cherylandtk Posted April 14, 2012 #8 Share Posted April 14, 2012 The usual pronunciation is lee-dough, and lid-o is pretty close to that. Although the proper English pronounce it lie-dough, just to mess with us. ;)

LandlockedCruiser01 Posted April 14, 2012 #13 Share Posted April 14, 2012 Lido is pronounced [LEE-doh], since the word has an Italian origin. It came from the name of a beach in Venice, then became a common noun. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lido.

Vitality08 Posted April 14, 2012 #17 Share Posted April 14, 2012 On my very first cruise, I had never heard the term Lido before. So once my family and I completed check in the lady said, "you can go have lunch on the Lido deck" but I thought she said the "little deck'. she was hispanic and I thought that was just her accent. So I said "the little deck?" and she says "no, the Lee-do deck"...so I pause and stare at her and say "the little deck?" She than had to write it on a piece of paper for me. My family and I laugh about that to this day.
