mrchirpy Posted August 6, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 6, 2011 my wife and I are crusing out of NYC on the Carribean Princess New England/Canada cruise August 13th. What typically is the weather in Halifax at this time of year? How formal are formal nights? Is a jacket and polo shirt OK? Is there ballroom dancing or just a Lounge? We are not flying to port so are there any luggage restrictions? Thanks
CruiserBruce Posted August 6, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 6, 2011 Welcome to Cruise Critic! I would ask these questions on the Princess board, here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=197 You will learn a lot about Princess, your cruise and your ship. cb at sea Posted August 6, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 6, 2011 No luggage restrictions really....most lines state 200LBs per person!
paul929207 Posted August 6, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 6, 2011 Just keep in mind that whatever luggage you bring will be in your cabin for the duration of the cruise.
Colorado Kat Posted August 6, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 6, 2011 Luggage-wise, bring soft-sided things/dufflebags. They will stow nicely underneath your bed. Hard sided suitcases are tougher to store.
bbwex Posted August 7, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 7, 2011 You can easily get weather averages for Halifax online. Just search for weather in Halifax by month. Other than that, it should be comfortable during the days and cool at night. As for luggage, depending on the size of the closets, you might be able to get them in there, though they will take up a lot of space. Some lines will store your empty suitcases, but you will have to ask on the line's board about that. Even if you have solid-sided luggage, if it won't slide under the bed when it is zipped up, try opening it up, and sliding it under the bed with the top flopped open -- it worked for us. Cruise Girl Forever Posted August 7, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 7, 2011 Formal nights- If you want to for go the shirt and tie, I would suggest a drop needle tee under your jacket rather then a polo.
trish1c Posted August 8, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 8, 2011 A jacket & polo shirt will not cut it on Princess. You may be denied admission to the dining room. DH wore a tux but my dad only wore a dark suit & complained that he felt & looked underdressed compared to other passangers. Check the extended forcast for Halifax. Cruisin' Chick Posted August 8, 2011 #9 Share Posted August 8, 2011 A dark suit wouldn't normally be considered underdressing on formal night. I would switch a dress shirt for the polo shirt, and save the latter for smart casual nights.
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 8, 2011 #10 Share Posted August 8, 2011 Welcome to Cruise Critic. It will be warm in Halifax at this time -- remember -- all of us on the east coast are experiencing higher temperatures than normal. A dark suit for formal nights -- or a jacket, shirt and tie is also acceptable.
Kwaj girl Posted August 8, 2011 #11 Share Posted August 8, 2011 For historical weather data for most anywhere in the world: http://www.wunderground.com You can enter any date & get data for previous years - say you'll be in Halifax August 16, 2011....just enter August 16 2010, and 2009, and 2008...you get the idea. That will tell you what to typically expect.
Dayenu Posted August 8, 2011 #12 Share Posted August 8, 2011 How formal are formal nights? Is a jacket and polo shirt OK? Believe me, you won't be alone in a jacket that doesn't match your trousers, but I would bring a tie. Under the jacket it will look format even with a polo shirt. Is there ballroom dancing or just a Lounge? Lounges are used for ballroom dancing, the schedule will be left in the cabin every night. We are not flying to port so are there any luggage restrictions? Not really, some electric appliances are not allowed - I've seen questions about irons, this is a no-no.
