Thanks. I took so many sunset pictures that cruise that I got burned out and thought "Man, it's a sunset, how many pictures could I possibly need and they are all going to look alike." After I got home, I found that I liked several of them, they didn't all look alike and I should probably take more while cruising. :D

Are you talking about the 2 colored circles? That is the lens flare caused by the sun reflecting off parts of your camera. It usually happens when shooting toward the sun. Sometimes moving slightly will get rid of it.

I recognize the original post was for photos, but I have a time lapse video made on our last Alaska cruise which includes a great sunset:

 

It started as one image per minute, then crunched down (I think) to 2 frames per second. We're underway at 0:17, then at 0:30 we turn back for an ill passenger who is taken off the ship by the boat that appears at 0:38. Sunset begins at 0:42 and finishes around 0:51, and the orange glow is almost completely gone by 1:05. The movie continues into the night (perhaps 3am) through Seymour Narrows, though I can't really pinpoint where we actually pass through the narrows.
