LIV 2 CRUISE Posted May 15, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 15, 2012 Hardly any of my 13-year-old grandson's shorts (basketball-style) have pockets. Assume a landyard for his S&S card is the way to go when he is at Circle C and not with me. BUT I bet any money he will think this is geeky. Any thoughts/suggestions??? Onessa Posted May 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 15, 2012 Other kids will likely have them. Other options would be one of those phone cord kind of wrist straps with a clip or the ultimate "I am a geek" retractable cord clippy thing that he can clip to his waistband (and I can say it is geeky because I wear one with my badge at work every day :)) Tell him if it would help you would spring for one with whatever cool design he wants (but be certain it has a "quick release" feature so it can't get caught up). junglejane Posted May 15, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 15, 2012 My DD refused to wear a lanyard once she hit her teens. She either keeps her seapass in her pocket, if she has one, or carries it on a lanyard but won't wear it around her neck. It gets lost at least once per cruise. BlondeKajun Posted May 15, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 15, 2012 I bring my kids/teens cruisin all the time and they never complain about wearing them. I bought them some really cool ones on ebay, we reuse them each cruise.
reallyitsmema Posted May 15, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 15, 2012 Have him wear a string lanyard under his shirt, not the thick lanyards that are more common. Other option is most gym type shorts have a drawstring, he can tie a lanyard to the drawstring or just use the drawstring to hold the card. Other option my son used was his sock or sneaker if he was playing basketball. A string lanyard works well with shorts that have beltloops too. My son would loop the laynyard through a belt loop and then stick the card in his pocket. Less chance of losing card it it is tied to you.;)
cb at sea Posted May 16, 2012 #6 Share Posted May 16, 2012 Some sports shorts have inside pockets...that would work. Kids who will be going places on their own will need to have their key/card with them. Maybe, he could stick it in his shoe! Or, get him some shorts with pockets! Uncle Fester Posted May 18, 2012 #9 Share Posted May 18, 2012 Give our kids the option of a lanyard or a fanny-pack. For some reason, they always choose the lanyard.
wilson4 Posted May 18, 2012 #10 Share Posted May 18, 2012 My DD wears multiple lanyards of all different colours and patterns as a sort of fashion statement!!!

Rudyard Posted May 20, 2012 #12 Share Posted May 20, 2012 When my DS was that age I would get him a lanyard from his favorite sports team. I was going to post a similar suggestion. If you go to the website for his favorite teams, there will usually be a section offering team merchandise and most teams usually offer a lanyard for sale. Sometimes it comes with a clear plastic pocket for holding tickets to the game.
onthelake Posted May 21, 2012 #13 Share Posted May 21, 2012 With my DS it was and is a Ferrari lanyard. Most teens have some interest you can use to find a suitable/usable lanyard.
dsrdsrdsr Posted May 22, 2012 #14 Share Posted May 22, 2012 Get him a lanyard and let him choose whether to use it. If he loses his key, there's few better places for him to find himself locked out - it's inconvenient but no worse. (That's assuming the cabin key doesn't have the cabin number on it, of course. You don't want to make it open house for all comers.)
familycruzinnewbie Posted May 23, 2012 #15 Share Posted May 23, 2012 I got the free lanyard thing (plastic spiral material on Carnival) from the casino for me but then gave it to DD as she preferred it to the one I had brought for her.

What we have done is take the coil off and just use the hook & ring. Seen many waiters onboard do the same thing.
newbiecruiser09 Posted May 25, 2012 #17 Share Posted May 25, 2012 Many kids around here use lanyards for keys and sports passes. Don't know if DS will want to use one on next cruise (did not last time) but if not, sticking the card in his socks was always an option
