Question about onboard activities

Hi, My DW and I are taking our first cruise ever (19 May Westerdam to Alaska). We have seen a lot about the different onboard activities. We were wondering if there is anywhere that has a list of the costs for the activities? We are not looking for exact prices, just a ballpark estimate so we can plan ahead a bit.

A lot of the onboard activities are free - the ones that will cost are things like wine tasting, bingo, the special 12 person ship's tour some pilates or other such programmes.

 

Of course the spa carries a cost with it as well as the beauty salon.

 

Just trying to name a few - just a quick list - there are more and most are somewhat reasonable.

The cooking classes are $29 per person (about 12 to a class). You get to eat what you cook, with a glass of wine, and you can keep the apron.

 

The cooking demos are free.

 

Bingo does cost. Someone will post with up to date costs but when I last cruised the cost was around $25 for three cards/four games.

 

I don't know how much the other items that Kazu mentioned cost except the Behind the Scenes tour of the ship. That is $150 per person. I looked at it as a similar cost to a shore excursion although it was much more informative and enjoyable than some shore excursions I've been on!!

Most on board activities are free for passenger to enjoy. If you do cooking classes, bingo, tour of the ship are things you would have to pay for.

There is also the Ship's tour -- usually last sea day -- $150 per person - you get a tour of the engine room, bridge and lots of other places.

There is the regular Navigator's wine tasting for $15 and then there is the premium wine tasting that is $35 per person.

Some ships have a craft activity where you have to pay for the crafts - varies by ship.

On our last cruise the Bingo cards were $30 for a set of 3.

There are mixology classes -- $12 per session.

Most ships now have a pre-dinner sample wine tasting with an appetizer of the day -- $5 -- not held every day.

Digital classes are free.

Art auctions are free.

Also four o'clock tea (free) is usually good especially the Indonesian one. Read your daily Explorer so you can plan your day.

You should also book the Pinnacle grill one night 25 per person amd the Cannelto resturant (free)

Have they changed the time in the last 2 months?

There are a lot of activities differnt games at the pool, like previous poster we like Trivia and normally play in twice a day, can win travel mugs, travel alarm clocks, bottle of champane, little things with the HAL logo. Our big cost is booze and the casino.

 

We also like to play Trivia.

But weren't happy with the times on our last cruise. One was at 3 or 4. The other one was at 6:30!!! Dinner time.

Why would the CD ever think to schedule trivia at 6:30? We love to play trivia. It is a fun way to meet people, too.

 

On our last HAL cruise, trivia was in the late morning on sea days and in the late afternoon on port days—but never at 6:30. Sometimes there would also be an express trivia either between the evening shows or after the late show.

 

We have found that CC is a fine place to put together a trivia team, even before sailing.

 

We met our trivia partners for our last cruise on cruise critic.

On our cruises when it was held at 6:30 -- there were only 2 teams playing -- each had 4 players.

Not a good time for it.

Since HAL started this new format -- the regular trivia in the afternoon contains all types of questions.

The held during the dining time -- one night all the questions may be about music -- another night all questions may be about movies -- another night TV shows, etc.

Because they are short in staff compared to years ago -- and they try to schedule things between their dining times.

The CD is basically eating on the fly now-a-days.
