River Cruise in Europe

Recommended Posts

Labguides, only you can decide where you want to go, what are your interests, or your ancestry? We are doing the Castles on the Rhine and Danube from Amsterdam to Budapest in a couple of weeks, it is the most popular river cruise (and at 17 days it is also longer than most).

You will probably get more ideas if you post on River and Canal cruises under Special Interest Cruising and look at the Roll Call threads.

Labguides, we had always wanted to see Paris and kept putting it off for another year or two. Finally, we decided to take Viking's Paris and the Heart of Normandy river cruise in May of this year. It was fabulous. The cruise allowed us to see the major sights of Paris, plus Monet's Giverny (which I had always dreamed of visiting), Versailles, and the Normandy beaches and landmarks. Viking was excellent in all respects and we plan on taking another of their cruises in the future.

We have traveled quite a bit, but I think we were both a little intimidated by the thought of going to France on our own, since we don't speak the language. The cruise tour guides were wonderful and all spoke very good English. We also added on 3 days on our own in Paris after the cruise, and we found that so many people there speak English it wasn't a problem.

Decide what you really want to see, and then find the right itinerary for you. Enjoy!

Would like to do river cruise next late May/June in Europe.

We were on the Viking Cruise from Budapest to Prague and the St. Petersburg to Moscow - both of which we enjoyed tremendously!

(All started with a Viking Cruise from Beijing to Shanghai which got us hooked on Viking!)

We are going on the Viking Danube cruise from Budapest to Prague in November. I'd like some information and advice about seeing some of the Jewish sites in Budapest, Vienna and Prague, and am thinking about hiring a private guide for the day in each city. Do you have any advice? Thanks.

You are certainly able to hire private guides, but we have had no trouble navigating and getting around each of these cities.

With a little research on these boards, and consulting a couple of travel guides getting around is easy.

Just to get back to OP, we have traveled with Viking Moscow/St Pete,

Amsterdam/Budapest & Vienna/Black Sea/Vienna and have been most pleased with all. We have booked their Ukraine cruise for 2012.
