donna5 Posted October 31, 2011 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2011 Haven't been on the board for a while. But while checking out the dinning venues on Princess for the Caribbean Princess, it say the MDR is only open on sea days and turnaround day for lunch. When did this happen and is it correct.:( Is there anything else that has changed that I may have missed?

paul929207 Posted October 31, 2011 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2011 Just off the Dawn Princess a week ago. The MDR was only open for lunch on sea days. It was closed on port days. I believe other ships have gone to this as well

Rare Coral Posted October 31, 2011 #5 Share Posted October 31, 2011 They experimented with this on a ship or two this past year and starting around August or so, this has been implemented fleet wide. Many of us are disappointed in this.
KirkNC Posted October 31, 2011 #6 Share Posted October 31, 2011 Thats too bad, if you don't get off the ship, you lunch options are not all that great without the MDR. Kirk
CruiseKing Posted October 31, 2011 #7 Share Posted October 31, 2011 Here's what I know. Hope this helps - DW and I just returned from the Ruby/Greek Isles cruise and the MDR was open for lunch on 2 of our 9 port days. We talked to a couple of head waiters and it appears to be on onboard decision by the F&B Manager on each sailing.
stoneharborlady Posted October 31, 2011 #8 Share Posted October 31, 2011 The buffet is no longer open 24/7.

Kirk I'm not happy about the MDR closed on port days either, but you have to admit that the Horizon Court is entirely different when everyone else is off the ship. The sad thing is that the Horizon Court has been "disappointing" on my last few cruises. On my last cruise, I went there one night for dinner and the "feature" at the carving station was meatloaf. What was even more disappointing was the rest of the items at dinner time were not any more appealing.

It's usually just about empty until after 1 PM when the tours start arriving back and even then it's not super crowded. We got off the Sapphire Oct 1st and the MDR were closed for lunch while in port, the ice cream and pizza bars were closed at 7:30 pm It must have been a real old crowd. They like to go to bed right after dinner. :D:rolleyes: The sad thing is that the Horizon Court has been "disappointing" on my last few cruises. We took some cookies and left them in the cabin for our "post-casino" bedtime snack. Worked out fine! You CAN'T starve on a cruise ship! Shalom, Andy,. So both the buffet & the IC were both closed after 11 or 12 midnight?
