gcvt Posted May 20, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 20, 2012 I took a bunch of photos of Golden exiting dry dock today and decided to make a little time lapse movie. Sorry...no tripod so it's a tad shaky. It was really fun to watch her pick up all of her life boats.

philamike Posted May 20, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 20, 2012 Neat video! I was sightseeing in San Francisco today and was on a ferry when I spotted her -- I didn't know about her dry dock, and was surprised to see a cruise ship on the SOUTH side of the Bay Bridge, because I know that the cruise port is on the north side. Here's a pic that I took from the ferry: A little later, I was on a cable car and spotted her docked at the port, but I wasn't fast enough with my camera... - Mike :-)

Are you sticking around tomorrow? Tomorrow the Golden sails at 3:00 and then the USS Iowa will be escorted out under the Golden Gate around 3:30 or 4:00. Big day on the Bay! Oh, and then the solar eclipse from about 5:15-7:15.

gcvt Posted May 20, 2012 Author #8 Share Posted May 20, 2012 gcvt,Thank you for sharing your great video. LOL, you're too kind - it's more of a hacked together first attempt at a time lapse video at best ;) I realized there was no easy, or interesting, way to post 105 photos of her so I tried the time lapse thing. That all took place over the course of about 5 hours. I don't know how to use the auto time lapse feature on the GF's fancy camera and didn't have a tripod anyway, so I just snapped a pic every now and then as I was messing around in our vegetable garden and playing with the dog. It was a gorgeous day outside! She really seemed to spin around a lot. I'd love to know what they were doing out there all day aside from picking up all the life boats. They spent about four hours very close to the dry dock and then moved further across the bay, which is when Mike snapped that great photo. Can't wait to watch her and the USS Iowa sail tomorrow! Once Upon A Time Posted May 20, 2012 #10 Share Posted May 20, 2012 What did they do to her during this dry dock? I'd heard it was just a quick check up with some cosmetic repairs.. Does anyone have specifics?

Probably testing her thrusters and other systems that had been worked on during the drydock. What did they do to her during this dry dock? It was my understanding that they might be adding Alfredos to her Piazza and would love to know if that actually happened. Hopefully someone who is on the Coastal cruise will report in! Major changes such as this take more time than this drydock had.

RickEk Posted May 20, 2012 #16 Share Posted May 20, 2012 Is there a webcam to watch Golden and Iowa depart? Here's a good one: I think you can see Golden Princess at the dock... http://www.webmarin.com/ And this one is supposed to be from onboard the Iowa, but it doesn't seem active yet... http://new.livestream.com/accounts/725962/events/884865
bdjam Posted May 20, 2012 #17 Share Posted May 20, 2012 Thanks for all the great pics - a friend was down on the waterfront last night and texted me excitedly because he couldn't figure out why there weren't any people on board!

gcvt Posted May 21, 2012 Author #24 Share Posted May 21, 2012 Bummer indeed. I imagine there were quite a few disappointed weekend warriors. :( I can tell you that the beach we were on saw quite a few veterans...both American and Japanese...waiting to see the Iowa. Most were easily identifiable by their hats or shirts. The winds kicked up considerably around 5:30 and we were the last ones left on the beach by then :(
