Which rules do you wish the cruise line would enforce?

Dont let it bother you. Why worry about what others wear?

Bet you dont purchase any pictures with those folks in them anyway.

Not trying to start an arguement but have learned why sweat the small stuff.

I agree. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. We just got off the Dream. Last sea day we slept later than usual and didn't get out on deck until about 9:00 a.m. No chairs on the Lido deck, but plenty "saved." we went to the aft on the panorama deck and found 2 loungers. We never sat in the aft area before, but now we will chose that first. Much more relaxed atmosphere and convenient to everything.

I know from experience that it all depends on who is on that ship that trip. With that said we have had problems on most of our cruises with people smoking in non-smoking areas. (Last cruise on Liberty all of lideo was non-smoking and people would sit at tables with the sign and still smoke!) Also all cabins are now non-smoking and with our luck 2 doors down they decided they didn't care and thru the air vents all day and night came their smoke! *(but they paid the fine)

The other problem is chair hogs, when they drop their stuff off before 8am and don't come back till after 12. Carnival please enfore this.

I think if CCL won't enforce it they should allow us passengers to enforce it. Have a box on deck for personal belongings...if after 30 minutes they are still on the chair we can put them in that box...let it be known to all cruisers that other cruisers have a right to move their stuff...they do it now because they know that CCL won't do anything about it...maybe they would stop if they knew we would all do something about it.

Not that we don't anyway:eek::D

My biggest pet peeves are smokers who smoke in nonsmoking areas and unruly children, especially in the pool area. They usually are quieter if you hold their heads under water a couple of minutes.

:DLOL!

Seriously, unruly kids (and their parents who arent watching them) are the worst, especially around the pool area and in the hot tubs. When my kids were younger I felt as though I had to sit at the edge of the pool with them rather than nearby in my chair just because of the other crazy, unattended kids in the pool, meaning that their parents were no where to be found! I want kids to have their fun, but not at the expense of me or my kids.

This has been a problem on every cruise line I've ever been on, even Disney, but it wasn't as bad on Disney because a lot of the kids go in the kids clubs.

I am kind of torn on the kid thing. Unruly is a very vague term. If you mean the kids that are running around and doing cannonballs every 2 seconds I agree with you, but if you mean the kids that spash someone because they moved around then I disagree. Last year my husband and another cruiser got in quite a vocal argument because my daughter was walking on the outskirts of the pool and when she walked by a group of older french people I guess her feet splashed them a little and they freaked out on her...really? You are in a pool and afraid to get wet? Now if she had jumped it I would have been OK with it because you are not supposed to jump, but she does have a right to walk and swim in the water.

The reason none of the parents are around is the chair hogs are saving all the chairs by the pool!:D

I'm with ya on this one. I dont agree with the "Chair Hoggers" but I know from personal experience what it's like to have my stuff moved from my chair and to say the least I was just a tad ticked off. We never travel in big groups and it's usually just my husband and myself, so I dont consider two chairs left so that we can grab a drink or a bite to eat "hogging". So when you get back to your chair and your stuff is thrown down and someone elses "stuff" is on it it does tend to piss you off. Fortunately, we are not the type of people to make a fuss about this sort of thing, but I know some people who would have had plenty to say to the person sitting on the chair that used to hold their stuff. Add alchohol to the mix and it's a recipe for disaster!

I have lots of peeves-sorry , let me rant for a second

1. kids in hot tubs. If they were truly HOT, they wouldn't be safe on the kids anyway, but they are not. So it's basically a gloified bubble machine, that kids pee in.

2. People who complain about smokers. If you see a smoker smoking in the wrong area, tell them. If you come up on a smoker, who is in the right area, then don't friggin complain! or cough! or gag!.

3. Drunks. I don't mean buzzed, I mean fall on the floor, stupid, barfing drunks.

So, thanks for letting me rant for a moment. I'm done, oh and what do I do about these things when I see them happening-I have a cabin I can close my door. THere are plenty of levels of a ship, and I can always just get up and move the cr%p off chair hogs' loungers to pass the time:D

Yes, but you are not talking about the chair hogging we are talking about. If you go to grab a drink or grab a bite to eat your stuff won't be sitting there longer than 30 minutes or so...I am referring to those that put there stuff out at 6:00AM and go back to bed or wherever they go and don't come back until 11:00...or the ones that save a row of 10 chairs and sit in one of them and tell everyone that tries to sit there that they are saved...guess what...I don't have a problem with 1 or 2, maybe even 3 or 4 but 10 is NOT gonna happen. Sorry...I shouldn't have to get up at the crack of dawn on my vacation to get a seat so I can watch my kids swim in the pool.

And I do have to ask this question...and if chair hogs would answer this for me I would appreciate it...why do people feel the need to sit around the pool fully clothed and just sit there, or cover up with towels and take a nap...I can see if they wanted to get a tan or something, but really...there are so many other places to sit it doesn't really seem fair to those that either need to watch their kids or actually want to use the pool...

NO SMOKING in clearly designated NON smoking areas!

DING DING DING DING DING! Winner.

Chair hogs aren't doing anything wrong. This is all about the cruise line being too cheap to get more chairs.

MDR attire- Sail on HAL. If you sail on a low class line, you will get low class attire. Simple as that.

3. Drunks. I don't mean buzzed, I mean fall on the floor, stupid, barfing drunks.

THIS! I know the bartenders are trying to make $$$, but for heaven's sake ... some people need to be CUT OFF! If you cannot stand up or speak, it's time to be cut off and call it a night. This, above all, is my biggest pet peeve.

2nd is smoking in non-smoking areas.

3rd is (I'm a germaphobe) is people (yes, adults and kids alike) reaching WITH THEIR HANDS to get stuff off the buffet. That grosses me out. Workers should enforce using the tongs that are provided. Further, EVERYONE getting in line for the buffet should have to use hand sanitizer before handling all the tongs. Don't wait for Noro to break out ... do it for every meal, every day. Who knows when the last time some people washed their hands. EWWWWWWW ...

If they are going to have a rule they need to enforce it. If they aren't going to enforce it then do away with the rule.

Well said, that is it in a nutshell!

I agree with these two posters!:D

I think the reason why the rules aren't always enforced is because the cruise lines don't want to hassle their customers, they know that if they get too tough with policing their rules that they'll offend some customers and they won't come back. That's why I believe that a lot of the cruise lines have changed the rules instead of enforcing them over the years. Cruises are more casual now because the majority of people want it that way or they wouldn't have changed the rules. I'm not saying this is right, I'm just guessing this is why.:p

I personally just go with the flow. I follow the rules because I choose too. If others don't it is sometimes annoying but I've never had a cruise ruined because of other people's behavior...at least not so far! When things get to the point that I don't enjoy cruising anymore, then I just won't do it. But for the last 40 years nothing has ever ruined one of my cruises..so I'm good!:D

OOOHHH GOOD ONE!!!! It is really gross, especially when people let their kids touch the food. It's one of the reasons why we stay away from the buffet lines. DH wont go near them as he is a major germophobe. Actually one of the things that we really liked about the Carnival cruise we went on to Europe a couple of years back was that there was minimal buffet areas. We really enjoyed the deli/grill where you could get custom sandwiches, and there were plenty of chefs making omelettes in the morning so you could get your eggs fresh.

Yes, but it is not always the bartenders. And even if they do cut them off, they could have a few bottles from Bon Voyage in their room or just have someone else go buy them the drink...I think there is no to avoid this.

And as far as the buffets...I have been on quite a few cruises that had hand sanitizer right at the entrance and had people standing there to tell people to use it...

Ahhhh, but it's not an "enforced rule"! They cant force people to use hand sanitizer, it's just recommended. I have seen people walk right by the guys squirting hand sanitizer into peoples hands. The only exception I have seen to this is on Disney Cruise line, but not in the food area, it was in the kids clubs. In order to get in and out they had to stick their little hand underneath a dispenser and rub their hands together. The attendents/security made sure that every single kid did it, without exception. I think that Disney had a problem with Norovirus a few years back and that's when they began implementing this. It was the ONLY ship where I saw it mandated.

Really, what would be the point to FORCE someone to do it...not to sound disgusing but you could sanitize your hands and pick your nose or scratch your unmentionables 15 seconds later...

The only way to fix the buffet problem would be to have people serve everything with the tongs or spoons or whatever so no one without a glove on never touches it...we know that isn't going to happen, although it sure would be nice;)

This comes down to two minds of thought IMHO:

1. I abide by rules that I was given so we can all be equal in a social enviroment and all have an equal shot at fun , why shouldn't everyone else abide and why won't these lazy tools hired by the cruiselines enforce these rules

2. Arm everyone with a Buck knife and a bottle of whisky when they board,,its time to party and fight. We don't need no stink'in rules.

We aren't sun lovers so chair hogging has never affected us....same goes for kids in the pool. Haven't seen too many people smoking in the non smoking areas (though the stench in the casino on the Dream makes me feel that should be a non smoking area). What REALLY grossed us out on the last cruise was this guy who clearly had just gotten out of the pool and without drying off or puttin on a shirt went directly to the buffet and was filling a plate....water dripping off him......it turned my stomach. I'm pretty sure this is against the rules right?

Yes, unless he was outside at the grill. I am surprised no one said anything to him, this is one of those rules that I have seen enforced on more than one occasion just because the wet floors are such a hazard to everyone...not to mention when people sit on the seats they get soaked through...
