The "MUST" pack on a cruise

Recommended Posts

Wooden clothes pins: keeps wet swimsuits secured to the clothesline in the bathroom, weighs down the bottom of the shower curtain so you don't get too molested, keeps open bags and packets closed, and is great for securing a note and tip someplace where the cabin steward can see it. Also makes an adequate binder clip for various papers (Fun Times, maps, shopping tips, coupons, etc.)

2-3 extra swim suits: Suits don't dry very quickly in the cabin, and I can't stand putting on a cold wet swim suit.

Too molested??? :confused::eek:

Yes, soap and shampoo is provided in the showers in a canister that's attached to the wall. Its in liquid form and refilled everyday when the stewards service your cabins. I'm not picky on soap or shampoo, but some are and find that the shampoo is not all that. So you may want to bring your own.

On all my cruises, there has only been 1 shampoo container and the other is body wash. Soap is provided as well, but in the sink for your hands.

I have read here and other threads where people bring snacks on the ship. I'm wondering with all the 24/7 food on the ship, why do you need to bring snacks? I'm not trying to be a smartiepants, but, why??

Enjoy your cruise:cool:[/quote

My son has food allergies, so I like to bring snacks that I know are safe for him to eat... goldfish crackers, cheez-its, fun fruits, etc.

Only 2 things I make sure I have are my Sea-Bands and Bonine....I normally am okay, but there have been a couple of rocky nights that I actually woke up out of a dead sleep and had to put the bands on immediately and take a Bonine or I was going to be in trouble....so those 2 things are a must for me....don't leave on a cruise without em!!!!:D

  • baby powder to remove sand from hands and feet
  • water shoes
  • folder to bring home postcards, funtimes, etc.
  • binder clips for keeping towels on chairs and keeping curtains closed tight
  • Travel journal
  • New perfume (memories are triggered by fragranes, so I always buy a new perfume for vacations so that everytime I wear it, I remember the trip!)
  • corkscrew for wine
  • first aid – eye drops, Benadryl, aspirin, pepto, saline spray, Band-Aids, Neosporin, tums, nail clippers, nail file, ear drops, cortisone cream, insect repellent wipes, vitamins and aspirin
  • extra zip duffel type bag (I actually bought a great one on our first Carnival cruise) to bring home anything we buy

You definitely don't want to bring a pair of shoes for every outfit....but I was surprised once when I cruised and had only one pair of day/beach sandals that I'd worn almost daily back home with no problem....they rubbed a blister on me!! I couldn't believe it; they were not new shoes! I think your feet sometimes swell and shoes that fit at home suddenly don't. So pack a second pair and be safe.

And tell your husband I said so.

Great thread! I'm subscribing to review closer to our cruise.

just off the Victory and I saw some shipmates at one of the beaches eating fruit and other items they packed in tupperware that they filled at the buffet that morning...meanwhile we were sharing a $17.00 wrap:eek:

never thought of it but its light and you can put stuff inside of it, not a bad idea for next cruise!

I just had this thought last night. I would love to be able to keep some fresh fruit in our room to snack on throughout the day!

Britta water pitcher, or individual water bottles. If water safety/taste are desired, it saves packing a case of bottled water!

Love this idea! Does the water that is filtered by those Brita bottles taste as good as bottled spring water? That is what we use at home and my tastes have really adapted to it. Tap water just doesn't taste as good.

For me, I plan on bringing stuff due to dietary restrictions. As another poster mentioned, he enjoys things (such as candy bars) that he would have to buy in the on-board store at a hefty price.

We cruised out of Charleston Dec 30, 2011 and my power strip was confiscated :/

I had a letter that stated I would get it back the last night of the cruise. Needless to say, I never saw it again.

I pack mine in a carry-on with a copy of Carnival's policy and will ask the person confiscating to show me where my perfectly good new power strip is a hazard. I also take a 4" fan - can't sleep without it.

There really isn't much in the way of salty hand to mouth type snacks unless you want to get robbed in the ship's store for them. My vacation "treat" is Snyder's Honey Mustard Pretzel Bits - mmmmm

Are we allowed to bring the power strip? I heard diffrent answers in 2010 so I didn't bring one. I want to in jan if I am allowed. And what about fan?

See above

There is usually a door stop in the room that the steward uses - we use that for the balcony door.

My Kindle - as I will have one very soon according to my # 1 son!

We pack only in carry on but I always take ziplocs of all sizes and a variety of OTC meds.

I also take the little packets of Woolite for hand washing delicates & I always have "Tide to Go" pens!

For my family, my son is borderline ADHD, the medicine we are trying makes him not hungry, so getting him to eat is always hard. I do know that he wakes up very hungry, and has to eat NOW. So this cruise I am bringing him a couple bowls of cereal, the kind you just pull the lid off, that way, he can eat when he wakes up and we don't have to rush down to the dining room.

He also wakes up hungry sometimes, so I keep fruit cups and in our upstairs refrigerator at our house to keep handy for him.

This will be our first trip with him being on this low dosage medicine, so for us, its quicker? easier? not sure....than to have to run all over the ship trying to find something. Just happy he is not a picky eater!!!

Okay I would say nail polish remover (I paid a fortune for it on the ship), travel sewing kit, definitely power strip, your fav snacks, granola bars (I sometimes miss the sinple things) and....

Guys close your eyes for the rest of my post:cool:...

Tampons, etc. Let's just say cardboard applicators that had been in the island moist heat for God only knows how long. Just know that we Americans are blessed with such simple things as plastic applicators:eek:!

If it hasn't devastated them by now I doubt its gonna. I cannot really see how taking a ham sandwich and some chips is gonna devastate anything.

I would not like to eat a sandwich that has been in the nice hot caribbean sun for several hours (you shouldnt either)

we do reverse smuggle liquor :) though in sports bottles and make our own on the beach and save alot of money

Make sure shoes are "worn in" so you don't get sores.

Don't forget contacts case and liquid. Forgot my case and searched for something to use. Medical center didn't have a pill bottle! Finally found a case in the store where the liquor is sold on a rack with various odd items including pringles.

I take some little cheeses wrapped in red and caviar and crackers for a room snack. Goes well with the carry on champagne!

(Once I had a sore thumb and couldn't open the champagne. Asked the room steward and he was going to use a corkscrew! I showed him how to do it and he pointed it right in the face of the other steward! Quickly had him turn the bottle and he opened it no problem. Obviously that was his first time doing that.)

If you take wine that requires corkscrew, take one or you have to call room service.

I take a hole punch in my purse and as soon as I get my card punch a hole in it and put in on my lanyard that's around my neck. My son lost his card 3 times one day before we got lanyards. Luckily it was turned in each time.

you could be like us and book a lido cabin right by the action ,its alittle more money but we never are hungry.Foods(and drinks) about 50 yards away at all times :)

We bring an inexpensive Brita pitcher on every cruise and leave it at the end. My husband drinks about a gallon of water every day and we both can't stand the taste of cruise ship tap water. I like the Brita water!

My son has ADHD too, on meds.... He eats a good breakfast and dinner but NO appetite at lunch........

Anyway, reading your post I was thinking, why couldn't you order room service to be delivered first thing in the morning for him?

Not sure what's easier....... Or just take those small boxes of cereal back to your room from the buffet......
