Is Oasis REALLY That Great?

We were recently on Jewel and took advantage of the reduced deposit/OBC offer to book our next cruise. We just booked "anything" since we can easily change it. We ended up with a September 2013 7 night on Oasis. I really had no intention of taking this cruise, but, am now wondering if we should give it a whirl and see what the hub bub is all about.

Or switch it to something on one of the smaller ships (which we do like; Radiance Class, especially).

What does everyone think?

It really comes down to what you like in cruising. I love the Oasis class. We will be back on the Allure in a few weeks and this will be my sixth week on those great ships. No other ship offers what they do in dining options, entertainment and the WOW factor. You have to experience the ship to realize how great they are.

We sailed on her in October and I loved every minute of it, I am a cruise addict though, we've sailed from Monarch thru Oasis and I can honestly say I found Oasis less crowded (with the exception of parade time but that was for about 10mins), I noticed the windjammer always looked full but there are so many other dining options it really didnt matter, saying that, I would not rush to sail Oasis again as the entertainment is important to me and it would not have changed but we are planning to go on Allure in 2013 since we already have our cruises booked for next year. Happy Cruising.

I think it's an experience that an avid cruiser should do once. But my overall impression after sailing the Allure 2 weeks ago was NEVER AGAIN! (i'm sure most people will disagree with me, based on the reviews of the Oasis class ships on CC).

We loved it but we also recognize that it's not for everyone. You won't know until you try it. If you're worried about crowds, don't give it a thought. RCI's neighborhood design has pretty much solved ship crowding issues. They may have revolutionized ship design. You will find that the Oasis class is a ship intensive itinerary as opposed to port intensive. I recommend everyone try it at least once. As a side note, from talking to crew on other ships, they said that RCI pretty much scooped their top employees from other classes when the Oasis came out and were doing the same for Allure.

Go with an open mind :) She's a wonderful ship and everyone should cruise on her or Allure once. We loved them both! Modern marvels of technology. I don't know how many people say that they did not want to sail on Oasis or Allure and came back with a much different opinion.

Make up you own mind instead of letting someone else determine how you feel about her. If she' not your cup of tea then at least you checked her out for yourself :);) ENJOY!

Yeah, she is that good. Ought to sail Oasis at least once, just to say you did. My only complaint on Oasis, the ventilation system in Bolero's isn't stout enough to deal with the smoking. Loved the Central Park balcony, loved everything else.

She's a beautiful ship. Whether you love her though just depends on your desired cruise experience. I really liked her, but $$$ is important to me too and I did not get enough enjoyment from the ship to justify the usually quite higher pricing. However, if I caught another del, I would not hesitate to book again.

....we are seniors. We decided to go once to see what a mega ship would be like & one of my daughter-in-law wanted us to do a reconisence.

I LOVED it BUT....

we made sure we had show reservations & saw a show everyday....fabulous !

we originally had a balcony room & I kept reading on these blogs how small they were. About a month before we left, a 'suite guarantee' catagory came up so we upgraded. We were given a JS on the hump with an extra large balcony.

we belong to Club Royale so we played a lot in the casino. Host was fabulous. Free drinks in there, a bottle of wine to the dining room & I hit a $2400. jackpot !

we had breakfast a Johnny Rocktes on the patio & 'people watched' people on there balconies :O)

we had lunch in the windjammer I sat next to the window where you are at the same level as the zipline & watched people as they left the paltform....some needed 'encouragement !

we went to the character breakfast eventhough we did not have kids with us & thoughly enjoyed it !

we had the great roast beef sandwiches in central park that people talk about. What I didn't know was that at the same place, they make custom chopped salads & have a huge basket of bags of assorted potato chips you can help yourself to !

we got their iphones that not only let you call each other but have a built in gps so you can just 'see' where the other person is. It also has the 'cruise compass' in it so you do not have to carry the paper around.

Needless to say.... I cannot wait to go back. It is a bit pricier than the other cruises & I will not got back without a JS again ! so.....it will be awhile :O(

As everyone else says, I think it depends on what you want most out of a cruise. My two favorite ships are Oasis and Majesty. Odd, huh? I loved Oasis because there were so many options--places to eat, things to do, etc. I rarely felt crowded, and it was just a cool ship. I didn't really care about the itinerary, but the ports were fine.

I love Majesty because it's small and homey feeling and I like the itinerary and I like its dining options too. Obviously, they are at complete opposite ends of the spectrum.

I think Oasis is something anyone who likes cruising should try at least once. Go in with an open mind and just remember you're on vacation! If you go in thinking you're going to hate it, why bother?

We said we never would sail on a ship that size. Friends of ours convinced us to try it. We did and really loved her. We did make reservations for all the shows before we boarded and 2 speciality restaurants as well. We had 6249 passenagers on board. Never any crowds any where. We would love to sail on her again in the future.

Try it. You won't be disappointed.

I´m not that big of an Oasis promoter and I like the Radiance class best just as you do.

Now having said this I say try Oasis. It´s a great ship and fabulous experience. I wasn´t sure about it before going but I truly liked it. However now that I´ve done it I´m more likely to go back to other ships. Well actually I´ve been back to smaller vessels and my upcoiming bookings are on smaller ones as well.

I would eventually go back to Oasis for the ship experience, but as it´s sailing the Caribbean and I have no interest in that at all I´m not sure when that will be.

We love cruising with a balcony and the beautiful ocean to watch. The Oasis was not cruising for us but like a vacation in a high rise building. We tried it once, didn't like it for many, many reasons, the very long walk to anything, the lack of sea views, those crazy inside balconies that are nothing but glorified promenade rooms, etc. The Freedom will be the top size for us with the Jewel and Radiance our favorite. The life style of the Oasis and Allure seems to be you must stay busy 24/7 and for us that is not what cruising is about.Glad we all have choices.

I echo the above advice. If you are hesitant and can travel any time, pick the dates that you get the best deal. That way the extra "Oasis" cost will be minimized. I would think most likely you will not be disappointed. We were not. For similar cost we would do Oasis class again. But if the bigger class is still more expensive next time we book, we have no problem going back to Freedom size.

If you like cruising you should try it so you know what it is like. Then, as others have said, decide based on your own experience.

We are going on Allure in May. Does she have these as well, and are they easy to get? Could someone tell me more, please?

That's what I said after sailing on the Oasis last yr. The more I thought about it, the more I liked it. You can see from my sig that I'll be on the Allure in September.

I don't know about Allure, but on Oasis last week they were still advertising them on Day 2, so I guess they didn't go that fast. Don't forget they cost $25 (or $30?, I forget) for the week, but you need two to be very useful. So it is really $50.

Thanks! Since I'm a single mom traveling with 2 teens and a tween, it might be useful to get them despite the expense. That way we could occasionally do our own thing onboard and I could still keep an eye on them, so to speak. Perfect! (IF they have them on Allure, obvs.)

Keep in mind that if you lose or break them, the expense is rediculous. Can someone chime in hear about the amount? I heard it was like 1K

There is a $1,000 charge if you lose them.

They only work on the ship so they advised us to leave them in our room when we went ashore. They also provide chargers & you do need to charge them every night.

I would definitely get them again. I always where pants with pockets so my hubby & I felt they would be safe since they would only be in our pockets or in our room.

I LOVED the gps feature the most.

On other ships we would go over the newsletter in the morning & decide what we were going to do. If one of us changed something, we would run back to the room & leave a note. I knew the Oasis would be to big to let us do that.......that is why those phones are so great.

Curious as to why never again?
