Merion_Mom Posted December 12, 2011 #1 Share Posted December 12, 2011 Just got home from a great Girls' Getaway Weekend on the Monarch of the Seas. How do you like this one? The curfew for under-18 passengers was TWO A.M. At least we didn't have any children in our Quest - the four night before us was not so lucky. cruizinmimi Posted December 12, 2011 #2 Share Posted December 12, 2011 During our recent Mariner cruise (at Quest), a boy not over 10 was in the front row and he was part of our team. When the CD asked for 3 pairs of men's pants, the kid took off his pants:eek: The CD even stopped and said..."what is wrong with this picture"

Maryscooking Posted December 12, 2011 #4 Share Posted December 12, 2011 Hmm. I wonder why this was changed. Are there really parents out there demanding that their children be allowed to be out on the ship until 2am? And yeah - kids in Quest would likely put a big damper on Quest for me. I would hope the cruise director would do more than just make jokes about it, and actually ask that kids leave. I'm all about kids on the ship, but some things are just not necessary. The Viking Posted December 12, 2011 #5 Share Posted December 12, 2011 honestly do you not think that the Quest is for teens only? This is smilar to what we did as teens 40 years ago at age 18.

jebuell Posted December 12, 2011 #8 Share Posted December 12, 2011 I wish they would make the curfew 10:00 pm unless with a parent. I could see an 11PM or even midnight curfew since they ARE on vacation, too, and some of the scheduled teen events go on until that time... But I'm sorry, I don't get 1AM and I definitely don't get 2AM! What parent lets their child stay up that late???

Mack2 Posted December 12, 2011 #10 Share Posted December 12, 2011 Clearly, you are Merion Mom... Whoever this "appalled" person is would probably not appreciate you misrepresenting them. :p On a more serious note, I agree. Certainly kids under a certain age really should have realistic curfews aboard a ship, especially if the parents are NOT supervising them... I think the argument would apply to the 17y/o group... but what are 16-17 y/o's doing at that hour anyway? 2am wandering around the ship? Nothing for them to do but get in trouble. Rare Lionesss Posted December 12, 2011 #12 Share Posted December 12, 2011 The ships curfew maybe 2am. However Mom's curfew is dependent on what the reason is. For my DD Prom night 1am. All nights before we are in port............12am. Forget to check in every other hour..........10pm. We have never had to inflict the dent in her social life of the 10pm. curfew, thank heavens she is responsible. I just others would enforce the restrictions, so the kids are not riding in elevators, or ringing doorbells playing ding-dong-ditch all night. Also, if the girls do not walk her back to the cabin, she must call from Fuel, or the livingroom, and we walk her back. Safe travels. Havingfun2010 Posted December 13, 2011 #13 Share Posted December 13, 2011 Hmmm, I was just thinking. I go go bed at 10:00, but on vacation, I go to bed at around 1:00 to 2:00am. When I was a teenager, many years ago, I hung out with friends late into the night, provided that my parents knew where I was. Hmmmm. I have teenagers, but I'm not going to say they are angels, just that they are teenagers, just like I was at one time. Hmmmm. Lets see, 16 year olds, stay home by themselves, drive ( in many states), work, and manage school. They go out past dark, hang out with friends. I'm not really seeing the time of the curfew as a problem. What the problem is the behaviour. But the curfew does not solve that, and will not stop that. Just think about that. So while the 18 year old can enjoy the evening, a 17 year old can't chill out at the pizza stand? Or play basketball out on the deck? Most of the kids are not the problems, but just like in your neighborhoods at home, you will have the kids, you wish would just move away. I for one think if I can be up past my normal bed time, than maybe some teenagers should have some slack, and provided that they are well behaved, enjoy themselves a little too.... Tootsiesmom Posted December 13, 2011 #14 Share Posted December 13, 2011 Just returned for the Allure of the Sea and it is clearly stated in the daily paper that the curfew for children under the age of 18 is 1:00 a.m. There is plenty for them to do in the “Teen Club” and it’s reasonable for them to have some extra freedom. The ship did a great job of seeing that with 6000 people this was not abused. As for the Quest it is also stated that this is an “adult only" entertainment, as is the comedy show. It’s simple to have people entering to scan there seapass cards and only over 18 allowed. Bottom line folks is, if parents can’t figure it out that the child doesn’t belong there, the ship should enforce the age limits. As a grandparent taking her 9 & 14 year old grandchildren on vacation, I found that the freedom allowed the 14 year old made it a special time for him. I felt that he was well watched, and believe me, security knew who the children were, and who they belonged to, yet he was given a truly great vacation. I might add that I’m NOT an easy going, let the kids be kids grandmother, but it still fell with in what I thought was appropriate.
CruisinGerman Posted December 13, 2011 #15 Share Posted December 13, 2011 The short cruises out of Florida have a lot of Latin passengers, both from Florida and other neighboring countries. It is part of their culture, and perfectly acceptable, to stay out later. Here in Madrid, Spain, where we live, a matinee of a movie is at 7 p.m. and the evening performances are at 10 p.m. and midnight. It is very common to see school children on the subway in Madrid at 11:30 p.m. and even later. The department stores don't close here until 10:00 p.m. Dinner is about 10:30 p.m. RCCL caters to many cultures and not just to Main Street, U.S.A. Kind regards, Gunther and Uta

will773 Posted December 13, 2011 #17 Share Posted December 13, 2011 I'm going to have to disagree, respectably, with everyone. Being 16 (turning 17 this weekend), I have a different perspective on things. My past two cruises, Navigator and Allure, both this year, I was up every night at least till 2 am. I may be in the minority, but I am well behaved, don't party, and I'm generally by myself wondering around the ship anyway. I don't go to the teen clubs and don't disturb anyone else. I don't see why I should have to be in bed just because of my age. 10 pm curfew!? You've got to be kidding!
alexxandraa397 Posted December 13, 2011 #18 Share Posted December 13, 2011 Sounds to me like most of you guys do not like kids to begin with and just think of them as a nuisance, so as a solution, don't go on Royal Caribbean ships that cater to FAMILIES. Remember that children under 18 means 17 and 11 month old too. Saying that a 17 year old has to be in by 10pm is ridiculous. They could be in college already! If your child is indeed a CHILD then yes, maybe a 10 pm curfew would be acceptable. But as HavingFun2010 said, older teens have many adult responsibilities at home, and those 18 and under still pay the EXACT same amount to cruise, so why, if they can be responsible, should they not be allowed the full time adults are allowed? If I am going to be imprisoned in my cabin after 1am, I want to be reimbursed for the time I am not allowed to enjoy my cruise vacation. I would also like to add: that by 1am, all the drunken adults are probably even more rowdy than the teenagers hanging out having fun.
PH8 Posted December 13, 2011 #19 Share Posted December 13, 2011 I don't think people think 17 or even 16 years old should not be allowed to stay out that late.......at least,I think it's ok........its the UNDER 18 part......that could mean a 10 or 12 year old.......2am is a bit much for them, dont ya think?? Maybe the curfew should apply to a younger age....at 17 I already graduated from high school and stayed out that late sometimes. CruiseEm Posted December 13, 2011 #20 Share Posted December 13, 2011 As I posted on previous thread as a teen I babysit until 12 pm some nights. Bakincakes Posted December 13, 2011 #21 Share Posted December 13, 2011 Think about it...if Mummy and Daddy have to go back to their cabins to watch the kids they aren't in a bar or the casino making $$ for RCI. So they create a late curfew for the kids so parents can do their own thing while RCI crew do the babysitting.:(

Rare LittleMissMagic Posted December 13, 2011 #23 Share Posted December 13, 2011 I think the problem is that there is a big difference between 12 and 17. There is not a big difference between 17 and 18. When do kids become responsible and mature? It's different for everyone. I don't think people should expect the cruise ship to parent everyone's children. Yes, people go on vacation to escape real-world responsibilites such as a job... but if you want to escape being a responsible parent, then don't bring your children (btw, I have nothing against children onboard. I am a big fan of well-behaved children.). Now, the cruise ships are very strict about the curfews, though. I remember when I was on the Grandeur a few years ago, I was a "one-punch" (can gamble, can't drink) adult, but my sister was still a "two-punch" (can't gamble, can't drink) minor. We were up in the lounge with some friends, and it had just turned 1 am (the "Junior Cruiser Curfew" on the ship). Security came around, doing their Junior Cruiser check. My sister played it smart and told them goodnight as she headed back to the room. Then they came and asked us remaining for our names. I told him my name, and he looked me up in a little face book he had and said, "Okay, you're alright." But there was a kid who was 17; security looked him up and said "goodnight." That was the second night. After that, I watched security escort minors to their rooms - some 12, some 17. I thought it was so weird that they had a stack of stapled paper with our names and photos on it. There were only 100 minors onboard that cruise, and I'm guessing they had everyone 21 and under's face in the pamplet. But if you're wondering what minors are doing up at 2 am on the ship... they're hiding from security. Apparently, it is a fun little game to play. If you want to find a bunch of them, look under the staircase on the second floor. :D

Cruiselines can't pick and choose. They make their rules based on past experience. Somewhere along the line some other kid or kids probably ruined it for you. By the way, I seriously doubt the majority here support a 10 pm curfew just like the majority don't hate kids and probably have some of their own.
