Packing for world cruise

good question. I have also wondered. Our longest so far has just been two weeks and I have pack the same for our past 7, 10 and 14 day cruises. We have a 28 day one coming up and I don't think I want to bring my "normal" amount so I'm thinking I want to add another suitcase. Three months is a long time and I hope people fill us in on their packing lists.

I would pack for a week or 10 days and plan to wear everything multiple times. Sturdy stuff that is washable. The problem comes if you are going to be cruising in different climatic zones...Packing for winter and summer on the same cruise. There is a couple on the HAL board who do a world cruise seemingly every year, and they are blogging now. You might want to look there and maybe post a question...EM

3 suitcases for a couple at least, I am sure! I have seen where people take 4 or 5, but this is if they do not have to travel to the port of departure. Airplanes tend to cut you back on luggage, but you can pay extra on some.

My b2b totaled 31 days plus 5 in England for a total of 36 days. I took 2 suitcases and ended up not wearing some things. I did wash a couple of times and have no problem re-wearing stuff(especially black pants) if they are straightend and hung up between wearing. I packed too tight and when I bought a few things on my trip, I couldn't fit things in. I packed things in a box and mailed some stuff home. I will never pack things too tight again. Leave space for purchases!

What type of thing did you end up wearing, and what did you find you wore most? Jilli

There is a guy named Keith1010 who posts on the Crystal Cruises part of CC who is an expert on world cruises. Check out his threads and posts.

Keith 1010, Crystal Cruises. Great. Going in to look. (It isn't that I haven't been looking, but haven't yet seen anybody who has pinned it down. I'm sure I'm not the only one.) Jilli

I would pack as if one would be doing a 14 day cruise with the idea that laundry would have to be done and that many items would be re-worn many times. The challenge I found was figuring out how much personal care items to bring. And, then packing them. I was fortunate in having luggage delivery to and from the port as part of my booking and that helped a great deal.

I don't think I'd pack too differently than for a 14 day cruise, which is our longest so far. Basically, pack for 7-10 days and plan on doing laundry or having it done.

For a 14 night cruise we normally take a 24" each and one small suitcase for misc. stuff, mostly shoes, plus small carryons for personal and valuable things.

Maybe on a world cruise I'd up that to 2 suitcases each for more variety, especially if there were large climate differences. But I'd still plan on wearing most things multiple times and planning colors that work together.

I think the hardest part would be bringing enough toiletries and the right amount of whatever medications are needed. Misc. items do add up!
