking for some total alone time and don't care, I think you'd have such better odds meeting people and having fun on the bigger ships. But either way, you'll be cruising! Have fun!

I have been solo on Radiance class for a short cruise, but haven't been on the huge Oasis at all. I guess that the sheer size of the ship intimidates me a little. Sometimes you feel more alone in a large crowd than with a cozy smaller group, you know? Just feeling a little unsure of the whole Oasis class size, too. I kinda like the smaller ships. But perhaps you are right, with so much to do I'll not even notice the magnitude of it all!

Biggest issue for a solo on these ships was the high surcharge and no senior discount, although I did snag a small military discount.

I would recommend using My Time Dining as a solo on these ships. I had a disasterous dining experience on the Allure, although I requested a large table I was put with another single lady, and we took an instant dislike to each other. The maitre d tried to find me another table with no luck. I ended up eating in the Windjammer or skipping dinner. After I put the comment on the card, RCL called me and were very upset at my treatment (seems to have happened a lot on Allure), so they gave me a $250 future cruise credit.

Other than that, ship was great, especially the casino:)

Definitely go solo...participate in Trivia and other activities and you will meet friends maybe others going solo, couples, families...in any case fun is a large part what you make of it. Even some of the crew can become friends for the cruise...they go out of their way, most at least, to make sure you are having fun.

SilentBob007,

Yes, the solo surcharge is almost as huge as Oasis! But it is the cost of the cruise, what can you do?

Franl24fan,

Sorry to hear that you had such a difficult time at dinner. At least it was nice of RCI to try to make it up with a future cruise credit.

Thank you for the encouragement, all!

Haven't sailed Oasis solo, but have sailed Voyager/Freedom class ships solo over 10 times and feel the larger ships and eastern/western routes are fine and had a great time. As another post mentioned, rather be on a cruise solo that no cruise at all.

First off, I often travel solo and wouldn't hesitate to do Oasis if the price et all was right. As people indicated it will probably be 200% on the surcharge.

My experience on Mariner and similar ships has been that you meet a lot of different people, but it's big enough that you might not ever see them again.

On smaller ships like Legend and especially Monarch you tend to run into the same folks more often.

I find good and bad things about both situations.

Hi all!

Yes I would, & am sailing solo on Oasis but have asked for a large table in the DR as I like to have company for dinner. I've gone twice alone on Freedom & also on NCL Epic.

Go on the rollcall for your sailing, attend the M&G, play trivia & do some ship's shore excursions, you'll meet lots of people.:D

It looks like an amazing ship with lots to do!

Jo,

I got a good deal on the Nov 26 sailing with a stateroom guarantee!:)

Booking a guarantee is not something that I do often either. It feels quite exciting to jump out of my comfort zone so much. I am a little nervous but sort of giddy about actually doing it!

Dorie, I sailed Oasis solo and it was GREAT! I joined the roll call for my cruise and met the best people. A bunch of us had met at a hotel the night before so I had 25 friends when I boarded the ship. I had a group of ladies from Hunstville and a group from Texas adopt me :) I still keep in touch with several of the folks I met and we plan on doing a reunion cruise September 2012. I found cruising solo, people are even more friendlier. Have a great time! Please come back and tell us all about it.
