Smoking question

Grow up how? That's a biological fact, my friend.

You are what we call a "flamer". You don't have to live with her so why do you have to submit your nasty comments? If you don't smoke, which I'm assuming you don't, keep your opinions to yourself. There is NOTHING positive about your post. Hence, " GROW UP ":D

I am not getting into this fun debate that happns evey week or so but I do want to state something from MY POINT of view.

Smoke, don't smoke,,you know the ramifications,,it's printed on the box. I quit 16 years ago.

But yes,,we can smell smoke and I don't know if it is a biological fact, a fake fact, a fact someone made up,mass hysteria,,,,but for ME and MY wife,,we can smell it whe we are near someone smoking (even in a car in fornt of us). I know may smokers think we are making this up but we really are not. I was walking my dog at our park this morning and there are too small fishing ponds (stocked by the city) and I could smell a guy smoking about 40 feet from me. We really can smell it.

I will leave the rest of you to debate where and when it should be done,,my point is just we non-smokers and ex-smokers really are not making this up.

PS: it doesn't bother me one way or the other.

My post was a response to Texaribbean Chick who posted that "My DH is NOT a smoker and he is always amazed at the "complaining" because of smoking neighbors (especially on this board) because he says that you cannot even smell it."

Sorry if you felt "flamed", but that was not my intention. My intention was to explain why her husband can't smell the cigarrettes. I've been there, done that, got the t-shirt. I LIVED it...

She said that you can't smell it, and I'm not the only one that will disagree with that statement. I feel that my response was warranted...

I think that is my favorite Saturday popcorn night line to date! REALLY??

That's probably because your DH is used to the smell of cigarettes since he has to smell it on your clothes, your breath, your body, and your surroundings on a daily basis. His nose is probably numb to the smell of cigarettes by now...

It's like people that dont wear deodorant or wear too much perfume: They are the only ones that can't tell how much they stink.

What a cruel and unnecessary comment:(

Seriously,,we can. Not a moving car but if we are stopped at a light and the people in the car in front of us are smoking with thier windows down,,many times we can. Obviously our windows are down or we are using the air and not on recycle. But flying down the freeway (or interstate) all you can whif is good old LA smog and diesel exhuast.

I can't beleive we are alone in this. Like I meant to say though,,as ex-smokers the smell from "live" smoke doesn't bother us at all,,like if we were on a balcony or even a casino. What does give me a major headache is the stale leftover smoke like in a smoking room in a hotel,,that is bad for ME. Leftover smell like in a casino,,in an open area,,not at all. Just close din spaces. I got that smell once on a ship (I think the Zuiderdam) but that machine thingy they used worked perfectly.

Totally agree with you.

And I, too, have smelled cigarette smoke from the car ahead of me if we are at a stop light in the summer and I have the air conditioner running.

Yvonne I'm not picking on you, I just using your post as a response.

Why is it that no one ever complains about the car exhaust coming from the car in front of them, it's always the cigarette smoke that is so bothersome.

I mean if I'm sitting in traffic surrounded by running cars and trucks I would rather get a wiff from a cigg than to sit there and inhale all those exhaust fumes.

People have been smoking on a balcony since there was a balcony. How people can smell smoke in 30 MPH wind is amazing. Maybe if you are docked and your on the non wind side, then it could be. If the ship is moving we never smell anything and you could have a herd smoking next door. The last several years I have never seen so many people complain just about everything done on a cruise, why the H do they cruise just to complain about what others do.

No problem. :)

Actually, I didn't say smelling the cigarette smoke from the car in front of me bothered me. I was just agreeing with a previous poster than you can smell it, especially in the summer with the A/C running and they have their windows down.

The sad fact is that many of these smokers are paying for the balcony and under the current rules they are allowed to smoke there and they probably will. I know I can smell it and it does bother me. I don't pretend to be :allergic: ...I just don't like the nasty smell

It makes an inside or an oceanview a good deal for us non smokers however...also on the Fantasy class there are very few balconies so it should be easy to stay away from the smoke smell. Fantasy class ships had a lot of smokey hallways and smoke escaped from cabins cause of the underdoor "gap" that let the smoke escape

IF you smell smoke in hallways or coming from inside/oceanview cabins you should demand that they do something about it...the contract has a $250 fine to clean the cabins. I once had a cabin on Imagination (*oceanview) that reeked of smoke, they had to get the ozone cleaners in there and switch out all the soft goods (this was back when they were allowed to smoke in the cabins)

IF you spring for a spa balcony you should be fine

Over a year ago I "predicted" that Carnival would tighten up it's smoking rules...and they surely did <grin>....my next prediction is that within a couple years they will go the way of Celebrity and Princess and stop all balcony smoking and relegate smokers to casino, one inside bar and upper outside decks

the good news is that the 2.0 upgrades stopped smoking on the lido

all the piano bars are NON smoking now which means I can finally enjoy them

the newer ships like Dream, Magic, Breeze have even less places to smoke than the Conquest class

NO more cigar bars

and the Fantasy class has so few balconies that it is not very conductive to smokers

The times have changed...it is not going to go back to smoking...even Italian lines like MSC vastly restrict smoking. European countries that have high rates of smokers are mostly non smoking in bars, restaurants, public places now. MY "prediction" is that Carnival and other lines will continue to limit smoking areas more and more

Of course smokers will bring out the tired story of the non smoking Paradise....LOL>> my guess is that they won't repeat that....they will have smaller and more restrictive areas and options for those addicted to smoking to still get their fix

One sad thing is that they restrict those "e-cigs" to the smoking areas. IMHO Carnival should sell a safe (non exploding, non modified) ecig ON board and let the smokers puff on that anywhere except the dining areas.

I would rather have an ecig user next to me on a balcony than a regular smelly cigarette smoker.

I hear that Costa and Pulmanter are the most liberal about smoking so that is an option for those who just can't cruise without a cig stuck in their mouth.

Wow Esty!!!! It's quite clear that you are NOT a smoker by your comments. And that is fine. But there will ALWAYS be smokers and they are still entitled to their rights. This is one of the reasons we booked a balcony on our upcoming cruise. If you know where the smoking areas are on a ship, and it sounds like you do, and you cannot STAND the smell, then avoid them. Enough said.

Glad I won't be on the same cruise you're booked on. Heavens forbid that I end up in the cabin next to your balcony. I would need to jump off the ship to avoid your "smoking area" because something tells me you're the kind of cruiser that has ZERO consideration for your next door neighbors.

You sound like one of those "It's MY vacation and I do whatever the @#$% I want. To H#$% with everyone else" kind of cruisers!

Why bother going then, just to "jump off" the ship, if she doesn't end up beside you chances are good another smoker will. JUMP JUMP away!

Oh and BTW something tells me you're the kind of cruiser that has ZERO consideration for your next door neighbors. It's my way or I Jump!

Lol!!!! By the way, I am VERY considerate of the non smokers around me. I hope Margey isn't on too high of a deck. :D

thank you! Guess we will just wait and see if we are even near any smokers. :)

We are smokers, but do not mind the question. We do try to see if our neighbors smoke. If they don't, we smoke at the rail and blow it out to sea. Luckily there were smokers on both sides of us last cruise. I wish they would do something like having only certain decks or sides be smoking. This would make it easier for the smokers too, not having to worry whether we are offending our neighbors.

Jesus Joseph and Mary and for the love of God, go on a non smoking cruise! They are out there. Seek and you shall find. In the mean time...smoking cigarettes is not illegal. Just sayin.

Bring it on!!!:D:D

This battle always amazes me. It is the same people who complain every time. It doesn't matter whether the post starts out pro or con smoking.

To the OP, sorry about the bad vibes. I understand your problem, and am not offended by your question. I am however offended by those who wish to degrade all smokers as smelly stinky people.

I read so many posts about smoking on the balcony before my cruise on the Dream last year. After reading about others' balcony experiences being ruined by smoking neighbours, I was so upset when I first opened the door to our cove balcony and I got a huge whiff of smoke.

However, once we got moving, I barely noticed the smoke at all. It certainly didn't ruin our balcony experience.
