Getting access to cabin early to drop off luggage

Recommended Posts

Wow that's a little unrealistic- ten minutes????? You have to remember they have to change the sheets on the beds, run the vacuum, dust the furniture, clean the bathrooms, place clean towels etc. Ten minutes?? I think not! And some rooms are suites that are much bigger and take more time to clean.

Have no idea how long it takes to change over a cabin but remember steward does have one or two assts.

Hi Fellow cruisers: We completed our 10th cruise on carnival before they had platinum in 1999 and have never heard of this benifit. We have done this on earlier ships for many years but since the security issue came in to play many of them close the fire doors now. We use to drop our carry on and go directly out. Have seen some carrying their entire luggage group and place in cabin leave and close door behind them . Well the room stewards will open the door after they leave and often their luggage and some loose things they place on the bed etc. are just there for the passer by. Don't you think if you had early checkin in your rooms as a benefit they wouldn't publish this .Being platinum, doesn't give us the right to violate there orders. If they want to do something provide escort to your rooms when early boarding as we have had on several other lines. We take our carry on to lunch put under our table and shortly after its time to drop it off. It's going to be a nice 8 days on our ship and lets all leave our troubles, dislikes at the pier. I agree. Smoking in someone's face would impact another passenger's enjoyment. However, putting your bags in your room early really has no bearing on anyone else. What's the worst that can happen in this scenario, being asked to please wait until the allotted time, I would think.

Exactly right.

The rules are only guidelines. Do what you want. Just like I will smoke where I want because after all they are just guidelines.

Then you are ignorant and selfish. If Carnival won't, I WILL tell you to stop smoking. However, I don't care if you put your luggage in your room before 1:30pm though.

See. Here's one already. A "demander" or "orderer."

I won't say all that I want to, but you as the ME ME ME generation feel they can do whatever and the h--l with anyone else. If the doors are closed, there is a reason.

I hope that someday when I grow up, but already an older person, I will get to be as important as you are. You have no consideration for the stewards cleaning etc. Some day I hope your bubble bursts and you get to where the rest of us are. Go ahead, I know you will flame me!

Quite agree that if you found your cabin a mess, no way do you leave your stuff there.

Clearly the cabin hasn't been cleaned/processed for the new arrival.

never found the large doors shut (only at dining rooms, too early to open for breakfast yet)

What irks me is Carnival's unrealistic statement that cabins won't be ready until 1:30/whenever when time and again

I go to check and discover stewards twiddling there thums and if you ask the guy if it's ok

he says sure go ahead and put yet stuff in there -at around noon.

He's had his cabins ready since 11.He has 20 cabins to attend to and if u remember everyone last cruisers was out by 8:30.

Stewards spend maybe 10 mins. per cabin that's all

I know they are efficient but that doesn't seem to much time to change sheets, clean bathroom, vacuum etc.

Like my other post in this thread , let me repeat that our last cruise the cabin wasn't even ready at 1:30pm. So I guess YMMV.

our first cruise, we did not know about dropping off luggage early, or not doing it. i had barely found CC before our first cruise.

someone had mentioned to me that i could drop our carry ons off in our cabin and go have lunch even if our cabins were not ready.

dh & i went and found our cabin, and while there met our cabin steward. now perhaps he was just being nice, but he told us we could leave our bags there, no problem-it was our home now and we could do whatever we chose with our bags. i will say this-i probably would never do that again as all the cabin doors were standing open. we actually walked in to the cabin next to ours to see what it looked like before anyone "moved" in. so i would think your carry ons would be much more secure on your person.

i cannot recall any doors being closed this time. so if doors are closed, as long as there is no sign stating differently, i would think it would/should be okay.

We just keep our bags with us now.

Could not have said it better myself.

I also don't understand why CC people are so uptight...

I don't think it is people being uptight, just not wanting to be rude. You all do realize they shut the doors because they are cleaning the room out from the last group that just left right? Hotels have check in times for the same reason. The ships typically sail full so unlike a hotel, there is a 99% chance that your room you booked has to be cleaned and prepaired for you. That task has to be huge! Now throw in those people that had to arrive early and are too lazy to tote their carry on around. You really turely cannot see how people wanting into their room early could be an issue? Unless you all, unlike myself, have a magic crystal ball that lets you know that the rooms in your area are done......???? But this is just comming from the uptight guy that also waits his turn in line:rolleyes:

Firstly, let me say that I don't care if you are 'platinum', 'milestone' or have done 151 cruises with Carnival, just like you don't care how many countries I have travelled to, how much money I make or what my middle name is ...

The cabins are available to EVERYONE at the same time, that is when the CREW is ready.

If you think you can 'just' drop your stuff off and it won't affect anybody then you are dreaming. If you think "oh well, I paid for this vacation so I'm gunna do it" then you are a jerk and if you think that you are different, and the rules don't apply to you, then you are part of the reason that society has degraded to the point where every little thing has to be controlled and policed.

The more people who 'sneak' to their cabin to deposit their luggage and interupt the staff, the better the likelyhood that carnival will one day just say "OK, no boarding until 2pm"

It won't matter what coloured card you have then, you will be fresh outta luck and sulking at the port.

I would think the crew have a hard enough job turning the ship around and preparing cabins for the next intake. That few hours they have, when they get peace from guests, must be something they value. It would be total bad manners and disrespect to the crew if nothing else. Give the guys a break and leave them in peace to do their job. Sure they'll smile at you, its what they are trained to do - but come on... is it REALLY that hard to have a drink on deck and wait until the doors officially open...

Dont be rude, be good!

this is beautifully stated. How hard is it to give others a bit of consideration? And of course the stewards smile and say it's fine. Can you imagine the posts and complaints on here if they did anything else?

It's obvious that those who sneak to their rooms are not going to stop so the rest of us just have to hope that the cruise line doesn't change the boarding time to later in the day because folks can't wait until the rooms are ready.

I know...I know...I know! Let's all say the he!! with it and bust butt to our rooms @ 11:30! Now it might interfere with the cabin guys trying to get our rooms ready.....but who gives a rat's behind as we paid our good money and nobody and I mean nobody is going to tell us what we can or can not do!

Wow! Some people just think they are above the rules!:D

Have no idea how long it takes to change over a cabin but remember steward does have one or two assts.
Its amazing how many people don't communicate with their cabin stewards

I often ask where there from, how many kids, how many cabins there responsible for, how long it takes them,

this is your 3rd. contract? how long do you go home for?

you guys don't relate to these fellow humans in this way? Perhaps if you did, you'd find out how their system works

...now there's an idea you dont want to follow up on

you just cart your little carryon all over Lido for 2.5 hours dont go down and ask a question

and even if you do leave your bags, don't ask if its ok to close your door behind you

Thumbs up for the last few posts. No one is above the rules. Give the cabin stewards some respect please. They work harder than most of us do at our jobs for a lot less money and very little time off. Of course they're going to smile and nod... But inside they're probably NOT thrilled. Can you imagine if half the passengers tried to get to their cabins early? Bedlam, chaos, etc. is it REALLY that hard to wait a couple hours with your carryons?

go to a land based resort where you room is not ready until 3 in afternoon, you will not get the key to the room until then. No getting in early. You are told ahead of time what time the room is ready just like we are told rooms will not be ready until 1 30. Them the rules and rules are put in place so people can do thier jobs and do them properly. Can you imagine the number of complaints that would come because there was a hair on the floor... You have all week to make small chat with your room steward, they have a time frame to get everything ready please don't distract them, they have enough to do under a lot of presure to please the platiums to the newbies.

if your carry ons are pain in the butt to carry around check them in.

ok next cruise everybody go past the closed doors, find their cabin, ask the steward all kinds of questions and then drop your bags off.

That shouldn't hold them up much. Maybe they'll change the time to 2:30pm.
