Is there a place to leave hand luggage if we embark early?

Nope... sorry.

We generally find a table on the Lido Deck to park at and have our carry ons right there with us. We ofter sail with friends and occasionally ask them to watch our bags as we wander about.

Your cabin will be ready at about 1:30 so you won't have to wait that terribly long.

Sometimes you can sneak into the cabin and drop your bags but the stewards really don't like you to do it. They have to have their supervisor check the room off before boarding and they get scolded if there's anything in the room.

Some lines have a bag check, but not CCL - I keep suggesting it on my comment card, but apparently I'm the only one who thinks this is a good idea.

Seems to me it would be a great perk for upper level guests, if nothing else. All it takes is one person, a roll of tickets and a closed area (like the casino).

If you're going to check your bags why not just check your bags? I don't want to leave my carryon with Carnival, it has meds and valuables in it.

Our carryons fit easily under the bed. They do not hamper anyone's work. I wonder where that "scolded" info was obtained?? We don't "sneak". We walk in if the doors are open. It is just plain inconvenient to drag carryons to lunch if it is not necessary.

We travel light and use all carryon luggage. I don't want to leave my tote with meds, jewelry, valuables in it - just my rolling suitcase. It makes the lunch meal more enjoyable (and less congested) if the larger bags could be checked. Especially since CCL does not have the MDR open for embarkation lunch.

It's been my experience that on the vast majority of my cruises the fire doors to the cabins have been closed... not locked but closed. They don't seem to get upset if you drop your bags off early but I try to avoid it as the hallways are normally pretty well blocked by bedding carts and such...

If we board before the cabin is ready, can we leave our carryon bag somewhere while we eat lunch or explore the ship?

Thanks.

Unless you are toting more than a couple of shoulder/duffel bags each this really isn't a big deal. It's a multi-day cruise, what's the rush? If you want to avoid carrying your bags with you then don't arrive at the terminal util after 1PM. Byt the time you're through check in the cabins will be open, the Lido deck buffets still serving lunch(and not running out of any food:eek:) and plenty of waitstaff offering DODs after 1:30P:).

If you are carrying on soad/water it can get a bit heavy and awkward especially when trying to get some lunch. We usually just open the doors and introduce ourselves to the steward and drop off the bags and have never had a problem doing this. If CCL would get with the program and have a place to drop off bags when embarking like RCL and NCL has it would not be an issue.

Be careful doing this. Someone did not let their steward know and their stuff was assumed to be from the previous cruisers and got thrown away.

Dont put anything in there high value since it might not be locked up, the door is supposed to stand open until the cabins are ready.

I think it's just plain rude to open the fire doors and go to your room before it's ready. And most of the time now there is staff posted at these doors to keep you out. This is the case on RCI. And RCI does not have a place to drop off your carry ons until the rooms are ready-at least not on any of the 15 cruises I've been on with them.

Carry on's usually have meds and expensive cameras, jewelry so why would you even consider leaving it somewhere that is not safe.

The poor room stewards have enough to do getting all the rooms turned around without having passengers barging in to "drop off" luggage. What if everyone is doing this? What a nightmare. And is is not safe to do this-your room door will be standing open and things might get taken.

I usually try to make sure that my carryon isn't that heavy/bulky and I just take it with me. It's not like you have to watch it all day. I'm not checking mine with anyone.

We usually park in the lido buffett and take turns getting a plate for lunch. By the time we eat and walk around a bit, it's time to get in the cabin.

It depends on what you mean by carry-on bag.

I pack in what I consider a carry-on bag, which is a small piece of luggage on wheels. It contains my clothes, toiletries, etc. I check that with the porter at the terminal.

I also keep a bag with me (for me, it's a beach bag) that contains things I can't afford to lose, such as medications, camera, passport, credit cards, etc. I carry that in lieu of a handbag and it's not a big deal taking it with me for an hour or two until the cabin is ready.

Hope that helps. :)

There were 5 of us on this cruise we just had.....we got to the ship early and had 5 carryons to take care of till the rooms were ready. We took them all to the Encore Theater and I watched them while the others explored the ship. At 1:30 the rooms were ready and we put out luggage in the rooms and headed to the Pasta Bar for lunch....it was practically empty! There's no way i'd go through the fire doors to our room before they announced the rooms were ready....that's pretty inconsiderate. In the future though if we have so many carryons I think we'll just show up at the ship around 1pm and then by the time we're actually on the ship the rooms should be ready. :o

I AM SPECIAL. THE RULES DO NOT APPLY TO ME. I REALLY DO NOT KNOW IF LEAVING MY BAGS IMPINGE ON THE FRaNTIC EFFORTS OF THE STAFF TO PREPARE THE SHIP. (yes I am shouting).

We keep them right at our sides while eating lunch on the lido deck. 1 will stay with the bags while the others go grab their food. when the 1 st person gets back, the person that has been watching everyone's bag goes to get food. Then we do the same thing for exploring, 1 person stays with the bags and lets others go explore. Take turns and agree that everyone comes back by 1:15 to get their bags to take to the cabin.

I agree - the room stewards already have enough to do without navigating around people wandering up and down the halls. It's extremely rude to request "special" access.

I do remember on my first RCI cruise, "they" (can't remember who, but someone in 'official' capacity) said that once we boarded there would be a place to check our carryons if we wanted to leave them. So I asked some of the ship's personnel when we boarded where the place was to check our luggage, and every one of them looked at me like I had lost my mind! So, we just kept them with us and have expected to do so on every cruise since. It's a minor inconvenience, easily avoided if you don't want to do it. Just board later.

Even one small bag per person makes for a big problem in the buffet. I personally have no problem with my tiny bag, but others in my party will.

Good trick since they have the cabin areas blocked off until 1:30. Maybe I'm just unlucky enough to get on ships that do close off the cabins and you are not.

Hopefully the Splendor will be like all the other ships we have cruised on .... due to the limited number of cabins up on deck 11 they tend to get them ready quicker. Have I just been lucky or are others finding this as well.

Being Aussie's we can't travel with the same limited luggage that most of you can. we leave here in our spring, get to LA in autumn, cruise down the mexican riveria, return to LA for another week or so, fly to Fiji for another couple of days then return home. Our worst cruise packing is when we cruise from New Zealand as we pack snow gear for a weeks ski holiday then board a cruise to the pacific tropical islands. I am sure the cabin crew are amazed to see snow boards in our luggage lol
