weltek Posted September 13, 2011 #26 Share Posted September 13, 2011 I don't care for the names at all. These names have no hint of prestige or luxury. I don't think in conversation these names even convey a sense of being innovative. Example: "Hi Jennifer - do you and your husband want to go on the Breakaway with us?" Sorry to offend - but it just sounds dumb. I agree I don't like the names, but want to point out they weren't looking for names that reflected "prestige or luxury." What they stated in this press release was exactly what they asked for in the contest: "best reflected the innovation of the brand along with the freedom and flexibility of the line's signature Freestyle Cruising and invoked the feeling that these ships will provide a "break" at sea from the stress of everyday life." Rare kjquilts Posted September 13, 2011 #27 Share Posted September 13, 2011 I'm glad they didn't choose Escape since it was one of the names I submitted. OK - now we have names please tell us where they are going !
mpk218 Posted September 13, 2011 #28 Share Posted September 13, 2011 I will be surprised if a response to this strong dislike of names is not forthcoming.. But I too will continue to cruise NCL , I just wont be able to tell friends and family the names of the ship :o
Rare kjquilts Posted September 13, 2011 #29 Share Posted September 13, 2011 Do you think that loyal passengers will breakaway and getaway to another cruise line? Not this loyal passenger - would take something pretty major to send me to another cruise line.

weltek Posted September 13, 2011 #31 Share Posted September 13, 2011 OK - now we have names please tell us where they are going ! Exactly! The names don't mean a whole lot to me. Kind of like the ugly exterior shape of the EPIC didn't matter to me in the grand scheme of things. It's the onboard offerings and the itineraries that matter to me! The ships could be called the Brussel Sprout and the Justin Beiber and it wouldn't impact my choice of ships.
buckirj1 Posted September 13, 2011 #32 Share Posted September 13, 2011 By any other name, a GettaBreakaway would smell as sweet. Oh well, the names are lame, but the new ships have a lot going for them anyway.
rajones007 Posted September 13, 2011 #33 Share Posted September 13, 2011 Oh well. The names aren't my cup of tea, but que sera sera. It won't be long before the dislike is long forgotten and people will be talking about those ships just like any other ship in the industry. "Ahhh .. the Breakaway ..." :o:eek:
figuremom Posted September 13, 2011 #35 Share Posted September 13, 2011 Not a fan of the names either. I wonder if an employee for another cruise line was working undercover for NCL to come up with these two as the finalists. I would have preferred Escape, Journey, or Bliss (the other 3 finalists). At any rate, all the other cruise lines will poke fun, and can you blame them? NCL Break-apart and NCL Get-Away. Maybe the creativity department of NCL didn't think that far. A cruise ship with Break in it? Not ideal.

HMK8273 Posted September 13, 2011 #37 Share Posted September 13, 2011 Names don't mean a thing except it is a mouthful to say. I think NCL screwed up on this one - not the plans of the ships - but they could have done better at picking names or coming up with something on their own. dznymom Posted September 13, 2011 #38 Share Posted September 13, 2011 Yuck. Breakaway. A British candy bar. A song by Kelly Clarkson. An exciting play in hockey. A cookie. None of these make me think of a luxurious cruise. Getaway sounds like a cheapie weekend offered by a timeshare company when you get suckered into doing the tour. I say again, YUCK! coaster Posted September 13, 2011 #39 Share Posted September 13, 2011 I fell sorry for the Cruise Directors in the future that have to say those rediculous names all the time...
sunflower47 Posted September 13, 2011 #40 Share Posted September 13, 2011 I am not thrilled with the names but it's out of my hands. Both winners, have a great time on the new ships in 2012 and 2013. Nothing more to discuss. Contest is over.

I think NCL screwed up on this one - not the plans of the ships - but they could have done better at picking names or coming up with something on their own. That's just it, they (NCL) probably already had them named and the first person to send in that name was the automatic winner!
Brighton Line Posted September 13, 2011 #44 Share Posted September 13, 2011 The names "Dumb" and "Dumber" must have already been taken. Just rolls off the tongue "Motor Vessel NCL Breakaway"... Not!
Seanote Posted September 13, 2011 #45 Share Posted September 13, 2011 OK, quiz time everybody! Why nid NCL name the new ships Breakaway and Getaway? Multiple choice here: a) Kevin Sheehan was away on summer vacation. b) the cool names like Titanic and Bismarck have already been used. c) NCL brought back Colin Vietch! d) Somebody is just on drugs. Let's have your choice! :D

oldguysandgalls Posted September 13, 2011 #50 Share Posted September 13, 2011 I hear....(maybe it's true...?) instead of cabins they have tents set up for the passengers to re-create that 'breakaway/getaway' feeling when one goes on a camping trip.
